Hey guys, I am really struggling understanding some aspects of Redshift in Cinema 4D and want to use this thread to explore them. To begin with, what is the difference between a Redshift Camera and a standard camera? Doesn't one need to always use a Redshift camera when rendering in Redshift? If so, why does the interface give me the option to create a standard camera, but not a Redshift camera?

I think it is important to note that "Make Editable" and "Current State to Object" produce different point counts, and that "Current State to Object will create more points depending on the spline's Intermediate Points setting. It's actually a bit of mess to get a copy of a deformed spline, as you have to disable interactive points before converting, and then covert the points back to Bezier. It would be a mini tutorial to describe it fully.

No one has mentioned Bandzip, which is what I am currently using. It was free, there are no ads that I have seen, and it just works. Almost makes me wonder what must be wrong with it that I don't know about.

Maxon's Spring 2022 Launch Event | Live Stream | S26 Announcement

I can only imagine, but from the sound of it I think it's sort of the same with any 3D project as well. It very often seems less productive to try to fix someone else's creation than to just start from scratch. -
I would rate Korean drama "My Mister" as one of the best or maybe even the best thing I've seen in all my long years. I'll check out Hellbound. Thanks for the tip.

Thread for reporting/resolving issues with C4D S26
MJV replied to HappyPolygon's topic in Discussions
Exact same thing happened to me. I have been wondering where it was but hadn't gotten around to trying to find out what happened to it yet. I'll try later to rebuild it and see if I get the same results as you. -

Yes a bit disappointing to see little progress on that front. As for when I estimate we're still 3 years away. Same as we were last week. -

Sounds like the enabled GPU setting is calling the Maxon App. I guess in your case you need to disable the GPU setting and enable only CPU. -

You have to enable Redshift in render settings first to see Redshift objects in the interface. You can also have a dedicated Redshift menu but it must be enabled first in preferences/renderer/Redshift and it too will only be visible when Redshift is the chosen renderer in render settings. The GPU/CPU settings can also be found under preferences/renderer/Redshift. -

A transitioning user at least needs to be able to copy and paste color data and the like from one material type to another. If you remove the renderer you also remove the possibility to render old materials, leaving the user blind. -

I'm glad they kept it. You have to give users a transition period. If Physical is removed prematurely, users can't revisit old projects and make good decisions about how to move forward because if the render engine of the original project is removed, no comparative updating and reformation of the scene can reasonably take place. -

You also have to consider that it's not just at render time that a slow process slows you down. It is every test render you need to make alone the way, so ten times slower gets compounded into possibly hundreds of times slower to complete the project or a lot of sacrifices on number of test renders. Still, something is better than nothing and Redshift CPU is definitely better than anything Cinema has natively to date, and as noted already it gives users a chance to use at no cost and decide to upgrade speed at a later time. I thought it was crazy at first but for some it will be something. -
1. The feature nobody expected, and nobody wants: A daily alert notifying user has permanently disabled the Quick Start Dialog at startup with instructions for how to turn it back on. 2. The feature they've sneakily removed without telling anyone: The ability to disable Anonymized Application Activity.

Didn't you know? R32 is the first version Maxon added time travel.

Two years ago it was estimated that we were five years from the core rewrite being completed. Two years have now passed and a lot of people are asking when it will be finished but the answer has never changed, only people's expectations. It's still three years from completion (contingent as always on Maxon surviving that long) so people need to factor that into their considerations on what to do. As for R20 being "The Big One", there probably was a lot of speculation on that being true just because it had been so long already and R20 was a nice fat round number which led to a lot of expectations but I don't recall Maxon ever promising such a thing. On the up side, R20 is still the greatest C4D package ever made and will forever be so. in my judgement simply because it's the last Cinema package that doesn't rely on web activation.

I think you need to put on your trouble shooting hat and ask yourself, firstly, why doesn't your render start in a timely manner? Start removing things until you find a solid answer to this or you'll just be spinning your wheels.

Different renderers have different prep sequences so that's why it is necessary to know. I think the reason all resources aren't used in the prep is because the process needed to prepare for the render is single threaded, that is it can only use one core and not all cores at once. This is usually due to the calculations having to be done sequentially and not simultaneously.

No one can answer for sure because you haven't told us what renderer you are using or what sort of scene it is.

You need to change the Type setting under Generate in the Hair object settings, and you need to change the hair Thickness setting in the Hair material. That said I must point out that Google is your friend in these circumstances. Everyone here learned to use Cinema from following or studying free online tutorials, and those tutorials are by far the fastest and easiest way to learn anything that's completely new to someone.

To add to that, you can duplicate the AM and lock the new AM to that specific object, and just hit the record dot next to the relevant attribute whenever needed.

Nice infograph.
