  1. I'd settle for: - Single GPU license for Redshift built in to C4D. Give us a modern renderer for our license, please, even if it's limited. - Viewport/playback speed enhancements I'd absolutely love but don't expect: - Modernizations (speed/realtime) to Sketch & Toon - Next-gen particles - Cloth speed increase I'm sure there are modeling enhancements that other people want, but honestly for my limited skillset, what's in there is good enough for now. I can always add blender for modeling if I need it or if I somehow find the energy or time as I age and become more sleepy. 😉
  2. I absolutely cannot wait!!!
  3. The 3d motion show just said to wait for April 20th for the big news. I'd love to see more sketch and toon as my interest in photorealism and redshift is fading away in favor of real time solutions like Unreal and U-render, and stylized looks.
  4. Thanks for that - I guess the workflow is do the animation without the NPR effects on then add later.
  5. It does answer my question, thanks! Sounds like we are still waiting for that leap in performance. I wonder how it does on the M1 pro/max chips. How does one even begin to work out timing when creating that file with viewport performance that slow? What in the world is slowing it down so much?
  6. Quick question - browsing through some R21 content browser examples yesterday and feeling the slowness of an example file in Sketch and toon (I think it's by EJ, the one with the NPR car going down a stylized road.). The animation was CHUGGING on my Ryzen 3950x and 3080TI combo. Then I watched an Ace5 studios video about how much faster the viewport was in S24. I no longer have a sub, so I can't directly compare. Is viewport/playback speed improved beyond R21? Apparently the timeline/curve editor got faster. As a related topic to not including a modern rendering engine in C4d R25, I haven't seen an update to U-render in a while. They usually develop at a pretty consistent rate. I wonder if Maxon has quietly acquired them and that's going to be in the S26 release (it does work in the viewport, after all, which I love about Eevee and Cycles). It would give C4d an Eevee competitor, at least, but I fear the days of including any new render options in C4d are gone. Unless they include a single GPU license with C4d. I can't see them doing that, though.
  7. Very cool share, thank you! I watched this a while back and found it informative. I've also seen some people doing mechanical modeling in the volume builder! Neat stuff. But Adobe's new 3d program in beta looks like it does something similar to this, but REALLY fast. I've also seen people use volume builder for mograph effects. It's just really versatile.
  8. I would agree they need to showcase the new things they are doing. The volume modeler is quite incredible but I remember not quite getting it when it first came out. Now I realize what a beast it is. They need to do a better job of tooting their own horn. More example files. More tutorials. More stuff on YouTube that everyone can see if they don't have an active subscription.
  9. Can users replace the icon sheet image file with the one from the previous version?
  10. I used Maya years back. It was SO SENSITIVE to drivers! Because of that, I got in the habit of never gaming on my 3d PC. At the time I used it, Maya was a house of cards and the wrong driver would ruin my day. Yes, it hurts in the era of chip shortages and rare GPUs. But my PC has never been so stable. I'm back on R21 after letting my subscription lapse. I'm relieved to find out that so many people think it is the most stable version.
  11. Curious myself - there was a segment that said C4d was 3x faster. But I bet they are saying 3x faster than the last Macbook Pro. They are also comparing it to a laptop with what, a mobile 3060 TI in it?
  12. Wouldn't they update to cycles X? The speed difference is pretty stunning and I imagine x-particles could benefit. I wish C4d had some kind of fast renderer built in, even if it was a raster engine like Eevee. I'm surprised Maxon hasn't tried to acquire U-render as a built in solution.
  13. Wacom intuos 3. I can afford a new one, but this one keeps chugging along and I'm used to it. My 3dmouse is definitely old! Is it worth trying a new one? Back to blender impressions, little things like the settings for a primitive disappearing after the initial creation is strange. Am i missing something, or does that little info panel that pops up disappear forever once you click off anything?
  14. I tend to grip my pen way at the bottom - away from the rocker switch for right/middle click. Might have to try and see if I can get over that. My hands took quite a beating in my younger years, so most of the problem is me. There is also K-cycles X - Even faster! Haven't tried it as it's paid and I'm just starting out in the world of Blender. https://blendermarket.com/products/k-cycles I think I have one collecting dust in my box of tech! Do you just have the 3d space mouse just set to orbit? I'm in windows, switched from a mac a while back with the rise of GPU rendering and CUDA.
  15. I would go ahead and download the alpha and a scene or two - Cycles X is ridiculously fast and I have a feeling it will be an improvement even on 2x GTX 1080
  16. Started the famous donut tutorial last night - man, what a change from C4d. Hard to fight that C4d muscle memory. I use a wacom tablet because of severe RSI, so I'm unsure of how well my hands and fingers will like it the "emulate 3 button mouse" keys. Felt pretty unnatural coming from holding a single key in Cinema for orbit, pan, etc. At the end of lesson one in the famous donut tutorial series there is a quick tip on how to set the default monkey suzanne on fire. Switching from smoke to fire in the pulldown didn't change anything, much to my annoyance! None of the options did anything different, I'm probably missing something. Managed to crash Blender a LOT last night looking at some of the demo files available on blender.org. Switching to rendered viewport view, switching denoise to optix = some hard crashes in the demo files. Other demo files loaded with missing assets (no chairs in the classroom). Not ready to put time into troubleshooting that yet. Cycles X in the blender 3 alpha absolutely FLIES on my (finally working) 3080 TI and I saw very little instability while experimenting with changing the de-noising techniques. It's amazing how much a built in GPU renderer in cinema 4d would have done to keep me a happy subscriber. I feel like the speed of Cycles X will lead to more fun for many artists. Eevee demo files were a treat. My god, so much fun to crank out frames with sub 1 second render times with motion blur. Not quite ready for primetime in 3.0 alpha yet, though. Change is always difficult. We'll see if I can stick with it. I think Cycles X alone is worth exploring Blender for.
  17. Rest is good! I can relate to your challenges AND your passion, although I am most definitely a hobbyist by comparison. I don't make my living from C4d. A release that doesn't address my needs doesn't affect my career like others here. I turned off my auto renewal in my Maxon account and will not be getting R25, falling back on R21 and U-Render. I'll take a second look at S26 when it releases.
  18. I think you've read a little too much into my statement, and somehow taken it personally. But that's probably my fault, as you may not be familiar with the particular people that poisoned the cg talk cinema 4d forum - the same few people ARE trolls. The interrupt genuine Q&A threads with Maxon rants or derail with saying how a user could do it in blender. Congrats on your success. Please don't assume quite so much about what I write next time. Clearly R25 is one of those releases that many people are unhappy about.
  19. I absolutely believe this. The Cg talk cinema 4d forum is basically dead thanks to the same two or three posters over there who turn every thread into an anti-Maxon / pro-blender rant. I can't think of a single successful artist who has that amount of time dedicated to being a forum troll.
