Are you using OCIO color management in your render? You may want to use a legacy setting with sRGB color space.
-
why wouldn't it help? You apply your clipping material to the cloner. You can then animate either the cloner or the object if you want the effect animated. I know Arnold has the same thing as I remember using it a few years back. I would imagine Redshift has something similar. This was the vp.. forgot to add it the SS

still have it too.. but hey at least we get emails that they are getting rid of those pesky freeloaders so we can stare at this red banner in peace. 😕

It's awkward Maxon sponsors Artofthetitle.com but not Core4D, which some employees frequent.

LW. released their pricing for their new 2023 coming out later this year. For a new user it’s $995. $250 upgrade for current 2020 licenses. $500 for users of older LW versions. They also offer some cheeky pricing tiers where for $1000 an existing 2020 license also gets a tshirt and 5 shares with the company. They lost their fn minds. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them get throttled in social media.

After creating quite a few objects in Blender it can be tedious to use Blender's archaic Outliner. Amandeep released a new Auto-Highlight in Outliner addon. This will move the outliner view to match the object you select in the viewport and highlight the object for you, instead of trying to figure out which collection Blender put something. It also has a Collapse other Collections toggle which will close all other collections other than the one your selected object is in. Apparently he created this after seeing a request in the Blender forum. https://blendermarket.com/products/auto-highlight-in-outliner After installing it, make sure Auto Highlight is checked in the Outliner dropdown. You can toggle Collapse Other Collections too.

maybe maxon should poach some blender devs. 😮

yeah I was looking for a C4D theme and found one based on R25. I had to change the npanel, tpanel and a couple other things so they had transparency behind them or else they had a background all the way down to the bottom of the UI. Goes to show how the blender devs can't even create a floating panel as you have to hide it via a transparency setting. 😜

Switching today to Octane for Blender since I never cared for Cycles. It looks like the Octane network render works inside of Blender as well. Also, they're releasing their Octane addon for Blender soon, so no longer having to download an Octane build of Blender. It'll just be another plugin.

Maybe it's time to open the forum again and bring back the ads?

I got an email today that says in May 15th you'll be removing limited member mode and deleting accounts that aren't subscribed? Why the change, again? -
Octane plugin is coming soon to Blender. No more requiring an Octane build of Blender. XP is also coming. It is a shame Blender devs ignore enhancing basic functionality. They are constantly feature chasing, which works well for the hobbyists... "Oh shit we have great hair nodes!!!" Then again, how many balloon posts are we gonna see from C4D over the next 6 months. 😛

Update on various DCCs and CG technologies. (April) - Regularly Updated

posted on Reddit: They started calling companies yesterday morning (France time). From what they said to us, they will shift towards another opportunity and that the current line of software is not going to receive any new features with exception of bugfixes. And at some point this is it and they will stop development and service. But they did not had more details for the why and what the reason was so far to make this sudden decision. Basically after 31 of October, all license will become like a lifetime subscription (but free) and they will provide the tool to migrate the license to another hardware. After that, all licensed users can keep using it free of charge but without any future updates as long as your os support it. They will surely make an annoncement in the next few days (purely speculation) but yeah something smell fishy (disapearing from all social platform, capital stock bought back from the company last August, changing headquarters adress in february...) -
There are addons which help to fix this. one of them ironically is named QOL (quality of life) tools. https://www.blendermarket.com/products/qol-tools-select-contiguous-edges
-
In your example you can use SHIFT-G [select similar] to select Co-planar (or Normal). Then Select > Select Lops > Boundary Loop This will convert your selection

anything. welding, extrudes, bevels.. anything. Doesn't C4D require you first to go into edit modeling mode with one hot key (vert/edge/poly), then requires 2 more hot keys (in some cases) to perform a function, like M~O. I know you can change some hot keys but it's still asinine that C4D still doesn't have hot key sets based on function. rant off.. back to the topic... Maya has two different hotkeys. One for repeat last command, and the other for repeat last tool. Here's a quick video on both.

Autodesk shut down the beta years ago leaving many of us pissed off. Another product Autodesk bought and left to die. One of the goals was to have mudbox integrated into Maya but because of Maya's legacy code they couldn't find a way to make it perform well so instead just added basic sculpting tools. I suggested a while ago they should give it free with Maya but never got a response. I can't believe they have the balls to still sell this. -
I ran into more stability issues with RS than I ever had with Octane or Arnold. Also, it felt like RS was slower during IPR sessions. Regardless, one of the other things Saul repeats at least 3-4 times a day on RS facebook page, is to lower the memory usage for Redshift to something like 60-70%. You could also take control over how much vram is being used by Adobe apps as well. Apparently Adobe and Redshift have been a bad mix over the past 2 years and Redshift is still saying it's Nvidia drivers. Many people with newer 4xxx cards can't use the old drivers so they're forced to lower mem usage if they want to use Redshift (or shift to Octane or others which don't apparently have this issue). I think it's here:

are you using soft bodies or cloth on these candies? because that will make them look distorted (elongated). should just be a collider or something tag on them.
-
that's a horrible workflow hack. basically creating one-off versions of the same scene just to render things in passes/takes? but hey, at least they got a bunch of hair assets in 3.5. It's a shame they aren't copying quality of life features from other apps anymore. Yes, blender does things differently and too many people give it a pass (pun intended) because it's free. Does different and free mean we can't call it bad? Different also can inhibit workflow. It's a shame many blender users just blindly defend blender completely. It would be great if blender would quit feature-chasing other apps and started focusing on revamping existing feature sets, like the outliner, n panels, addons with their own pop out windows, easier UI configuration, render setup, and more. shit i thought that was me not using it correctly or something. 🙂

I used LW for years before switching to Maya 1.0. LW was mismanaged for years, just like XSI was. It's no wonder both were eventually sold cheaply.

I don't think it'll happen. Maxon seems quite content with the discontent of regular C4D users over this crappy find. Maxon hasn't commented here, on live streams or anywhere else. I think Chris will keep shilling his plugins and his Maxon One-exclusive nodes on his streams and Maxon is fine with that.. subs are subs. I think many C4D users are blissfully unaware Maxon has done this or cares there is a disparity between "versions". A question could be.. how far will this disparity continue? Will they flesh out Scene Nodes specific to Maxon One licenses, where C4D users have half-assed support? Without Maxon commenting, no one knows how deep rooted the cordyceps grow underground. 😛

Don't forget Maya and Max 2024 were released this week too. H20 is quietly simmering in the background...... -

It was a "banger" week. Maya 2024, C4D 2023.2 and Blender 3.5 were all released. -
It appears gltf import was silently added too. I only caught that while reading the update to C4D Lite ironically enough.
