  1. This depends on how much on the look-out the companies owning the products are and how much they are willing to spend in R&D to implement the tech (hire the authors ? let their developers decipher the papers and write the code from scratch ?) There's also the implementation to the rest of the app headache. Most of these computational methods are like 4D puzzle pieces. You can't just throw the code in your app and expect it to work. There are so many factors that need modifications to make it compatible with your app: The language it was written in External dependences like language specific libraries Reference to other papers which could lead to more code 3rd party technologies like hardware and communication with it and most importantly will it be on par with how the rest of the app handles the data structures and representations ? (voxels for example, C4D can't render voxels, only polygons)
  2. The most detailed VFX video of DUNE. Almost 2 hours.
  3. I watched the movie Free Guy. Seemed similar to movies like Wreck it Ralph, Ready Player One, Tron and Truman Show. Overall amusing. Movie Info: Plot: In the extremely popular video game, Free City, a NPC named Guy learns the true nature of his existence when he meets the girl of his dreams, a human player. This player's interactions with Guy has massive affects on him, the game, and real world as they play it. Genre: Action, Adventure, Comedy, Fantasy, Sci-Fi Trivia: The fictional 'Free City' is based on Liberty City from Grand Theft Auto III (2001) and Grand Theft Auto IV (2008) games. In turn, Liberty City was inspired by the real-life New York. The high-end sports cars, tanks, helicopters, motorcycles, etc., in the various strongholds are all real and had to be carefully protected from typical film crew wear and tear. At the end of filming the helicopter flew away directly from the studio. This movie is heavily inspired by the science fiction novel Simulacron-3 (1964) by Daniel Francis Galouye. In the novel, the main character realizes that he lives in a simulated world inside a computer. A female admin enters the world, and with her help he can save his world from destruction. There have been several adaptations of this novel, a.o. the German 2-part TV-miniseries World on a Wire (1973) by Rainer Werner Fassbinder. Have you noticed C4D in the first scene at the Soonami offices ? Here's some VFX breakdowns and backstage videos And some unexpected C4D/Red Giant related tutorial
  4. Could you share your file ? Just put a sphere in there. I'm mostly interested on the parameters of the shader.
  5. I remember a Fireworks example that could help you but when I opened it (it's called Example 03) in R25 it was nothing like I remembered from R12. I've never seen a more complicated TP rig. Have you looked up your example from the Content Manager for help ?
  6. That was unexpectedly frustrating ... I've checked the following: Hair type Used an other UV Projection Changed the Coordinate Space Linked Offset and Rotation of the Triplanar to the Scull and Hair object's Local Matrix, G.P, G.R, Position and Rotation Tried messing with the texture node I've looked it up on Arnold manual. I've googled the problem. Nothing. No one ever tried to use a texture map on a hair shader as you did. Three possible explanations for me: It's a bug - Arnold should be able to transform the projection mapping to follow the hair Projection mapping on hair is not supported (technically it is since you already rendered it, I mean they did not think of specifically implementing the algorithm for hair and what we see is the default script handling that just does not find all the appropriate attribute links but chooses to ignore in order to not crash) I'm a noob. Do they have a support page to report to them ? Have tried to recreate the scene in an other DCC like Maya or Max ? Have you posted your issue on an Arnold dedicated forum ?
  7. Théo Thonat, François Beaune, Xin Sun, Nathan Carr and Tamy Boubekeur ACM Transactions on Graphics - SIGGRAPH Asia 2021 Technical Paper Abstract Displacement mapping is a powerful mechanism for adding fine to medium geometric details over a 3D surface using a 2D map encoding them. While GPU rasterization supports it through the hardware tessellation unit, ray tracing surface meshes textured with high quality displacement requires a significant amount of memory. More precisely, the input surface needs to be pre-tessellated at the displacement map resolution before being enriched with its mandatory acceleration data structure. Consequently, designing displacement maps interactively while enjoying a full physically-based rendering is often impossible, as simply tiling multiple times the map quickly saturates the graphics memory. In this work we introduce a new tessellation-free displacement mapping approach for ray tracing. Our key insight is to decouple the displacement from its base domain by mapping a displacement-specific acceleration structures directly on the mesh. As a result, our method shows low memory footprint and fast high resolution displacement rendering, making interactive displacement editing possible. 8. Hi everyone. I have an idea for a community driven project based on the SceneNodes system. The goal of this project is to merge all C4D basic primitives under a single node with more and improved features that will hopefully unlock more modeling and animation possibilities. The project will be open and free for all to modify and upgrade. Here is a first concept of how this Node could look in its final form: Primitives 2.0.pdf I have some concerns that some of these properties might not be possible with the current R25 system but it can still be a productive way to inspire future improvements on the node system. You can vote your support or opposition to this project at the top of this post. If this project gets enough supporting votes the administration will move this thread to a more fitting topic and we can start discussing the technicalities to bring it to life.
  9. Remember this ? I think it was only featured in C4D R21. Has anyone used it ? Was it good ? Does it still work ? The home page has dead links https://cloud.google.com/blog/products/gcp/cloud-rendering-platform-zync-render-gets-a-major-update I think the project has been discontinued. Does anyone have any similar suggestions ? (cheap render farms)
  10. Thanks for the clarification Noseman. If "The Elementary knowledge test is NOT in any way related to the Basics Comprehensive Certification Test" then what sort of test is it ? What are the differences between the Basics Comprehensive Certification and the Trainer Certification ? How does one prepare for the two Certificates ? (is there a database of questions ?) What does being a Certified Trainer mean (except from the NDA benefits) ? From what I have figured out it could mean that you get a job at Maxon for uploading content on Cineversity and taking part as a presenter at live streams and NAB. In order to participate for the certification do you have to own a C4D copy ? If not will Maxon provide a trial version ? (you might have already used a trial and has now expired). Do you have to know the latest release of C4D to take the certificate ? (Some may still use releases prior to R21) Will the certification tests change with each new release of C4D ? Do certificates have an expiration date ? It is stated: Does that mean 90% proficiency on each topic individually or 90% overall ? Is the Trainer Certification just an evaluation process like the Basics Comprehensive Certification Test or does it contain a seminar teaching the candidate how to be a Trainer ?
  11. Shortcuts are old school. C4D has transcended the notion of tool availability with custom layouts, folded palettes, floating palettes, history palette, radial menus and HUD commands. There's really no need for shortcuts except from the classic copy/cut/paste/delete/undo/redo/select all/select/deselect.
  12. For some reason my free exam consisted of 60 questions instead of the 50 that was mentioned in the instructions... I had to take the test with C4D open. I had to cheat. Who really knows that Ctrl+H is Frame Geometry ? The most important viewport command is probably Frame Default and it does not have an assigned shortcut (I know I can assign one). That's a certification question right there... How do you assign shortcuts? , not expecting to know a rando command shortcut. For me to use shortcuts I have to be doing some repetitive job. The only repetitive job I can think of is modeling. And there were times when I had to jump between Cut, Bridge and Weld all the time, of course I had to use the shortcuts to do so, but once the job was done I completely forgot about them. Time to learn the shortcut on the time of need: 20 seconds. Time to earn the money needed to take the certification: 2 month's salary. Time to learn all possible questions (given the fact that they don't provide a question bank like taking a driving license): I have no idea. In fact I would be much relieved if there was a question bank in order to study, because just taking the test out of the blue without proper preparation and achieving a 90% success without the app running on the side, is impossible. They don't mention any question bank. Does anyone know anything about this ? If that was the case then the hiring company would be testing the candidate not Maxon. And it's called interview, and software lead developers are constantly using it when they are up to hiring a programmer. You'll never hear of a C++, Java , or Python certification. The interviewer will ask the candidate a series of technical questions and assess based on his response. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And on to an other subject: What about the cost ? Not all basic incomes are the same across the globe. The base income of a 3D artist in Germany for the first 3 years isn't the same as one living in Russia, Turkey or Romania. Do you really expect from a person that has been unemployed in his field 2 or 5 years after getting out of his university to pay €995/$995 just so you can hire him for less ? And we are talking about C4D here... no studio uses just C4D. Would you expect from a candidate employee to pop up with a bunch of certificates from Adobe, Autodesk, Maxon and SideFX ? ****** And so we don't get in to misunderstandings... When I say "you", I'm not targeting you Imashination expecting your response. Some times I do it in a rhetorical way. I expect anyone to weigh in with his/her opinion on this. ****** I guess if you want to be a Certified Trainer you ought to be a senior professional having established a decent salary in your career to be able to afford that certificate and there is no fast way to climb that ladder (unless you are rich). Maybe this is only my view of things, where I come from certificates, even paid ones, are earned through real struggle, not just answering a 50 multiple question exam. Maybe I am viewing it all wrong and having a Trainer Certification is not a means to getting a job or starting a career but a "badge" or "insignia" for already established professionals.
  13. Are you obligated to re-take the certificate every 5 years or so to remain certified ? It would be nice to have a C4D certificate back in R12 when things were simpler, they would probably charge a certificate per module for a fraction of the today's cost.
  14. Has anyone taken the Cinema 4D Basics Comprehensive Certification or Cinema 4D Trainer Certification ? I took the Elementary Knowledge Test. First attempt got me to 80% which means failure. If the two paid certifications are like the Elementary Knowledge Test, judging from the type of questions in the later, I would be really disappointed... There are questions in there that you'll mostly likely answer wrong for various reasons like: You don't use the tool in question often enough. You don't use shortcut keys. You can't possibly remember by heart where every command and tool sits in what menu. If only we could always figure things out just from a screenshot, even if it is possible to diagnose like this, it's better to get your hands on the scene file... I find it hard to believe that these type of questions are fair to validate one's knowledge of the application (more so on "Basics Comprehension") . We've seen many Maxon people loose their track on live shows trying to recreate their own rehearsed demonstrations. Does that make them less certified ? The Basics Comprehensive Certification requires a 90% accuracy on 32 topics and 100% to be eligible to take the Trainer Certification. In the 3D industry most people are no generalists, that could mean that someone isn't skillful with UVs or rigging tools, Why would that make them less certified on C4D ? For me, problems like those we post and answer on this forum reflect better on someone's ability to use the software (and probably use it to educate someone else). I would like to know your experiences and what you think of the certification costs. Do certifications for other DCCs (PS, AI, CAD ...) have similarities to those ?
  15. Oh God my eyes ! Is this really a 2021+ production ? It looks like an awful 3D 2000s Donkey Kong kids animation. No detail, no expressiveness and like the old stupid spin off where they were babies.
  16. "game cinematics and realtime demos formats" don't exactly go well with the "unprecedented level of realism and complexity" concept... And why do they keep their content locked for non-subscribed visitors ? Where's the "free and open for all" on that ? "2-minutes-long animation" ? This must be the shortest short movie they ever built...
  17. That's because he makes his own plugins. Why should he advertise the product of someone else, especially when so many others have done before him. If he ever started to use 3rd party plugins he would certainly loose viewers (including me) and supporters.
  18. Makes sence, Architects and Mechanics (had to include CAD and CAM) need to show as many visual information to customers as fast as possible and be prepared for a changes. Their technical work is time consuming enough to wait for renders. And during presentations they need to show things interactively from many angles in case the customer might be interested in specific details.
  19. Yeap, all the way. Did I miss something ?
