I am mesmerized by the quality of this!!! it is absurd!!! ❤️ And I had no idea Blender Studio had this kind of humour haha! I was pleasantly surprised!

New animated series, made with Blender, on Netflix ❤️

Hey Dez, thanks for the help! I've used light groups before, but I wish there was an easier way to work with light linking (like the way it works in Cinema 4D for example) Thanks for your video though, I will check it out! 🙂
-
This has no comparison to how easy and objective light linking is (and how it should be) I am aware there were ways to hide lights and etc.. but it is cumbersome.
-
Well, I am already happy about it because, differently than before, there was no even a real concrete answer on why this didnt exist. Now there is an actual plan to be part of it, so I am happy 🙂 This is one of the major things that stops from considering Blender for some final look renders.

Ah, I saw on their "trello thingy" and got this on my email: And this: Before it wasnt on that list, so at least we can keep our hopes up? 🙂

@hvanderwegen I think light linking is coming to Cycles 3.0 after all 🙂 They just moved the whole topic from "under development" to " cycles 3.0 features" ❤️ https://wiki.blender.org/wiki/Reference/Release_Notes/3.0/Cycles

Hmm, I have used mac for a large part of my career, and I am not a computer illiterate hehe. For me, the choice was quite clear since I found apple environment to be a lot better connected and a lot more stable than windows counterparts. I have used mac for a giant part of my past projects, all thanks to the portability and the power my macbook used to have back in the day, compared to other laptops. Of course, over the past 5-8 years, it seems that Apple has given up on the PRO crowd, and made some stupid decisions here and there. But potability is a big deal for me. I had a lot of moments where I was travelling somewhere, and a quick project came up and I remembered "Oh yeah, my ultra giant pc with the 2 graphic cards is in Brazil, I cant do this.." Right now I use Windows out of necessity, since it is cheaper If these new machines can perform well with 3D projects, then it would be a no brainer for me. I can continue to work on 3D heavy projects from home, but if there is a project that I need to travel abroad and bring my work computer with me, would be brilliant. But of course, we have to wait and see.

I gotta say, this is the first time I get excited about a machine in many years. If it does what I think it does, being able to handle 3D projects, rendering, etc... fast, it will be a game changer for sure. One good think about apple laptops is that they last.. a long time! They are extremely expensive, but if you manage to work with 3D, and get 2-3 nice projects, or 10 smaller budget projects, the laptop will pay itself. And you get to have a nice machine for at least 5 years. My macbook is here with me, working nicely (well, speakers started to have some weird problems) since 2013. I will wait and see though. A friend of mine already does bit of modelling work in a very small macbook pro m1, and he says he is super happy with how fast the machine is, and this new m1 pro being 70% faster from what it was already a good speed. Impresses me. Specially the portability of it.

It is weird, maybe a limitation on my side? Tried again and same notification 😞 I tried subscribing to a different channel and activated notifications and worked
-
PS: I tried to click the bell icon on Youtube, to get notified when you post something new and I got this notice, hehe;

Subscribed!!! 🙂

This is so freaking beautiful! Hang on..let me find my jaw again, because it dropped somewhere while watching this...

Awesome Igor! Congrats!

Lol... did I get the release / fields update wrong? Haha! Sorry hehe. For some reason, the subscription implementation and the with fields happened at the same time!
-
I would say that the inclusion of fields, changed drastically how C4D works when it comes to mograph, and improved a lot the workflow in general. That one for me, was a big push to say "ok.. im not happy with subscription, but this is happening, and if they can bring this kind of updates to the table, it is awesome" But yeah, I am sure there was some important things changed since then, but nothing in the same proportion as fields. I am using C4D because my clients already expect some sort of pattern within my work, things that only mograph can make, etc, and some studios, specially in North America, often share some collaborative C4D files for me to work on a specific part, so it is a bit of a slow process on my part to move away from this environment. I also dont personally believe in "breaking up" with a software - Goodbye forever C4D!! Hello Blender - because different softwares offers different solutions to specific situations. And as long as using C4D pays my bills, well.. I will use it, while slowly moving to a different solution. Do I feel like I am getting value for the money? Not as much as before, no... but I am a microscopic dent compared to a whole business plan of a company I have little control of. After this update, my level of expectation for C4D has dropped so low, that well, I will concentrate my energy and focus into learning something else than complaining here. Obviously there are people happy with how things are, and well, good for them. Yes, the software is a lot less stable right now... but C4D has so many great things going for it. Yes, it doesnt have a good particle system.. but it has xparticles which helps a lot. It has a brilliant object manager (that we all have to agree, it is one of the best in any 3D application) and it has a super intuitive interface (well... Im talking about R24 at least hehe, havent tested R25 yet, but some people seem to like it). But all of this becomes meanignless if the performance doesnt catch up. If they can fix these core issues within the software, or give us a little bit of a roadmap just to signal "hey, we are aware of this.. we will be looking into it before the update R such and such..." it would be brilliant.

That is interesting to know. To be honest, my main issue is with light linking, so e-cycles provides that?
-
This is by far, the best summary of the current sentiment here. Thanks @Macgyver
-
Thanks for sharing your insight @Papa Lenny! I am so tempted to test Cycles X, but having just two normal gtx 1080...not sure how much improvement I would actualy see. But yeah, so many good reviews!
-
@Cerbera, have you considered going into the subscription route? I ask because I am actually considering getting the perpetual license, the opposite route... even though it would be a major investment. But I just want to stay in the same version for a very long time I reckon... but as I mentioned in another thread, I am finding difficult to continue with my character animation career inside C4D 😞 I feel that Blender is not for me yet.. and Maya is a scary monster so far.

Surreal Maxon fee for transferring old perpetual licences...

GSG Plus is a joke. Whenever I see this being mentioned, I cant help but to roll my eyes. They always announce it as if it was a big advantage do its users, well.. all these subscription scam companies does the same "We are doing this for you! It has a lower entry level! We are always updating and giving support" We know how exactly how this works by now... -
OMGGG... did you make that in Zbrush? This is so beautiful! Everytime I try to do some hard surface object... I give up on 5% completion.

It is a good insight @PiotrB 🙂 Thanks for sharing with us.

To summarize the general feeling I have, I will use the following analogy: You have a nice car. You love your car, but there is a problem with the engine, a big one, that cuts the performance of the car down by 50%. You decide to bring it to a mechanic. You explain the problem, and after a few minutes, the mechanic says: "Ah ok, I understood.. well, let me give you a new coat of paint on your car!" You explain that the coat in paint is nice and all, but you actually need a fix on the engine, it is very important to you The mechanic nods, and says "well, you need to take the car out and see how this paint will perform on a rainy day" You repeat several times that the new paint is cool, but you need a engine fix. The mechanic then replies "Well, I think what you are saying is being blown out of proportion... dont worry, I am listening to your issues, but please, try this new car paint first" This is what it feels when I am trying to explain why this last update was so abysmal. There is nothing wrong with the new interface, and I am sure people are loving it, maybe I will love it too once I start using it. But there is a long list of issues the software needed to fix first, things that affects directly our productivity. The subscription conversation keeps coming back again and again, because there are this shortcomings that keeps being ignored, while we are being offered gimmick things that we dont really need. If the company opened the communication, honestly, giving us at least a bit of a roadmap, and not just PR friendly responses or reducing the importance of our feedback... or.. the software improved with key essential things that changes our workflow for the better (ie: Fields) you can bet the amount of complaints about the subscription method would drop dramaticaly. But yeah, Im kinda done with this thread, because I realised there isnt going to be a mutual understanding. We just have to accept things will not change, and use our energy on different things.

Let us play the quote game then @srek. After all these discourse you seem to be taking, now you are trying to portray that somehow, I am not understanding what you are saying, or that you are not trying to belittle the negative feedback from people here in this forum. My impression and general feeling about your communication is not coming out of the blue, or that I am not actually understanding things. And I am pretty sure I am not alone in this feeling. We dont have a "bias" as you put it because there are certain aspects that we are not happy with, specially within the last update. As someone pointed out before, you are a Maxon guy, so you obviously cant publicly acknowledge or even try to understand where the frustration is coming from. I get it. But you dont need to go the extra mile and work hard on diminishing people's negative feedbacks, giving us the impression that... us, the people who has specific problems with C4D right now, are not representative of the vaste majority of users, because we are biased and in small numbers.
