  1. Do you have to be careful with large scale (or tiny) with regards to dynamics, pyro and things like volume?
  2. so still Maxon pissing on normal users.... fair enough. Even Maya doesn't do that.
  3. small QOL features for efficiency. Things like having modeling features such as bevel and edge loops actually use the scroll wheel to add/reduce subdivisions or loops. It's 2024, we should need to move our mouse away from our model to touch ANYTHING in an attributes panel on on screen UI specific for tasking like this. Modeling mode. Once you're in points/edges/polys mode... dear lord don't force us to use "M" or "U" to select ANY MODELING TOOL. That crap is redundant. C4D should see I'm in a component mode therefore I want to edit the model with modeling tools. Snapping.. make it better. See Maya, Blender and Max(?). UV tools and official support for UDIMs. 2024... UDIMs. Relax and welding brushes in UV. Texel Density toolkit built into C4D. This one won't last forever... https://arsen-ch.gumroad.com/l/texel_density
  4. Is it typically May? I need a license for an upcoming job and was trying to find any discounts or promos. added: I was looking at a full year sub.
  5. I cringe at CB articles some times. One of the Cons: is not easy to install for novices when later in the article they state "installing was typical for a C4D plugin". They also mention Redshift GPU comes with C4D. It does not. "It is worth noting that Cinema 4D does come with its own GPU renderer in the excellent Redshift, so I was excited to see how Octane compares from a usability standpoint." There are some more that are head scratchers. Outside of that, it's a shame that not enough care is given for the other Octane plugins. Maya has always been a mess. Octane for Blender is seemingly in perpetual beta.
  6. They’re using TFD in the video. I can see one of the panels with that in the name. Maybe they licensed from jawset. Maybe jawset is working with them directly now which is good for LW users as TFD for LW is around $450.
  7. It looks like LW 2023 beta is showing some stuff. I'm not sure why they priced themselves so high. Maybe they're going after the nostalgia crowd like me who used it a long time ago. Still not sure considering there are more competitively priced apps like Houdini Indie and of course Blender. Now where know where TFD went: It'll be awkward if their procedural nodes end up being more robust than scene nodes this soon in dev.
  8. I have both and prefer Octane. It's a lot more stable and quicker for iterations. While Octane stuck with the older xpresso style node editor, they made enhancements. Both Octane and RS work in other DCCs. I heard awhile ago one of the issues with RS in C4D is actually C4D itself. RS seems to work better in Houdini and Maya, while Octane has progressed more in Blender even having a free Octane version. Also the RS version for Blender is only for Blender 3.4.1 and we're up to Blender 4 now. Octane Studio sub also offers 10 free network nodes, something Maxon would NEVER do for Redshift. That's a plus if you have extra workstations laying around and can throw the Octane server on them and have them wait for work. I moved on to Blender and may try it there. as mentioned elsewhere, if Maxon decides to stop selling C4D only subscriptions and bundles RS automatically with a higher price point, you may see more people forced to switch.
  9. I looked at the CEO’s profile on LinkedIn. Seems to be knowledgeable. Since a lot of apps are embedding AI I’m wondering if he saw the texture gen space was getting crowded. The ai cloud storage sounds fishy but also probably where we are headed from companies like Apple and Microsoft in the future. if you look at some of the info it appears the poly cloud storage will include file conversions to things like PBR and SVG as well as other generative tools so maybe he has decided to expand upon texture gen to something more all encompassing
  10. If they do ultimately bundle it as the only C4D rental, I hope the pricing is better or at least they offer some free render nodes for Redshift. I updated the topic to reflect the info MASH provided so it's less provocative.
  11. So Maxon went full on Greed-mode? I guess they gave in to those complaining about Redshift CPU version and decided to give all C4D users Redshift GPU by removing the C4D only subscription and raising the price to $983 per year. They're also sticking it to Octane, Arnold and Vray users who now have to buy a more expensive C4D, or Maxon just assumes those users will fall in line, since they will have Redshift too.
  12. Maxon is still reluctant to acknowledge USD and MatX, but... Here's a video for how to access AMD GPU Open MTLX Library within Houdini 20
  13. There's also this one but a bit pricy for just being a PBR mat plugin. https://danielsian.gumroad.com/l/redshift_pbr_material
  14. maya indie costs less than c4d.
  15. I wonder how much of that is based on the fact that everything went subscription and people either quit Maxon, stuck with aging software, or fell in line (same with Adobe). When your project files are held hostage by your subscription, there's an urgency to continue paying out. I give them credit, these companies are smart.
  16. By then they announce through cost analysis that student licensing wasn’t worth the time it took to manage it. they figure we’ll have been retired or gone so no one will care. Also they’ll retire the standard c4d sub and raise the cost of Maxon One making it streaming only using a Maxon virtual app. Their statement will explain how they can deploy patches faster and minimize trouble tickets regarding hardware configuration. A month later they’ll announce layoffs in various departments as AI will be used to self-heal code and for trouble ticket analysis. Marketing will be gone as AI will generate tutorials on the fly or simple generate the completed animation for you. I know, I went dark! 🙂
  17. Depends on the sites you frequent for information. 80lvl and Artstation love Blender. Because vanilla blender is free it enjoys a large install base with toxic positivity. Maybe assess what your career path and intentions are. Certain DCCs excel at certain things which is why they are widely used for those tasks. From my searches it appears Blender is a suitable replacement for Maya in game dev and generalist work where assets need to be created. With Maya seemingly still being the recommended primary tool. No one is looking for 3D mograph artists using Blender. I haven’t seen much Blender training for 3D mograph, product viz or other where c4d is primarily used. The stuff I have seen looks substandard. I actually read on one trainer’s site how monetarily it’s better just to keep pumping out beginner blender training. It’s basically a race to the bottom. all that being said I would still recommend Blender to someone first starting out because it is free. C4d refuses to budge on pricing an indie version, include a working redshift at no extra cost, among other things. Obviously the other problem being student licenses. A person starting out doesn’t need to deal with that crap. They can install and start making a dumb donut within 10 min. Oh yeah then I would recommend that person pick up Houdini (FREE apprentice edition). Once they get some cash, pay for the cheap INDIE version.
  18. I wish. Creative Cloud allows for 2 installs which you don’t need to release licensing between them. I thought Autodesk does this too? I remember having a single Maya license on workstation and laptop.
  19. R2024.1 https://support.maxon.net/hc/en-us/articles/8658038724124-Cinema-4D-2024-1-0-October-11-2023 A megaton of fixes it looks like for R2024.
  20. I'm glad for posters like you guys. 🙂
  21. I really think you need to put something out there on social media. A lot of Maxon posts are littered with pissed off people with the same end result.. Blender. I don't think Blender needs anymore acceleration to adoption, especially by its competitors.
  22. It looked like back in 2021 there was talk of C4D being on the dev schedule for Ominverse Nucleus but it's still not here. It would be great to see some commitment from Maxon as I've seen many tools starting to talk about USD as a way to transfer data.. A LOT MORE DATA than just animated or cached meshes. In the help files it says "The first steps have been taken to add USD support in Cinema 4D: import and export of geometry and materials." I've seen people mention on Reddit that it's still unusable in C4D when working with Houdini? Just posted showing how you can export more complex materials from Blender into Ominverse with the Nucleus addon pushing the data. Overall pitch for OpenUSD.
  23. Sorry for the confusion. Hopefully some stuff will be posted to YouTube after the event.
