980ti's work as far as i know. they need to be flashed or something first though. sorry, meant new openCL version. I don't know the technical details, but i do know that often to get stuff working you need recent drivers. But maybe you'll be lucky. as i said, wait and see :)

it was somewhere in the news.. though cant find it anywhere. Basically it happened because there are no more apple computers which use nvidia cards.. its why people cant use 1080's in their older mac pro's.

Im guessing by the time it gets released drivers will have come a long way. maybe even a new cuda version.. and since nvidia isnt making drivers for macOS anymore.. there is a chance that it wont work for you for that reason. But only time will tell. Maybe Apple and Nvidia will make up by then.. I remember reading something about them working together again.

yup, you worried for nothing :) MAXON just needs to "Refine" their marketing department, it often misses the mark :) ( sometimes i think the people who write the copy don't actually use the software at all)

change the port? dunno... but on both machines.. i always plugged in values manually.. don't need any apple software on my machine... its evil... at one point it was relentlessly pinging my phone when it was on wifi, killing its battery.

i think pro-render will take atleast 3 releases to catch up to cycles4d..

windows come with remote desktop, you set that up once, and they you can just log in to it. render farm software should start up automatically, there is a "Startup" folder in windows, you can just throw shortcuts of things you want to open on boot into there. the problem with microsofts remote desktop software, is it doesn't activate any dedicated video cards, it has its own drivers, so openGL/CUDA don't work. For stuff like that you can use "Team viewer" free software, or a VNC client/server deal.

yeah, im still thrilled for cycles. mostly because it will work with r17, and doesn't require me to update to newer untested releases yet. R18 is still discovering some pretty fatal bugs. also it will update independantly of c4d core, which is great.

openVDB is useful even for meshing liquids as far as i know. and +1 pretty sure his plugin will do the rendering. openVDB is just there so that the stuff you simulate can easily be rendered in other renderers.

he's comparing r13 to r18... i think embree tech was introduced between then and now... and probably lots of other optimizations. I know r15 reduced preparing times for heaving mograph scenes a lot.
