ArtStation - Andre Pelaes David I thought this was a sleek looking ship that would be easy to model. Haha. Thanks, I'm glad you're enjoying my pain. Lol. I just thought I'd thank you and let everyone know, I haven't given up yet. Just other things taking priority. I'm pretty determined to complete this model one way or another.
  2. Thanks for all the feedback and examples. I reworked the mesh this morning before seeing your insomnia post and thought I'd share what I did to show the poly flow and leading edge. I'm not sure if I did the best job in removing the complex poles on the leading edge or not. I did so by adding a column of polys around the wing. I noticed you didn't do that, but I couldn't see if you removed those poles on the leading edge or not. I'll continue work on the exhaust. Your solution is what I was going for. I had done something similar for the orange and green lines, but got really messy with the interior because I didn't plan out the first part well. Thanks again for the breakdown.
  3. Dang it, if it wasn't for Cerbera, I'd be done with this model by now. It wouldn't be any good, but I'd be done. Haha. I must have reworked this wing half dozen times now and it still isn't right. After reworking 3-4 times with a lot of point moving and such, I finally sat down and watched a couple hours of modeling lessons. That really helped. I went back and attacked this with a completely different approach. I got the basic wing done in about 20 minutes, with what I think was pretty good poly flow. The cone taper stumped me for some time and I finally put a cone in that section and moved points until the polys lined up with the cone. I know there is a better way, I just don't know what it is. The rear edge is still quite thick and whenever I try to taper the top of the wing from front to back so the rear edge is thinner, I get bumps on the top polys near the rounded engine compartment. I'm also not sure I'll be able to connect the wing to the nose section, which means I'll probably have to start from scratch at least one more time. I also know that I have a couple of complex poles on the leading edge of the wing. I'm not sure what to do about those. The back engine exhaust is messy because I only have the one reference image. So, I have to make it the way I think it might be. This exhaust section also makes it difficult to then the rear edge in the way I'd like to. Once the wing is good, I had planned to extend it to complete the body of the ship. Before I do that, I'll watch some more lessons. I don't know why it's so difficult for me to think this through. I never expected this model to take this long. Lol. It looked so simple. I uploaded a project file with several iterations and annotations on each so that you might see my progression. I really appreciate any feedback, even if it is to say; "Just give up, you're not meant to model". Lol. ship_wing_progress.c4d
  4. Thanks much Cerbera. I knew that wing didn't look right, but I didn't investigate it because it looked cool when in subd. Lol. Dang it. I'm sure I can figure out how to make that better. I'm not sure I understand what you're referring to as a secondary flow in the reference. Oh, are you referring to the portions of the front that look indented in the reference image? Yeah, I'm not exactly sure how or when I should be addressing those. I guess now is as good a time as any. I appreciate the suggestions and will try to address them before moving on. Thanks
  5. I don't usually do well modeling, but I'm feeling pretty good with this one so far, even though I'm not making it exactly like the reference image. However, I would like feedback on my poly flow and anything that looks like it could cause problems if not fixed before moving forward. I'm not entirely happy with the cockpit or the polys in front of the cockpit. I tried to keep a good poly flow, but the polys there seem kind of pinched or bumpy and the cockpit doesn't round well in front either. I'm still working on figuring out how to handle that. I'll probably also redo behind the cockpit to make that area more like the reference picture. I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to handle the engines inside the wings yet. I thought I should probably model them as separate objects and insert them inside the wing and then modify the inner wing polys where necessary to 'mount' the engines. I open to suggestions in regards to this as well. Anyway, I uploaded the project so you can get a good look at the model. I figure that would be the best way for me to learn.   6. It looks like you were correct, but now that OToy posted their black friday deal, I'm really confused. Lol. There deal looks great if I understand it correctly. I think you can get Octane along with Embergen, Kitbash, GrayscaleGorrila+ and more via any of the Octane subscriptions along with any DCC plug-in. But when I attempted to download a trial version of Octane X for Cinema, it only offered a Mac OS version. They had only a window version for Blender and Daz, which seems strange. I found demo version 2020.2.5 R2 that worked for Windows and C4d S24, but I was kind of curious if they have a version that works with C4d R25. I tried they S24 version via R25 and it wouldn't recognize it. I haven't found anything on the OToy site yet that says if its supposed to work with R25.

  9. I like having the ability to release the license via the my.maxon web account. But it seems like in addition to this, there could be a default switch under preferences that allowed the user to set which way C4d handles the license when the application is closed. And you could still provide the File menu options which would always override the default switch. I don't know, maybe that's too complex for your license handling. Just thought I would throw this out there.
  10. @3D-Pangel Since I switched to subscriptions I've lost touch with what it costs for a perpetual license upgrade, but you stated that you have to pay 32% more than subscriptions. This puts the price about where I thought it was for a perpetual upgrade which is between $1200-1500. This is still less than a subscription price of $932 every year, considering each perpetual release contains the last S version and the new R version. I understand the other issues about content access, support and cineversity. In fact, I don't know why Maxon doesn't just open Cineversity to everyone. Most everything in there can eventually be found on youtube.
  11. Maybe it's because its an 'R' release and if there are few perpetual licenses purchased, it gives a good reason 'on paper' not to have another R release.
  12. Wow. Sorry, I'm more impressed with the wires than the interface. Haha. Beautiful! Of course, you knew that already. There are some very good changes with the interface that will make things more comfortable after getting used to it.
  13. I don't understand this either. What is Maxon basing these changes on? Did they get tons of complaints about the interface and workflow from their largest clients? It had to come from somewhere. Its pretty but I have to look for everything. Haha
  14. I'm not clear about 3DCoat and Textura. Does 3dCoat 2021 contain Textura? Or is Textura a paired down version of 3dCoat? Or is Textura separate software used with 3dCoat? I must confuse easily. Haha
  15. I understand your viewpoint and I agree with your assessment about the C4d perpetual licenses. I can't believe I completely missed the Maxon spring sale, but I don't know if I could have purchased the next subscription at 30% off or not. Guess I'll have to wait until next year to find out. Subscriptions are made for big companies, not for small sole proprietorships or hobbyists. It also makes sense for Maxon. The big company subscription holders have to renew their subscriptions, even if they don't like the features add by Maxon because they're tied to the software. I think most big companies require a few years to change over to another package, so as long as Maxon delivers every other year or every 3rd year, they probably won't lose their big customers. It would still be nice if Maxon had an Indie license for C4d and Redshift for those small companies and hobbyists that have been loyal over the years. I used to really be against subscriptions because I'm a hobbyist as I think you are. But I decided to get the C4d + Redshift subscription and move forward. I figured when I get tired of 3d, I'll be done with it and won't need to tinker. If I have an uncontrollable urge to do so, then I'll pull out R20 or Lightwave 11 and scratch the itch. But for now, I'll just keep plugging away until I run out of money (can't take it with you) or I get sick of 3d.
  16. I stand corrected, but I'm curious. This doesn't look like you're offering any discount to existing customers, only new licenses. So if I'm subscription holder, I wouldn't get the discount.
  17. I'm sorry, but I just haven't noticed that increase in price. Perhaps because I buy during the sales. And I'm not sure Fuse is only subscription. Insydium shows a Fused Maintenance plan for $262.80 and an annual subscription for $508.08. Since I was on a perpetual X-particles maintenance plan before switching to Fused, I'm pretty sure I'll be able to purchase the Fused Maintenance Plan and still be perpetual. Maybe not, but its too late now.
  18. I hope Maxon never buys Insydium. Insydium has always offered it's customers a decent price for what they provide. And to top that off, they usually have a 30% off sale in the spring and a 50% off on Black Friday. When has Maxon EVER offered a discount? Insydium is doing just fine on their own and I hope they stay that way.
  19. I don't know if this will help or not. But I switched and my old x-particle projects work fine. All I did was paste the Insydium folder where I keep my plugins and set my preference plugin to that location. I unchecked the previous x-particles path. When I restarted C4d my old Cycles was still on the menu and there was a new Insydium menu item that contained the new x-particles and cycles. Of course going into x-particles there were the submenus for generators, modifiers, etc. Also, you might want to go to your account page and click the Show Me button under get License and then copy to clipboard. I did this and pasted it into a support message and worked fine. My problem is that I'm trying to download the Cycles material packages and its only downloading at 25 mbps, but when I test my download speed with speed test, its 500+ mbps. I wonder if anyone else in the states is having this issue. I hope some of the info I provided can help.

  21. I'm looking at their site right now and I don't see an upgrade path from xParticles to Fuse at all. I also noticed a bunch of the maintenance training videos are no longer accessible. In fact, numerous training videos are gone and there is a statement 'only available with Fuse'. I think I may have to switch my hobby to golf or auto racing. I think it would be cheaper.

  25. I don't think they're providing any more maintenance extensions on perpetual licenses any longer are they? So, that means no more upgrades unless you go subscription. So sad, but at least there is pretty good functionality in the last version of the perpetual. I have the perpetual also.
