  1. I have done that and it involves very different skills. I think I learned and realized some things about movement and preparing to animate I sort of skip over when work exclusively in 3D. I am a big promoter of improving drawing skills as I think it helps in so many areas. 2D animation had a feel to it I thought it was important to be more familiar with. You realize very quickly how hard it is to make movement when in 3D it's pretty easy! I am sort of fascinated with merging the two these days.
  2. Another test/tryout using OpenToonz again but with a little better understanding on how it works. I did sneak in some C4D to test the toy falling before hand drawing it. If anyone is interested in more information: My blog post on it
  3. Unless there are more options like more ram and storage, I won’t even think about getting a new iMac. I am sure when the larger models come out I will be more tempted. I am tempted by the new iPad Pro, I have a 2015 pro and really love it. With the m1 processor, I am sure it could run c4d or something if they weren’t in iOS which is limiting. Since we are all talking about the old days.... I used Pagestream I’m my Amiga before switching to pacemaker and Quark on a Mac... I never liked pagemaker and switched to Indesign at v2. I have a client using a 12 year old version of quark and hate it even more. I tested a newer version in 2018 and it was only slightly better so I am pretty much all affinity publisher these days which is a joy to work with for me.
  4. I have to say the first series surprised me with his varied it was and the animations were amazing even though some of them were a little violent for my taste. Cruelty has always and still does sell for reasons in our nature but it is not something I find entertaining as a rule. So I am hoping for maybe something a little lighter overall this time.
  5. Thanks Igor, I would like nothing better than to just focus on my projects without interruptions and distractions for once!
  6. I am working that out! I think I will do another short animation with this character. I might try it in Adobe Animate or continue in Open Toons... I cannot seem to decide. I did a little storyboard this week. It's been hard to get anything done lately. It's been one of those times when if I accomplish one thing, 6 more things need to be done afterwards and I am waiting for a surgery which sort of kills my concentration, to be honest. Once the second 2D animation is done I hope I know enough to go into my next 3D project which will have 2D elements in it.
  7. My first 2D animation since I was a teenager which was decade ago. Blog post describing it and showing the video. Used Open Toonz which was pretty good despite being somewhat buggy. I am not a cartoonist so don't expect a masterpiece! I am thinking of mixing 2 and 3D in my next projects so this was eye opening and , I hope, I good starting point.
  8. Hrvoje has been fantastic and Igor is a worthy successor! I can't imagine the work that goes into to keeping this going so well.
  9. I was heartbroken when I heard this a couple days ago. Like you I was buying issues from the start and was buying the digital ones the last few years. The internet can be great but a thoughtful well put together article is hard to beat and this magazine was full of them, every issue for over 40 years. I am going to foolishly hope there is a way for them to return should things get better in year or so. I will be first in line to buy a new issue if that ever happens!
  10. Thanks Igor! I am getting more response to this one than previous ones. Mostly because the scare part seems to have really scared a few people so that is very satisfying.
  11. Finished? This was a short one and took place in one location so it wasn't as grand as my last animation. It's a little bloody so be sensitive to that. Had some fun with simulations and used the "Make Human"plugin for the heavy lifting with the characters as an experiment and they did work out enough for me to see using that application in other things. I have found I like less humanlike characters for my animations and I think I will go that route for future projects. Thanks to everyone who had feedback and advice and looked in on my progress. I forgot a link my blog explaining more about the project. Behemoth Blog
  12. Took me a few tries and techniques to figure this out. I ended up using the voronoi mograph fracture to give the impression the drawing vine was pushing soil out of it's way. I also have been finding some things with the characters generated from Make Human a little challenging when adding IK to the pre-rigged and weighted bones. FK seems to work better and using Cactus Dan's IK tools were a mess sadly as I really like rigging with them.
  13. One step forward, two steps back. This is a a montage of sorts of a series of photos being taken after the house has been abandoned for decades. I remembered how I always wanted to try the :Make Human: app for realism human characters and made the new character with that. That made the woman character at the start look far too cartoonish so I am making her in Make Human now. It's pretty easy to set up and exporting to FBX seems to work. The fingers are little funky and I end up repainting the cloths textures. The joints and weighting are pretty good but there is a lot of work setting up the IK and labelling everything to set up the visual selector for animation. Works for this but I don't think it would work for anything more stylized though I have not really done deep into it. The montage was made to be cut shorter in Final Cut Pro X after it was rendered, it seems better to have it too long than too short.
  14. I hand animate everything, I am flattered you think it was Moccap! I have a lot of work for the second half of this to get started in.
  15. The transition shot between past and present. I might add a title stating "50 years later" or something like that.
  16. They might not have any idea what you are talking about. I have found especially in graphic design that the marketing people had no idea there were different formats or insisted on a .psd without knowing that was photoshop. So it's possible they might just forget about the request rather than admit they don't know something. A lot depends on how big the client is and who is asking!
  17. Apparently this last season of Star trek Discovery's post production was all done from home and it's very complicated effects laden show so it's possible. On much smaller scale, I did the second season fo of TV show's animation 6 years ago from my home studio and it went so much better than sitting in an office with people around me all day and then having to do most of the work at home with no distractions anyway. From my point of view there is no reason to do it any other way!
  18. It is not totally flat but I see what you mean, it’s close to how the land in front of my grandparents house was on cape cod Massachusetts. They did not have those stones around, though.😁
  19. I was finally able to get some work done on this. It's been really hard to work on 3D stuff. On the other hand I did draw and design a bunch of classic monster posters for some reason I cna't quite explain. LOL
  20. Bon Année! The cafe and everyone here is the main reason I've stuck with C4d over the years. Igor and the rest deserve our praise and thanks all year round!
  21. there's a lot to like about all your stuff but you REALLY push the boundaries in this short. You would never think this was 3D it looks like something you could only do by hand... in the 70s... on acid. :) beautiful work!
  22. This looks amazing, I only have v19 so I can’t use it but I bet we see some really nice stuff from people using this!
  23. Slight update to the logo. I think it does look better with the it have a closer connection to the house in the story.
  24. It's actually one tree from a series of tress I use for projects. I change the leaves around and play wth them for some variety, the background trees are just planes with images on them or this shot would never render.
