FLima replied to HappyPolygon's topic in News
Has anyone managed to install the new version? I am trying to open it here, but it keeps saying that I dont have license for it. I tried releasing my license and assigning again from the maxon app but nada.. EDIT: just figured out what happened π It was signed on a different account, duh! -
Maxon's Spring 2022 Launch Event | Live Stream | S26 Announcement

I feel like this was an good update. Not supeeerb.. but quite good (specially compared to the previous updates!) It is a step in the right direction, specially when it comes to modeling. There are no gimmicks and playful things, just a nice and refined modelling tool. Wish there was an update on the core performance of the software, then it would definitely become a powerhouse, specially with how easy is to work with Mograph to populate your scene... -
Haha! I love this! Looking forward to see the nominations!

Agree 100%. It is difficult, after using C4D for so long, I do feel it is the software more "artist friendly" - if there is such a thing - that doesnt get much in the way for us expressing something... in other softwares, I feel a bit more like a "technician", trying to figure out exactly what is the correct order of things, having to decide and set in stone these decisions... etc... But you are right, being a purist is a hindrance more than anything at this point.

Sorry to hear about the disability π But I would say, dont give up 3D, specialy nowadays, with so many options, great and free options π it is sort of a skill that takes a long time to learn, and even more to perfect it. But once we have it, I dont know, even if it takes some extra time, there is always a path to chose. Im still giving Blender a try, specially when I am working with more cartoon shader characters (eevee is a blast for that!). This next c4d update will dictate what direction they are heading I think, so it will make it clearer to most of us, where to invest time in, and work more efficiently from there.

Some of us are in a bit of a weird spot arent we? I wish it was possible, to just transfer my knowledge of C4D into a complete different software, like Maya or Blender... Im 40 years old and I confess, I am struggling a bit learning Maya for instance.. shorter attention span, dont have the energy to stay working for late hours after my commercial projects, etc... I know it would be the best candidate to replace C4D as a big production tool, but still cant figure it out... And with C4D, so many things works so perfectly! Selecting multiple things, appling a modifier to a whole set of objects inside a group... grouping things, organizing the scene, this is so awesome, yet, a performance that bottlenecks any big production dream, shortfilms, big scenes, etc. Im past getting angry or have feelings involved in this discussion. I just wish C4D gets a big performance boost. I wouldnt care pay for the subscription or whatever.... if it delivered what I wanted to use it for, in my case, be able to create nice character animations and short films.

YES!!! This!!

I appreciate the humor in this hehe. Now, where is my raptorize??
-
Haha yes! Who approved that icon??

I think my expectations are so low.. sooo low, that I am also just hoping for fixes. Probably one thing that would make me super happy, and I am sure I am not alone in this, is that they fixed the performance of the entire software, to allow multiple characters to be animated for instance. So that the timeline would just perform normaly, allowing us character animators, to finally work on bigger scenes, with multiple things. Because right now, this is impossible. That would sort of open a lot of doors really. It would transform C4D into an actual multi-faceted 3D software, not just motion graphics machine.

This is really good! Just hoping there will be an option for perpetual users to upgrade, not just the subscription crap..

When epic animation and music comes together| League of Legends | Imagine Dragon

I second what Dave said. Arcane is one of the best game adaptations I've ever seen. So much details and brilliant art direction. The story is also amazing! Very emotional, so well written!! I almost forgot how many f.bombs I got while playing LoL a few years ago haha. The story and characters are awesome, but damn.. the community sucks so much! π I will definitely watch Arcane once again during holidays. -
Announcement Maxon Announces an Agreement to Acquire ZBrush

Or you can make the effort and look how the social media response to previous Pixologic posts were like, the common responses, specially when announcing upgrades and new tool implementations on Zbrush. Or how the community of Blender reacts when newer things are announced too. People arent idiots and can clearly see and figure out what is really happening, despite you trying to paint a different picture by people's responses. -

I see some comparison here between 3d coat, blender sculpting and zbrush... And as much as I love the first two softwares, I will be honest, there are miles, miles of distance between them and what Zbrush is capable of... Blender sculpting is getting up there, but still.. the brushes, I dont know.. I dont feel 100% control of what I am doing. But of course, the easy access to poly modeling is really awesome, since zmodeler has an extremely clumky way to work... I work with Zbrush for about 3-4 years, mostly for character design and some hard surface and detailing. The interface is scary as hell at first, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes so fluid and highly customizable. 3D Coat is a great software, but it is voxel sculpting, a totally different beast. It is great for some things, specially quick concept, but for fine detailing, not so good. Also, 3D coat is very unstable.. whenever I am doing retopo, I keep wondering "ok..will the symmetry break now? will the software crash?" I just paid for their new update, and the software still continues with this trend... I ended up buying Retopoflow 3 for Blender and never looked back. I think this is what upsets me the most. Each update Zbrush received, was awesome, for free, and really made sense for when they were released... compared to the laughable pathetic updates C4D has received over the past 2 years. If Pixologic started charging for updates from next year, even at a higher cost, I am 100% sure the customers would be super ok to pay for it. Heck.. I was starting to feel weird not paying for these! After Redshift got acquired by Maxon, the same thing happened. In a whole year, a big part of the updates were just fixes for bugs created by themselves on previous iterations. Not to mention the passive agressive/patronizing tone some of the developers there seemed to have adopted. For me it's clear, there will be no benefits for us after any business move involving Maxon. Specially under this current leadership. It is just crappy news all around. -

Not long ago, I praised Pixologic for their mentality and how they treat customers over the years. What a disgusting piece of news... the outcome of this, I guess we all know too well. Given the track record of how Maxon treats customers, the abusive price for half baked updates, and how they try to sell this subscription scam as "hey, it will be good for you". I can expect that perpetuals for Zbrush will be a thing of the past... Sure there will be sort of offers that will "buy" your license, and sell you back as a lease software that you used to own in the first place. Man.. the 3D industry.. am I right? Maxon, Autodesk, Adobe. We are in "great" company. -
Exactly my feeling. So many different backgrounds displayed in here, and the truly heartfelt message from Ton, yeah, it is a really good feeling. PS: I just tested Cycles this afternoon, and wow... so much faster β€οΈ I will definitely be moving my shortfilm to Blender now. I only wish light linking was implemented... but I will try to figure out some workarounds.

This video is as important as the release video, it clearly shows how in front of the line, Blender is when it comes to its customers, and how much care they have for everyone.
-
Such an amazing update!! Going to play with it tonight π
-
I dont think it needs to be online the whole time, but at least at the beginning, since the authentication is done through Steam. I remember once I had an issue with my connection, and couldnt start it π But maybe there is a workaround. Also, I've read somewhere that this version of Substance Painter will be the very last on steam. So far, some of the updates were for free after a year of the initial purchase, but this one will be the last π
-
I actually use Substance Painter and Designer from Steam for about 4 years now. Also bought Marvelous Designer from there, much cheaper and perpetual last year, although, I think they removed it from the stores. π My friends are always confused with my online prompts... "Fabricio's Recent Activity Substance Painter - 35 hours Sekiro - 20 hours Resident Evil 2 Remake- 19 hours" "What is this Substance Painter you play so much Fabricio? I always see you online on it, what is it about?"

From what I heard, they are updating the website right now for the Black Friday offers. If you try to go on your licenses page right now, you wont be able to.
-
I am now really tempted. But... has anyone here on this forum used it already?
-
This is a good topic, but unfortunately, you wont see many results in here. As others mentioned (and as I unfortunately found out a bit too late, mid production of my own shortfilm) C4D cant handle multiple character animations at all. C4D's animation timeline performance is extremely poor compared to other softwares, such as Maya and Blender. You will see short films with one or two characters, maximum. If Maxon had a better focus, and finally decided to improve the animation and timeline performance... C4D would be a brilliant software to produce short films with! Rigging in C4D has become really good since version 20. Auto-weight is still a bit of a nightmare, even after the addition of Bone Glow and such... sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt (specially in low poly characters) But the way to set up constraints, being able to organize things by groups and visually see the hierarchy, makes it super handy. It is a shame that the software itself bottlenecks your creativity. PS: I remember this shortfilm from a few years ago, called Coffee Run, nicely animated by Bomper Studio. But as you can see, it is only one character (even though is a super complex rig and animation, super talented studio)

Oh wow!! I just finished Subnautica yesterday!! Easily, the best survival game! What a great experience! And fantastic shortfilm! Great work π !!
