  1. wooow awesome, thanks for this. didn't realise it was essentially using the same boolean fundamentals as a foundation. also, those feature ideas are phenomenal. : )
  2. I would like to see a tool like this in Cinema4d. But I am also curious, I ask this question to any devs in here; Is this a complex tool to implement? Because it seems very useful, I feel like all 3d modeling programs should have this. I think 3dsmax implemented it the best out of the few programs I've seen that have this.
  3. thanks for this. really interesting. for now, all of the things I have done so far: - rolled back drivers - updated drivers to latest - updated windows - followed some instructions in that microsoft post on clean up - removed shader cache - uninstalled wacom driver - turned on wacom settings / disabled them - checked event viewer for issues, no issues were brought up after crash - turned off anti-aliasing - swore at nvidia/maxon/directx12 read some stuff on guru3d as well that i thought could help that made me roll back drivers, but that didnt work either. really stumped with this one. as I am modeling in the viewport, eventually the viewport would go blank, then after a few seconds of using my mouse, the screen would freeze and I would have to force shut down using the physical power button. kinda bumming me out but it seems like im gnna have to live with it... ๐Ÿ˜ญ
  4. guys, I would like to ask, if anyone is using an nvidia graphics card, what graphics card do you have and what driver are you using? are you experiencing your system freezing after you are modeling for a while? I am trying many things and looked around the internet but still no luck.
  5. still crashing, I'm not giving up however, I am going to continue trying different things, and when I find a clear, confirmed solution, I will post it on this thread and mark it as a solution.
  6. wow, so hunting around on the internet, I found this microsoft forum post: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/machine-has-been-crashing-on-specific-program-for/8c24c346-4a71-494c-9239-c0a8094d3292 the user seems to have the exact same problem as I do, with the same assumption that DirectX is the issue here. the advisor that was trying to help the OP refers to a link back to this forum: ^ I have tried this in the past and still I get crashing. I think my initial assumption was correct, and that the main culprit here is DirectX is causing issues with nvidia cards. The advisor also recommened reinstalling directx, so I think I am going to try that and get back to you guys...
  7. Okay, so it crashed again even with shader cache off. Had to reset my computer. Hmm, maybe its the wacom driver then?
  8. guys, thank you for the replies. @CerberaI don't have 3dconnexion or nimitz installed on my machine. The two external devices I have installed is a Presonus AudioBox iOne and the Wacom tablet I have mentioned previously. @MashWow didn't know about that bug. Not sure if I reached 10,000 viewport clicks, but I definately need to shut down and re open C4D so i can avoid these crashes. I will be doing some modeling today with shader cache turned off, will update you guys further ๐Ÿ™‚
  9. Okay, so the latest thing I have adjusted is turned the 'shader cache' off in viewport hardware preferences because according to the maxon official documentation, "enabling this option can cause the graphics card's driver to crash the application" so we'll see, I am currently modeling as I write this and will let you know if the viewport crashes. As for my system and its connected devices. It is Windows 10, pre built system, installed the 3090 myself, and I have a wacom cintiq 13HD connected to the device. Not sure if the wacom driver inteferes with the viewport but I don't have something like this happening if I use houdini, blender, maya, 3dsmax... so I don't know... As for modeling operations, the last crash I had was when I was adding an edge loop, however, it crashes with any operation since I think this happens when I do anything in 'edit mode'... But I will let you know soon if turning off shader cache has worked.
  10. As the title says. Using Cinema4D 2024. Happens in 2023 as well. Every time I am poly modeling in Cinema4d, my viewport crashes and my whole computer freezes. I have contacted maxon support, and they have said to try older Nvidia drivers like 517 or 526, but it is still crashing even with older drivers. I have a core i7-7700k and a rtx3090 graphics card. Can't figure this one out, but my biggest assumption is that ever since the Directx 12 viewport and these new nvidia drivers, a crash is happening whenever i model. Never happened with the opengl viewport, so something must be going on here. It's either the Directx12 viewport, Nvidia drivers, or both. Either way, I'm kind of getting tired of restarting my whole computer every time I get a crash while modeling... If anyone knows a solution for me I will greatly appreciate it ๐Ÿ™‚
  11. student versions are back on, and this time it's yearly instead of 6 months ๐Ÿ‘Œ
  12. good point. maybe one day in the future when the system is fully matured and stabilized.
  13. I would love to have a physical copy of a book on cinema4d scene nodes. not saying it's something i suggest you do, but if there is anyone out there that is willing to make one, would definately be a buyer. I like learning off books, because reading too much information off pdfs and screens hurt my eyes. I learn better when I have a physical copy and mix it together with youtube and online resources. I think the best book I have ever read that teaches really well is 'Programming in C' by Stepehn Kochan 4th edition. If anyone wants to teach technical concepts like programming or visual programming, i suggest them to follow that format.
  14. did this 2024.1 update also get further viewport performance improvements? https://x.com/dmcgavra/status/1712392652174303492?s=20
  15. I agree, for a software to survive and grow, you need its community to thrive. making it harder to get access to this software for students is not the way to go about it.
  16. nice, thanks for this ๐Ÿ™‚ my biggest suggestion right now to anybody that understands scene nodes, is to teach it in a very fundamental way, just like a really good book on a programming language. I know how to code, but I just don't know the equivalent of certain things in scene nodes. For eg. - how do i make a for loop? - how to make an array? - how to do conditionals? - what are my datatypes and how to use them? - how to use vectors and matrices - how to do vector math in scene nodes in general. we need a complete front to back explanation of all of these with examples and excercises that we can do. right now most of the teaching methods have been more like 'how to make a cloner', and 'look at some example nodes'. but it should be more like, 'lets learn what these nodes are, now heres some examples of what you can do with them, and here are some excercies for you' this way, it would be beneficial to people of all levels ๐Ÿ™‚
  17. thanks for the clarification
  18. correct me if i am wrong but, wasnt scene nodes meant to eventually replace xpresso? if so then i donโ€™t think they would want to invest dev time into revamping xpresso in any way. i assumed scene nodes is the new way to handle procedural geometry and eventually rigging. but i have no idea if im correct or notโ€ฆ
  19. guys, anyone with xparticles, how is the viewport performance working with it? specifically some fluid sim stuff and just emitter in general...
  20. guys, I've also noticed memory use improvements as well. I have a cloner grid with 100 spheres on x and z axis in 2023 and 2024. 2023 using around 8.5gb of memory, while 2024 is using 3.5gb while performing much better in viewport ๐Ÿ˜ฎ see attached.
  21. personally extremely happy with this realease. 2024 solves alot of genuine problems that users have been dealing with for a very long time. two of the most being, no proper vanilla vertex normal editing system, and viewport performance. now, maxon has finally added weighted normals and a vertex normal editing tool and has implemented it really well. we also now have a very impressive viewport speed that finally brings out the power of the new core. also, I didn't know that the deformers are multi-threaded now, which is also a huge performance improvement. pattern selection is a gigantic deal for modelers, and combines super well with the procedural modeling system that capsules provide. adding to that we now have a display of point indexes, which allows us to properly do procedural operations on specific areas of a model. in this regard we are getting much closer to houdini levels of procedural modeling. the continuous work being done for the simulation systems to be more unified is also excellent. Maxon are heading in the correct direction with Cinema4d and I am very happy to be a customer right now. Also, maxon support has been excellent, they have properly gotten back to me rergarding bugs and crashes and have helped me out. good job team and keep it up ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘
  22. Hi, It appears that in the student edition communication preferences there is no way to turn off the quick start dialogue when launching C4D. This significantly slows down C4d startup as it freezes and I have to wait for the dialogue box to load before I can start using. Is there a way to disable this somewhere in some file directory as it doesnt appear in preferences?
