  1. Thanks Bob, it was little depressing this summer, got a lot of rejections and this was the last place on the list I sent it to so I was really happy they chose it!
  2. Thank you, i did preproduction for a while and then about 9 months to get it animated. I spent a few days going over the text with the voice actor, usually its just a couple gours but he was really into this project.
  3. My film the Raven was selected for the Sunrise film festival in Nova Scotia! I have no illusions that it will win anything but being shown is a big deal for me.
  4. Almost 2 ½ minuted done so far and this is the final; render of test I showed here earlier. I have some re-rigging to do and re-weighting for the more involved scenes with the character, but nothing too serious.
  5. Thanks for telling us about your experience.I am planning to start learning Blender again after the new year. I have three C4D projects going now but I need to think of a simple Blender project to get me motivated. The C4D viewport slowdown while animating characters has been a big limitation for me and a source of frustration.
  6. I plan to put a big effort into learning Blender this winter. I am on V19 and will stay here until C4D becomes a better product for me again or until I switch to Blender completely. I was very excited about the ability to turn tri's to quads in this new version. Evee is really something, one big problem C4D has in my workflow is that I have to turn off so many things to animate more than 2 characters in the viewport efficiently and Blender might not have that problem. I'll find out this winter.
  7. First character's base model and rig is ready. He will have several changes of clothes and age a little, mostly he will be in cycling gear that I will have to make next. Using the surface deformer to add clothes to the base, rigged model and to seems to be working out. I am sure once I start animation I'll find a million more faults, but that's how it goes! I
  8. Working on the two characters now. The long haired guy works more for me the goatee guy but he os not the worst I have ever done. I haven't started rigging yet but I should soon to keep this thing moving along. Using exiting generic models and modifying them as always but going for a less cartoon look than usual but not too real. The got guy needs to go through a coupe changes but the long haired guy goes through a dramatic one as the film progresses and that and how to change the clothing will have to be worked out. I went over the script yet another time and cut a scene out that seemed superfluous for a film that should be more simple.
  9. Another test animation in a new set. Again. almost but not quite a real place. The real place is on West Newton Street in Boston where I saw the butterfly swarm with my friend. A little more info at my blog.
  10. Update the Montreal street. Made some needed changes visually but also for the render time from 3 minuted 11 seconds to 4 seconds a frame, a HUGE improvement. The tricks Used for this won't work for many of the other shots but I have to save on render time where I can! more info at my blog
  11. Another set, pretty much the interior of my home studio... more or less. I have a larger desk with two monitors. Two more exteriors to go, maybe three. Well, probably three.
  12. I had not thought of that route. If I add them later it make rendering the shot go much faster which is where I am leaning towards now. I have a feeling much of this will change when I get to the actual animating it part!
  13. It took me longer than it should have to figure this out. Lots of work lately getting in the way of getting my own projects done! I will need 100s of butterflies in two shots so my plan is to mix and max 5 versions of the flocking with various numbers of butterflies and various patterns on plane since most of them will be in the middle to background.
  14. Another scene almost done. This one is taking a little longer to render than I would like so I'll have to work on that. It need a few more details as well.
  15. Believe it or not, I do try and simply my projects, doesn't seem to work out the way in the end! Not sure how the actual two characters will work out, it's my weakest point but I will do my best. Only 5 more sets to make....
  16. Despite a summer of things getting in my way of doing 3D work, I have been making some progress on 2 new projects. One is an adaption of Poe's The Cask of Amontillado - typical stuff for me and this very personal project. Based on personal experiences, I am hoping to break through some of the issues I found with previous projects. The script is a page long yet there will be 15 or so locations. Luckily there are only two characters, but they will have to change fairly dramatically over the course of the animation. More description os on my blog. http://behemothmedia.blogspot.com Some external sets.
  17. My one beef with xparticles is the explosia tags etc. I like how they work with everything it's the rendering part. I end u using tubulence fd for all my smoke and fire as it redners super fast and anyting with explosia takes so long i give up on it!
  18. They also released a video on presets and some other stuff last week. I did the maintenence agreement, against my better judgement, I would rather just do upgrades when i need them but at least it looks like I'll be getting some thing interesting for the money.
  19. Great job! This show has amazing affects. My spouse is not a sci-fi fan at all but saw teh start of one episode and just said... "this is TV show? How can it look so good?" Gettign all the detail in your model can not have been easy.
  20. C4D does have Pyrocluster, which works off of thinking particles. So you can do something of what you want with it. I remmeber when it came out it seemed pretty amazing but it's prtty awful expecially compared to the plugins we have now.
  21. good job! You really had to plan to keep the eyes from passin in front of background objects I bet!
  22. A lot of this poem is more stylized speech or usng symbolic or somewhat obscure words for effect. I dont think many people used quaf instead of the word drink and nepenthe was just as obsure i think. It is a poem and not a story so he has more leeway with language i think. I read a lot of stuff from the early 1700s on so its more familiar sounding to me i bet. Thanks again for the kind words. I was pretty aprehensive about doing such a well known and well loved piece. Keeping it intestesting in such a limited setting was a big challenge.
