Cinema 4D eats up absolutely ALL memory - RAM and SSD space

2.4 million polygons is nothing for a modern system (even for low end machine), this is not related to the OP issue -
Cinema 4D eats up absolutely ALL memory - RAM and SSD space
Stefano Strika replied to Jumpkut's topic in Cinema 4D
I can guarantee 100% that Maxon support knows about this issue since several months. They still have not fix it. Here is not a problem, maybe I restart C4D once in a while, probably for someone with limited RAM/disk space can be more annoying. -
They have a small C4D demo at 13'25''
-
Usually on the website they report all the details of the test in the notes at the bottom of the page, so is probable that you will find this information there. Sometime they use real production scenes rather than benchmarks for their test, this may favor the hardware since benchmarks are usually very simple while large production scenes can benefit from the large amount of RAM shared between the CPU and the GPU.
-
They always reports real figures in their benchmarks, but they obviously choose benchmarks that tends to favor their hardware. So if you perform the exact same tasks you should expect comparable results, on different tasks you may experience very different performance.
-
The dedicated tool from Agisoft will be perfect for this
-
Why do you need an eGPU when the internal GPU will be able to do the job? According to your original post you just need to work on simple scene and an MBP can deal with that (and beyond) without issues.
-
Here at studio we have a 16" MBP, is fast, stable, quiet and the battery last very long. We do use CPU engine but I remember about this video for RS performance (turn on subtitles). A modern discrete Nvidia GPU will be faster for final render, but it will consume a lot and produce quite a bit of noise/heat, all issues that will affect user experience and performance on a laptop, so is not an obvious choice.
-
They are already looking in to this;)
-
You don’t need AI for that, engines like Vray, Corona and other have algorithms to adapt and automatically optimize the sampling without user inputs since years, and they are very effective.

If anyone is interested we are offering 50% discount on all our Products and Courses for Vray 5/6 and Corona for Cinema4D. You can find all assets and courses already discounted in our shop: https://www.3dtutorialandbeyond.com

FWIW I've tested yesterday on a M1 Ultra and from my tests it looks as fast or faster than the initial example posted in the video. It seems very nice, though I'll probably never use it for my works

Affinity Suite... Something big is Coming?
Stefano Strika replied to hobbyist's topic in Discussions
In my experience Affinity is superior to PS for a lot of things, including 32bit editing that for CG artists is essential. It is also a lot faster and more efficient than PS (at least on MacOS, haven't tried on Windows yet) and it is cheaper too if that matter. The only reason why I'm still using PS and not Affinity is because I do most of my editing inside the frame buffer, so I only need minor tweaks on my images and for the rest PS provide a good toolset and I'm accustomed to it. PS may still have some advantage in selected circumstances but that depends on your workflow. Bottom line, is a very good contender and for some stuff is superior to PS. -
Hello, I have two pieces that do not display at the rendering
Stefano Strika replied to FerLop's topic in Cinema 4D
delete this tag and it will work: -
Hope this is not the future... it looks more like a nightmare to me... Why should I let an AI algorithm decide for myself? beside the fact that many low end artist will loose the job since poor quality one click solutions will be available for everyone. Technology should be here to help our job, not make it redundant..
-
As far as I know with the latest OS release some C4D glitches on M1 Ultra have been solved as well.
-
I was looking in your setup and it seems quite useful! I was wandering if there is a way to randomize the objects position. I need to do something like in the attached image and cylinders should not intersect with each other, maybe ther's an easy way top get it done with this node setup

Sketchbook Living and Dining | C4D R26 + Vray6
Stefano Strika replied to Stefano Strika's topic in Sketchbooks
It depends by the model, some models are made from laserscan (at least in part), other are done by me using traditional quad modeling and subdivision surface, other comes from Marvelous Designer, and some time the model is made out of all this techniques together. Here are a few wireframe: -

Stefano Strika replied to Stefano Strika's topic in Sketchbooks
Not all of that is made from scratch, as said some model are laserscan, then I reuse some furniture I've made for other projects and even for the new stuff I often start from components I already have. The chandelier for example is made out of parts from a chandelier I've done a few years ago, same thing for the curtains, the table lamps, the TV cabinet and other parts. -
How to make a material that looks like the surface of the sun?
Stefano Strika replied to Nkzmi Dev's topic in Cinema 4D
If you still need it I've done a quick test with some layered noise (it can be improved a lot with a bit of work). The layer should be readable by most C4D engine: sun layered noise.c4d Here is a test with the same setup and a few sun flare: -
Sketchbook Living and Dining | C4D R26 + Vray6
Stefano Strika replied to Stefano Strika's topic in Sketchbooks
Thanks! Forgot to post some statistics: -about 40million real polygons plus render instances -over 250 lights(spherical, ies, and mesh light plus a physical sun/sky for the day light views) -large use of Vray Fur coupled with Vray Hair material for the carpet. The area was quite large (about 250 square meters of carpet) but I've managed to limit the RAM consumption by using the dedicated level of detail feature -I've used C4D R26, Vray6, Marvelous Designer, all modeled by me except for some laser scans and a couple accessories -most textures and shaders created from scratch for this project, I've also used a few metal from my bundle -tone mapping and post production done 99.9% inside the frame buffer, just some highlights compression, a LUT, and some cryptomatte mask here and there, some white balance when needed -10 days of work including render time -about 4/5h per image @4K resolution on an old 8core system with 32GB RAM -

Thanks a lot for your suggestion! -
MOD please move the topic, somehow I've posted in the guideline... Here is one one of my latest work, I know you may not like the style;) Any constructive critic is much appreciated, especially regarding tone mapping/color/mood!

On our channel we have several tutorial, including a 2h workshop sponsored by Chaos last year: https://www.youtube.com/c/3DRenderandBeyond/videos I've been extremely busy in the last few months and I didn't have spare time to make new tutorials, I hope to upload more video soon though. Chaos have many videos too on their channel, also being essentially the same software you can take any Vray for Max/Maya/whatever tutorial and do the same in Vray for Cinema4D.
