  1. Wow! What a fantastic job Hobbyist. Makes me want to see more. I was hoping it would land and a little alien would pop out, but what you have looks awesome. Did you make the background stars/nebula or is it an image? I can never seem to make space look like space, but I even noticed a little motion blur to the stars at the beginning. Great job!
  2. Looks like the real thing! Great work!

I don't what the OP had in mind, but one thought is a 15-30 commercial of a make believe product. Just a thought.

    Cyberpunk 2077

I jumped into this as a hobby several years ago without realizing this. I have much greater appreciation for the people that do this for any profession (movies, games, architecture, etc.) If you try and explain it to some people they look at you and go, "What's a poly?" Haha. Sorry, to sidetrack the thread. I think CP looks awesome, but I'll wait for a while as well.
  5. Thanks Srek. I appreciate your feedback. Hope you and your family enjoy the holidays!
  6. I know Cinebench tests the single threaded and multithreaded performance of the CPU, but I can't find anywhere that describes what tasks in C4d are multithreaded. I've seen posts stating that modeling, animating, and the native renderer are all CPU single threaded operations. I believe X Particles setup and animation is also single threaded, but I might be wrong. So, what part of C4d uses a multi-threaded CPU? Sculpting? Painting? The reason I ask, is I'm considering a new system and focusing more on a CPU with single threaded power, but I'd like to know what I'm limiting myself to. I'm going to have GPU's for Redshift rendering. Perhaps multi-threaded CPU power helps with GPU rendering? I don't think so, but I'm just curious.
  7. 3DArtist is still around I think. It had some inspirational content, but was rather expensive for the hardcopy version. But they did have an online version for around $5-$6 an issue. I didn't really care for the online version. It was the same as the hardcopy, but I didn't like reading it on my iPad. It's a much cheaper route though.
  8. Let's face it. MAXON doesn't care about whether a hobbyist is happy with their strategy or not, nor should they. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if MAXON created R23 solely to test the waters. They probably have a number of perpetual licenses they have to sell in order to make it worth creating R25 or whatever they want to call the next perp license. If they don't meet that number, no more perpetual licenses. So, I'm focused on the here and now. There is some cool stuff in R23 for $1000, but the new Nvidia 3080 is only $699. So, I'm thinking I can stay on R21 and get the new 3080. This way all my plugins still work too. Haha. Maybe a year from now R23 will be much less expensive if they've only sold a few. Who knows.
  9. Am I missing something or is there no upgrade price for the R23 perpetual license? Only the $3500 price for a new perpetual license. Hopefully, this is just an oversight.
  10. @3D-Pangel, I will not go to any subscription plan. As for C4D, R21 may be my last depending what MAXON does. As for Redshift, I'll use my current Redshift render for 2, 3, or 4 years and only buy a new one when its the last time they'll sell a permanent license or I really need a new feature. I just updated my maintenance for Substance Painter and Designer. Both expired in 2018 for my Indie licenses. My maintenance renewal allowed me to download the latest version of each and lasts until Apr 10, 2021. So I didn't have to pay for more than a year of maintenance that was never used. Of course I couldn't download any version that wasn't available before my maintenance expiration either. In my opinion, that is the way it should be. And they are permanent versions.
  11. There should be no reason for MAXON or Redshift to charge for the months not used. They did absolutely NOTHING during these months that I should pay for. But the way it is set up if my maintenance ends in Feb 2020 and I decided to renew in Jan 2021, it means I pay for a month of service because in Feb 2021 I have to pay again. Instead it should go from renewal date forward. I don't care if it was clearly spelled out in the licensing. Its a sham!!!! Shame on these companies! And subscriptions aren't the answer. If I want to use Redshift just one day this month, I have to pay for 30 days, which means I'm still filling your wallet for nothing. No thanks
  12. I purchased Redshift in Feb 2019. I like it a lot but with all that's been going on forgot about extending my maintenance which came due Feb 14, 2020. I visited the sight to see how many versions behind I was and what was in the new versions. I thought I'd check to see how much it would cast to extend my maintenance plan and its half the price of buying it outright. What gets me is that if I extend my maintenance now, it starts from Feb 14, 2020 even though I haven't used any maintenance between Feb 14 until now, so what the heck am I paying for? So if I wait and renew in August, my next renewal date is still Feb 14, 2021. This is just money grabbing to me. I guess I'll do my best to refrain from giving this company any more of my money. Am I missing something here? Why would I pay for months that I couldn't even get the latest version. Screw'em
  13. Welcome and what nice work. Very inspirational.
  14. I'm also a hobbyist who didn't pirate the software. I really like C4D, but agree with you about the price. I'm not sure how long I'll be able to afford the upgrades. Bottom line 1. Don't penalize people for missing an upgrade. For goodness sake, be glad they're coming back! 2. Reduce the prices for hobbyists. I make nothing on anything I've produced. Usually, because it isn't that good. Lol. But those that make less than 50 or 100k would really appreciate the break too. 3. Please don't do away with the perpetual license. I never upgraded Photoshop since they went to a subscription, even though a friend boasts how wonderful it is. I won't even buy Houdini at 200+ a year because its subscription based. Thanks for listening.
  15. I purchased my MSA in August as well and haven't received an email providing a link to download R20 either, so you are not alone.
  16. So does this mean if I purchased the R19 upgrade back in May, I've lost out on the savings?
  17. I haven't had time to test this out, but have you tried using the attractor and flocker modifiers? This little tutorial might get you started. https://www.linkedin.com/learning/x-particles-3-for-cinema-4d-essential-training/using-the-attractor-to-make-particles-attract
  18. Finally, clean wires and no triangles. Next step is making a candle for inside.
  19. BTW... is there something in C4D that counts triangles and polys in an object? When I use OpenGL statistics the hud displays 132 triangles, 12 quads and 67 lines when I add a cube to an empty scene. When I deselect the cube so no objects are selected, the hud displays 12 triangles, 6 quads and 37 lines. I'm looking for something that would tell me I have 0 triangles, 6 quads and 12 lines when my cube is selected. Does anything like that exist in C4D?
  20. Thanks very much for your feedback. Many of the tri's in the model are actually 4 point triangles, which weren't easy to see in the original attachment. Although I may have missed a few. Which brings me to my first question. Is there a way for C4D to tell me the total number of triangles in an object? I used shift+V and selected statistics on the HUD tab but no matter which object I select it says the polys are 13 and the triangles are 180,000+. Something isn't right. lol. Also when I was examining the design closer I noticed I have small polys and tris at the tip. I'm sure this is from my beveling. I'm going to have to fix this. I've had no formal training and my modeling skills are definitely on the lower end right now. So I want to make sure I understand your comment about extraneous bevels. Are you saying I should use control loops like in number 1 of my second attachment or a bevel like in number 3, but not use both as I've done in number 2? I did not use a bevel deformer or a tag in my model or with the cubes. I selected the edge loops and beveled them. And you are probably correct that I have unnecessary bevels in the roof of the lantern. The roof isn't exactly as my reference. I made a mistake. I've been trying to convince myself that my version looks better so I didn't have to redo it. Dang it. Thanks again. This is how I learn, I appreciate you taking the time.
  21. I've been working on this for a little while. Kind of first real model in C4D that I want to take all the way through to texturing, lighting and rendering. The lantern is all sub-d and nearly all quads. I still want to add a candle and flame within. Not too excited about the cap on top. It kind of looks like something else. LOL Feedback is welcome. thanks
