  1. Thanks. I will read up on the blending modes. The puzzle matte is more what I think I need. As for overcomplicating, I do that a lot. Haha. I guess that's my thing. I appreciate your response. I think this will get me on the right track again. Have a great day!
  2. I'm missing some basic understanding that I'm certain many of you out there know. I created a simple scene to demonstrate my problem. The first image was rendered out in C4d and is just an all-inclusive beauty pass. However, if I put this image in AE and want to change something specific to the ball, cone, or cube without affecting the wall, floor or companion objects, I cannot. So, I thought I could render out each object separately and then composite them in AE so I could adjust each object uniquely. I used a normal blend on the wall/floor and set the ball, cone and cube to use the Add blending mode. However, when I do this, they become transparent as shown in the second image. This is probably how it should work, but I'm at a loss on how to do what I want to do. How do I have independent control over the ball, cone and cube without them being transparent? I've rendered out images as PS and PNG and both have the same outcome. What am I missing? thanks Randy
  3. Take a look at this video around the 15 minute mark. Elly explains how she does backgrounds, which might help you out.
  4. Very nice Eric. Always enjoy seeing works that inspire. 🙂
  5. Actually, it depends on the angle, I guess. Convex vs concave.
  6. Dang it. I hate it when that error occurs. Haha. So, if it had been flat, then no problem. Thanks.
  7. Maybe I've forgotten how to do things again, but isn't the point supposed to remain when you use either Dissolve or Melt? As you can see there are 4 polys connected by one point (within red circle). When I select the edge shown, using Dissolve or Melt, the polys do not stay connected. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? Thanks before after Dissolve_melt.c4d
  8. Very nice and a lot of work I'm sure. Congratulations on being nominated. Just curious, how many short story animations have you created now? I've seen several over the past few years.
  9. I would highly recommend a look into Puget Systems. They have pre-configured systems for rendering or modeling and you can customizer your own or start with a pre-configured and modify them. My last two systems are from them and if you follow Grayscalegorrilla, both have relatively new systems from Puget Systems.
  10. LOL. Thanks! I've actually been to this page before, but for some reason did not follow the link this time. I don't know why, but I kept skipping right past the link labeled Help. 😕 I do appreciate you taking the time to point this out. Since you made it so explicit, I shouldn't have a problem recalling this in the future. Thanks
  11. Vent warning: I'm old and out of touch with the way things are today, but I really don't like the way companies provide support anymore or the lack thereof. I still haven't gotten Insydium's Fused plugin to load in C4d 2023. I can’t find hardly any info on the Internet regarding whether the plugin loads or not. (Edit: I found one post on Reddit.com that two people had the same issue, but the moderator removed the post for some reason.) The ONLY thing I’ve seen was within my Insydium account, which states that if you have trouble loading the plugin on a Windows system, try installing several C++ redistributable, which I did, but with no change in result. I looked around the Insydium site and they seemed to have removed any way to contact them for help. They have a link to Discord, but Discord is worthless to me. I don’t see how anyone can use that site for support. What happened to companies providing support for what they make??? Since I’m apparently on my own, I thought maybe the problem is with my 2023 installation. After all, I did get an install error the first time trying to install it via the Maxon App. However, the second attempt completed installation properly. Using the Maxon App, I tried to uninstall C4d 2023 and wouldn't you know it, it gives me an error, saying something went wrong and it can't be uninstalled. I tried several times, but still a no go. I figured since these licenses aren’t cheap, let me call Maxon and find out if there is something I should check. But when I select 2 for technical support, it just says go to the web site and research our knowledge base or open a ticket -- Goodbye. Wonderfully dismissive. But at least I can submit a ticket. That's a 100% better than Insydium who doesn’t care at all. How can you charge hundreds of dollars for something and say if it doesn't work, ask someone else. Don't come back to me. But that seems to be exactly where we're headed and have been for a while.
  12. Anyone else have a problem with 2023 recognizing the Insydium plugin? I haven't found anything stating that it doesn't work with 2023, which is why I'm asking. Thanks
  13. Yes, you are correct. However, I was referring to a scene in Unreal Engine 5 and that camera. I guess I didn't make that very clear, sorry about that. But you did make me think of another possibility. If I did the animation in C4d and ported it to UE 5, it may retain the positioning. I'll have to try that. But for now, I've just decided to animate the aircraft using the camera's key frames in Unreal. But thanks for your feedback.
  14. Just wondering if anyone can help with this. I have an animation scene created in UE 5. The setup is simple. One camera is moving across the surface of a plane as though it is an aircraft flying low above the ground. This part is all good. But I thought it would be nice to have the camera view from within the cockpit of the aircraft while it flew over the surface. So, I positioned the aircraft over the camera, so the camera shoots the scene from within the cockpit. The way I get the aircraft to move with the camera is by placing the aircraft as a child of the camera within the outliner window. When I play the animation preview, it works perfectly. The camera view is from within the cockpit, and it can see the nose of the aircraft as we fly above the land. Perfect! But now things get strange. If I click Save, the aircraft object is immediately removed from the child position of the camera. Or if I render the scene, the same thing happens. The aircraft is removed as a child of the camera and the scene renders without the view from within the aircraft. Basically, the camera flies right through the canopy. I don't know why this is happening because the parent/child relationship stays intact during repetitive preview runs of the animation. Any help would be appreciated. You can try the same thing with a cube that is positioned slightly below a camera. Thanks
  15. Pretty good. Now you can transfer that to C4d. I made these years ago. If you did the same, you could build your horse. 🙂
  16. Wow, I'm very surprised, thanks very much. I thought several of dast's entries were great, but the game controller was superb! And MJV was quite resourceful with the chips and the rose. I'd have never thought of using one poly the way he did. That was really awesome in both submissions. There were many others that were quite good as well and the competition was fun and challenging. Thanks to the sponsor, whomever they are and to Igor, it was a challenge that made you plan and think. I'm looking forward to more.
  17. Yeah, I liked the size of this challenge. I'm definitely not a great modeler, but with 99 polies I found out within 30-60 minutes if I'm on the wrong path and whether or not I have to look for another object to model. It was fun and it didn't require hours and hours of modeling.
  18. Hi folks, I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the competition and seeing all the great entries! I thought it was a great challenge and wanted to say good luck to all my competitors. 🙂
  19. Earth rise - Earth 12 polys - Clouds 12 polys - moon 1 poly - window 72 polys. So how about an entire scene using 97 polys. 🙂 earth_rise_00.c4d

  21. Yes, I can still use the old material. I just would like to know how to achieve the same affect without using the C4d Shader. My attempts to do so haven't worked out yet, which can be seen in the image and project I attached. I think I should be able to use the gradient, but I haven't figured out how to incorporate it properly yet.
  22. I was wondering if I could get a little bit of help from someone. My old Redshift material used a C4D shader to create a wound guitar string shown on top. But with the new RS material system I haven't found a way to use the C4d shader node. In fact, I can't even find that shader node anymore. So, I've attached a simple project and image that shows two strings. One with the old material and one where I tried to recreate it using the new material, but was unsuccessful. Would anyone mind providing me a way to do this using the new material? Its not a critical thing, but something I'd like to learn just the same. Thanks redshift texturing.c4d
  23. I've had a lot of fun with this challenge, but this is probably my last submission unless something sparks me to do another. I've probably got half a dozen or so models started that exceeded 99 polys and I had to set aside for now. I certainly enjoyed making the successful ones though. I created a bow loosely based on a World of Warcraft bow. I mean you can only go so far with 99 polys. 🙂 But I hope you like it along with the render. I took a little extra time to make the arrows and rack (not part of the submission, but part of the render). low_poly_bow.c4d
