I have a SATA to USB cable and a case for internal hard drives with SATA also connected to USB. So I never look explicitly for external hard drives anymore (both cost and security), I prefer my data easily accessible via USB.

Yeah, this is mostly what I'm concerned with... From what I've understood so far is that SSDs are suited mostly for reading data not re-writing. But most people will use SSDs as the main booting device because it's fast completely disregarding the fact that Windows or any OS is constantly re-writing (cache, temp files, browser files, OS updates, registry).
