Thread for reporting/resolving issues with C4D S26
Babumbol replied to HappyPolygon's topic in Discussions
And I thought "wow, he is still polite in his tone". But indeed persistent. And the latter is a matter of his point-of-view. Devs have a very different view on stuff than users. But in the end, we have to work with it. And I would agree with Thanulee on this. The cloth behaves rather weird in conjunction with turbulence. Maybe you could share some setups, where we can see how this works out well? That would be really great! -
1. The feature nobody expected, and nobody wants: Blockchain rendering and a colorful "publish to NFT" button 2. The feature they've sneakily removed without telling anyone: Every module they left dprecated for over X years* *) first i thought of a pratical slider or red highlights opposed to the yellow ones - but this would be a feature again.

Chaos Corona 8 for 3ds Max and Cinema 4D Now Available
Babumbol replied to Heidi Lowell's topic in News
Yeah, did some animations with corona, too, but we are switiching slowly to octane. corona is easy to learn and creates instantly good looking visuals. but we had lot's of problems with motion blur, teamrender, texture paths with dropbox/subs (remote work due to corona). Here some examples: With Character Animation Some basic x-particles stuff (particles as trails) Aaaand in my opinion it doesn't render anisotropy correctly: (Look at the saw blade) Crap, did someone press buttons in the forum? I only copied links, now I see the videos embedded? -
I want a "Cancel"-Button for operations with longer-than-1-minute-computing time. Especially with those generators. Sometimes C4D crawls to a halt while I didn't even thought about maybe hitting the invisible wall.

Ah, yes, I forgot my personal wishlist: - Stability - Stability - Stability - Bugfixes - Performance - Stop breaking plugin compatibility - Inbuilt converter of pre-R19 files

I wouldn't recommend to jump ship altogther at all. If your current workflow solution gets rusty over time, try to adjust slowly. With Cinema 4D this was easy via plugins. Over the last year more and more parts of Cinema rusted too long. So it's only natural that people switch from one main 3D app to another. But this takes time and shouldn't be rushed. Getting to know a new software is easy & fast. Mastering a new software takes time. Long story short: Get used to it. The more the people like their old rusty tool, the louder they complain 😉

Don't make me cry.

Funnilly Part 2 of the tutorial got only around 328.000 views.

Yeah, maybe you're right. I don't know if a 3rd-party-render-engine can crash Cinema while it's not used in any form in a scene, but I suspected this, too. Unfortunately Cinema 4D is pretty useless without a 3rd-party-render-engine. But back to your main point: Yes, the character improvements are very cool, indeed. PS: With lightweight scenes and only one character on screen everything was pretty smooth. But as soon als two complex characters were on screen - and at some point I had to animate a bunch of six characters interacting with each other - it got pretty shaky, whereas the older versions remaind stable.
-
Yep, definitely. But I didn't mentioned it because of severe instability. We had a relatively big project with character animations, done in R23. The tools were great, but otherwise the project was an absolut nightmare. Constant crashes, all-day-long. And we where already animating in small parts, baking what-possible in alembic files, to get the stuff rendered. And I don't need - I don't WANT - releases every half a year (especially if they change lot's of good stuff without reason to the bad). Why should I? Give me stability upgrades all-year-long, and make a release, when it's worth it.

Jep. Everones right, they're stalling it. I just wanted to play nice on this one.

Isn't Insydium a company bases in england? maybe they slept, while you posted 🙂

Dunno. Had to rebrand some Robot-Stuff last week and NURBs Modeling came in quite handy. Nothing to deform, no UV-Maps needed. So why not? Besides that: Try MOI3Ds Polygonexport with N-Gons. The NURBS->Polygon results are the best I've ever seen.
-
From the list of features, they read like Lightwave 5.6 UV tools. But I bet they are great. Lightwaves UV tools where great. Anyway, .Cerbera nearly got me. Maybe I'll give R267 a try. Just for the fun of it 🙂

plus crashes/instability and license hassle. -- Besides that, yeah, there are lot's of minor improvements. Stuff you don't remember when it changed, so hard to make a list. But they are the good ones. Will any of those new big features help you? I don't know. For me, UV improvements are useless in C4D. I long stopped trying to do anything UV related in C4D. Viewport improvements: Fancy stuff, not faster. Not usable with 3rd-party-render-materials. Node Materials the same. GUI looks horrible, misses stuff, costs lot's of time to learn, doesn't speed up workflows. Tracking - who tracks stuff in C4D? Asset Browser is pretty useless in multi-user-environments. Magic Bullet Looks - who ever uses Post-Lens-Effects on final Renderings will get fired! List goes on ...

Tessellation-Free Displacement Mapping for Ray Tracing
Babumbol replied to HappyPolygon's topic in News
Isn't it mostly the Substance Team, now in Adobes clutches? This should answer some of your questions: It's from Adobe, for Adobe (Substance Suite). Most propalby as limited as Adobe can limit. -
Totally agree on that. But these are skills necessary in almost every job. Only in most jobs, it's easier to hide the lack of troubleshooting skills. Nonetheless, I take it as "must". And regarding shortcuts: Yeah, I changed and added a lot of them, too. And the User Interface of course. Who uses the default shortcuts/interface anyway? 😉
-
I always thought it's only H to frame geometry (but maybe I changed a shortcut and forgot about it). Anyway, as being-not-a-trainer. I strongly suggest NOT to use H in komplex scenes. As C4D most propably will lag one or two seconds before framing said geometry. Know your scene, know your objects, etc. But they won't teach you stuff like that in school 😉 Besides that: YES use shortcuts as often as possible. It's what seperates the professional from the hobbyist in 100% of all cases. Because shortcuts safe time, and time is of the essence, when getting paid for output.

+1 In my opinion, the most important aspect for the main DCC app is stability. And it was the main reason I switched to C4D.

Announcement Maxon Announces an Agreement to Acquire ZBrush
Babumbol replied to HappyPolygon's topic in Discussions
Dunno what to make of it. Maybe Twitter needs the option to dislike posts? 😉 -
Try to animate komplex characters in C4D fluidly and you know why.
-
Yeah, maybe Modo evoled a bit in some areas during the latest 11 release cycles. I know, this seems odd, thinking about C4Ds evolution in the same time period... 😉
-
Maybe you should give it a try. Modo is very good and fast in more than modeling. rigging and animation are thought out well, the renderer isn't bad either (miles ahead of cinemas). Although it's scene and materials management isn't as good as cinemas.
-
Well, in my opinion, Srek is doing a really good job on the forums, communicating with people, even on the difficult topics. And I write this, despite not always being of the same mind.

Yesterday I fired up R25 the first time, because - why not? Felt very foreign. Started Blender the first time, instead. Really nice UI. But, man, the icons! Total rippoff from Cinema... 😉 ... Some look like copy/paste work.
