  1. Thanks for that Everfresh I will download and give that a look 🙂 My method was key the object in place, then constrain it to the hand and move the hand. Place the object in hand in a different location and key it's position then set the constraint to 0%. Usually I used to get jumps. Anyway enough of that since I am now hogging this thread 😛
  2. This was shown to me five years ago so my memory was vague when writing this post and I thought it was a new tool 🙂 I don't think I ever tried Orestis workflow it was a bit fiddly…
  3. Here is the parent thing I was talking about, it appeared in R18:
  4. Well they did bring out that parent constraint tool which I have never used cos I cannot find it, but I still find the parent constraint problematic. Try getting a character to pick an item up and then put it down somewhere else... It will jump all over the place. I tend to go back to the old fashioned method of just parenting two separate items and just turning the visibility on and off.
  5. I would like them to overhaul the Xrefs and Parent Constraints since they never work properly. Been waiting for them to fix this for years and I know I am not the only one wanting this 🙂
  6. Well looking at your specs if you want to use something like Redshift or Octane (you'll probably be better off with Red since it can be subscribed to with C4D) you will need either one very expensive GPU like the RTX 3000 series (if you can get one) or two cheaper RTX 2000 series ones, but on your budget that like like a no. You can always buy a couple of used GPUs like I did on eBay, or maybe you could always get a new system and pay for it in installments? Failing that just use what you have to learn what you can and when in a better position get a better system, it will be a fun journey for you 🙂
  7. Tell us the specs for you current workstation and I am sure we will help you upgrade your current system to make it more productive. I always find reading CG Director helps a lot for this sort of stuff: https://www.cgdirector.com/ BTW making a feature length film will take you a long time on your own. I made a four minute short about then years ago and it took me months...
  8. I used PageMaker first - didn't like that much then switched to Quark which was way better. The InDesign came along and I switched to that although I very much preferred the keyboard shortcuts in Quark. Then I dropped working in print since I went multimedia and then 3D and I have tried all the main 3D apps and still prefer C4D. Saying that I haven't tried Blender yet and after all the crashing I encountered in R23 I am tempted but I will give S24 a try first! Don't think I will ever use an iMac or a MacPro as my main workstation anymore though until GPU rendering doesn't require bloody great GPUs 🙂
  9. I don't think humans will really take any notice of what they are doing until they are so upto their eyeballs in shit that they cannot find anywhere else to go since there too much shit everywhere 🙂 There's making a living and making a fortune and would you really want to be worth billions? Mind you if I had billions I would start cleaning up the oceans 🙂 Anyway this might be going a little off track…
  10. Actually I have just thought (it happens)… When Tim Cook was spouting off about how Apple would be so carbon free I am not sure how he can justify that. If you think picking up a book or a magazine uses no electricity or drawing on a piece of paper who can you then justify using an iPhone or Tablet to do the same thing which uses energy? If we all uses so many electronic devices then think of how much more energy we are using than say back in the 1980s or 1990s?
  11. Bloody ell that is going back a bit LOL! I remember the Ventura Publisher - never used it though. I was stuck with a PC for a couple of years and I literally had to take it to the image/typesetting bureau everytime I wanted to get some film run out for the printers. I had no problems with the fonts on the Mac when I got one cos I bought them and never touched the buggered up ones that all the tinkerers/cowboys used to bandy around. Buggered up postscript fonts where rife in those days!
  12. I agree on the Apple repairs and upgrade options. I upgraded my old iMac just before Xmas to the latest OS and it broke - reverting back to my old internal drive rather than the external SSD. It wiped the external SSD drive! It had never done this before and it was something to do with EFI or whatever it is. After I had recovered from the shock I bought another SSD drive and restored my system to that and everything was back to normal. But I will not do anymore updates since I am sure it will wreck everything again. Basically it looks like Apple don't like people using external SSD drives on their old iMacs and want you to buy new - which is underhand I think. It's not like Apple are struggling to make money is it?
  13. Whenever I look at Apple stuff I don't think content creation like film, VFX or 3D anymore rather social media and how many photos and family videos can I make? I have always liked Apple and once upon a time I think their higher prices warranted the kit but that is going back to the old days of DTP (Desktop Publishing) where it ruled! I still have an iMac which I use for my music and guess what - family photos and videos! I don't use it in a professional capacity like I once did helping out with renders like I once did. I will probably buy one of the new iMacs since mine is now vintage 2014 so getting on a bit so I will be looking forwards to seeing if it can help with production pipeline in terms of rendering using Redshift. And I will continue to use it for music, family photos and videos 🙂 One thing I think that is missing from the new iMacs is an extended Apple Keyboard - that is a real bummer to me!
  14. I am not sure if this is the right place or not so forgive me if I have it wrong! wasn't sure whether to put it under animation... Just wondered if anyone else has this problem, when I load scene files which have several characters rigged using the built in character rigging tools they seem to take ages to load whereas other project I have that are large and don't have characters don't... Is it just me or is the nature of characters in C4D?
  15. Shame the name had to change… There was something nice about C4D Cafe. Core 4D sounds so sort of marketing-orientated and almost aggressive, or perhaps I am just getting old 🙂
  16. Ohhh! Bit of character work creeping in their too! Was that mocap or did you hand animate it?
  17. Love those Christmas flicks Cerbera 🙂 Make me wanna do some myself but its a bit late now 😛
  18. It's getting better with each pass 🙂 The bit I am not sure about is the leaves on the tree in the foreground, they all look a bit symetrical/cloney? Did you make the tree or was it one from a library like Forester?
  19. Thanks for the replies chaps - much apprecaited. That seam BTW, if it's the one I think you mean, isn't a seam but the overhang of the river bank. Might need to add a bit more grass on the edge to make it more apparent. Plus I don't want to tinker too much with the path since I don't want to go back and re-animate anything since I would then have to do all the cloth sims again and one thing I have learned from this project is cloth sims can be TIME CONSUMING 🙂 If I were to do this from scratch I would do some things quite differently but for now I might just add a displacement map. Anyhow I have done another update, Robin wasn't blinking since the pose morph was switched off and I have added wetness to the character's clothes and hair for the last shot. Robin & John Wet Bits
  20. Well here is the latest version with sound, a few splashes and the ending… Now I am looking at it I am wondering whether to add some 'God Ray' lighting through the trees... Perhaps a bird fluttering by? Robin & John Sound I think I might need to add a few more blinks… And John floating in the water…
  21. Looking good so far… There are bits I would take a look at like the chimney breast the edges seem too sharp. Also the wood panels on the house could do with end planks lines if you know what I mean they all seem too long. Love the unevenness of the fence. I also think your corn on the cob looks a bit too even - could do with loosing the symmetry. But these are just my opinions looking forward to seeing your characters 🙂
  22. Well here is a blast from the past my first ever C4D project that I did with R5. A nuclear submarine launching it's missiles, the flick was rendered at 320x240! Looks so old now. BTW I hope I have improved since then 😄
  23. Blimey! You're making me feel old… I remember first buying it in 1999 with R5 was it? Used it mainly for product visuals and was impressed by the speedy render times. Has changed somewhat since those heady days. Let's hope C4D goes from strength to strength 🙂
  24. Think I have finally managed to sort the cloth out after reading the manual, watching some tuts and tinkering - it took a while! So I finally have the cloth looking correct and the toadstools are dotty 🙂 Next will be perfecting the rendering which will be a lot easier - I hope… Robin & John
  25. Well I have asked around and it appears that this is a bug! If you close the app and relaunch it that will fix it or if you change the simulation quality from Complete to Normal that too will fix it. I am using MD 8.5 but this is also in MD 9.5. Hopefully it will be fixed in MD 10. Hope this helps anyone else out there using MD with C4D 🙂
