  1. I don't think America is the center of the universe. I have no issue with the metric system. I don't care what side of the road people drive on. I hate the school massacres and vote against gun culture in every election. I speak Japanese and my wife is Japanese. I only said what I said because someone said it was an American expression, which it isn't. Why are your panties all in a bunch about this? Hating much?
  2. Bad take. Bad models can't be textured and can't be deformed and rarely "look amazing" on close inspection.
  3. Well, the person should have said, "hold the period key down while click and dragging." "Full stop click and drag" would not make any sense to Americans. Yes,"full stop" is a dictation term meaning add a period here but it doesn't and could never mean the period key on a keyboard.
  4. That's awful but you have to at least give them credit for distilling crypto into three sentences. 😂
  5. Hey fellow old timers. First animation was with Strata 3D: If I remember correctly, it had fast and powerful render Booleans. So strange. I am also Infini-D old. It had sophisticated particles that rendered in nearly real time.
  6. My solution has been to just use my old copy of R20. It has everything I need for most of my work but I sometimes need r21 features and am looking to buy a used r21 perpetual license but can't find one anywhere.
  7. Make sure you are in points mode and have only the source cage selected in the Object Manager.
  8. The terrible thing is they are all terrible now because you can't own anything anymore. I bought a used version of C4D v5 for $500 used with no transfer fee years ago and still can probably run it if needed. I own it. Paying for stuff you don't own is nuts but everyone is just nihilistically assuming it must just be this way and going along. Google the Right to Repair movement. Even the makers of physical products now want to make you pay a subscription fee to use the thing you bought. It's obscene.
  9. Well it's rediculously overpriced to begin with.
  10. Doubling the cost without any notification is definitely not cool and that combined with the glitches and whatnot that we see frequently now doesn't seem to bode well for this site's future.
  11. This cannot be done with just any image. It only works using greyscale heightmaps such as these: https://www.pinterest.com/greglkunz/gray-height-maps/
  12. Haven't read the whole thread but thise are viens and viens are notoriously hard to do in Cinema because splines in Cinema and other 3d programs don't and can't branch, nor can they be swept. Fix those problems and it becomes easy. Short of that the old method was to simple model them by hand, branches and all.
  13. I have a lot of experience with this and I can report that you can backwards save everything as far back to R20 with no problems whatsoever. The only hitch is that, obviously, if you use a new feature or generator or field or whatever in a later version that isn't available in the older version it won't work in the older version.
  14. Are they selling subscriptions or perpetual licenses? Dongle or password protected? If they are selling perpetual licenses then that would be a clear advantage over Cinema and other subscription-only software. Cinema 4D died for me when it went subscription only. Fortunately I own an R20 license and am also looking to purchase an R21 license but I can't find one. I think Maxon was somehow able to effectively scrub the internet of any available R21 licenses.
  15. First I ever heard of that, but I do remember when R6 came out and that that jump from R5 to R6 was the biggest single jump I've ever seen a piece of software take. Those were the days.
  16. AI is not sentient, but that doesn't mean it can't code. My main point however was this: What is the point of trying to revive a 30 year old code base in these uncertain times? The brand and customer following is worth something for sure but that's all. IBM could replace 7,800 jobs with artificial intelligence, CEO says https://sourceai.dev/
  17. People are already talking about when AI will be able to make programs better than humans, so who in this crazy new world is going to fund a revival of an ancient codebase which first has to be thoroughly understood before it can then be painstakingly rewritten instead of just starting from scratch?
  18. Also means they don't have any team members yet. Despite that we should see something soon. 🙄
  19. This reminds me of that feeling you get when you have an hour long meeting with a client explaining in meticulous detail why the thing they want to do won't work how they think it will and how it might be done instead and they then send a follow-up email saying nevermind all that we just talked about and just do it the way they wanted originally (the way that can't work).
  20. They haven't even put a team of developers together or know the makeup of that team yet. This sounds like a total pipedream to me. As others have said it would probably be easier to build a completely new system from scratch than resurrect an aged codebase.
  21. Hey. I have an old project I am trying to finish and it needs R21 and I am wondering if you still have it for sale. If so I am interested. Thanks. Michael
  22. Come to think of it I too briefly also owned Poser, Hash Animation Master and Lightwave. I don't know why I bought Lightwave. Had the dongle hang around my computer drawer for years but never even got around to installing it as far as I remember.
  23. I don't doubt your experience with it being very useful in Maya, but I am curious how you use this exactly and what are some of the things or actions that you find yourself needing to repeat over and over again?
  24. And there is one more: Toggle Last Two Tools does what it says and can be found in the Command Manager and placed in layout, though it has no icon assigned to it unfortunately.
