  1. As no-one else has responded - unless by PM... The person that comes to my mind is https://chriscousins.myportfolio.com/ He's based in the UK like myself - so that maybe too remote for you. However, I do recall him doing some drapery work (Houdini) that looked very good: https://chriscousins.myportfolio.com/queen-adam-lambert-drapes He's a top man IMO.
  2. Sounds like a Houdini or Marvelous Designer job to me : ) Trying to do something realistic with C4D cloth.... other than a table cloth... ummm...
  3. I've never really investigated 3D-Coat... looks dang impressive in that video. The guys and girls in Friedrichsdorf had better get a move on...
  4. Guys - just a bit of a heads up in case you're not aware of this: Blackmagic Design have a good deal on (IMO) if you're interested in buying Davinci Resolve Studio (Editing, Color, Audio) or Fusion Studio (Excellent for 3D CGI nodal based Compositing). There is a free version of Resolve - but these are the full "Studio" versions. If you search for 'DaVinci Resolve activation card with Speed editor' you should find it. There are two versions of the deal - either with an activation card - ie: a printed serial number, or alternatively, with a USB dongle. The deal bundles a free 'Speed Editor' mini keyboard - basically a jog wheel with editing keys. Plus - with version 17 - the one licence key gives you both Resolve Studio *AND* Fusion Studio. £225 / $295 or thereabouts. It's a steal IMHO. This deal has been on for a while. I'm not aware of a closing date, but if you're interested I wouldn't delay.
  5. OK, so I got a reply: To their credit the ELUA is straightforward and seems reasonable to me. I had a brief email exchange with Insydium to clarify a few matters - which ended with this: As an X-particles - but not Cycles - user, it looks a good offer to me: X-particles remains perpetual and Fused add-ons are the benefit for staying in maintenance. But having said that, if you plan to continue to update / maintain X-particles in the future it isn't really an offer at all. You don't have any choice. On the other hand, if you're a Cycles only user... I feel your pain.
  6. I think it's very poor that Insydium are asking users to convert licences - from perpetual to 'Fused' - without informing users of the exact terms of the licence they're agreeing to. I've asked them to send me a copy of the Fused EULA... I'll see what the response is...

    INSYDIUM TerraformFX

I was pretty deeply involved with the beta testing of Terraform (T4D) before it was sold to Insydium. I'm looking forward to seeing what they've done with it. Yes the competition is steep in landscape generation tools - DEM Earth, Worldcreator, Gaea, Houdini, etc etc. but to be fair I think T4D has it's niche. It's a lower cost, simpler product that can build 'realistic enough' landscapes quickly and easily. It integrates perfectly with C4D features such as fields and It's very art directable. The one key area it was missing was hydraulic erosion. I'll be interested to see how well the Insydium system works.

    R25 Expectations

    A render engine : )
  9. Everyone brings a smile - great work : )
  10. Amazing stuff - done by some very, very clever people...
  11. TBH Igor - I hadn't even NOTICED the subforum links!! - QED.
  12. Hi Igor, Good work on the new forums etc. One little bit of feedback: personally I don't think the forum 'tab names' - eg: Modelling, Rigging, Render etc etc - are quite visually dominant enough. In fact I think a new user could actually scroll downwards through the site and almost and miss them! Therefore just wondering if these should be a little more obvious in some way. Thanks for all your work!
  13. Thanks for the tips - all really helpful and noted. Funnily enough I'm a strong advocate for real scale modelling - I do a lot of technical visualisation. Here I was just playing around - trying out the curves etc - and of course, before you know it you end up with a vase... : )
  14. ...if you are a freelancer working solo (eg: not as a cog in a bigger machine) it's a steal TBH.
  15. Umm... Not sure what the issue is - apart from it definitely being 'user error' ! I can get the bump - but I get a faceted object - like there was no poly smoothing. It might be lighting / shadow related possibly. A Normal map works fine, displacement also works fine. I couldn't get any of the VEX builder nodes to work - the shader was looking for a texture string input, but all the relevant texture / bump nodes only seemed to offer colour / float / vector. Anyway - onwards and upwards.
  16. 18.5.532 - I downloaded a new version earlier today.
  17. If I have to send a new file, is that a hip replacement? 😀
  18. I'm playing with Apprentice - can you read that? (PS: Uploaded here on the basis no one steals this for their Foundation NFT page! ) LOL! vase_01.hipnc I didn't include the bump map - you can thrown in anything you have to hand.
  19. OK - Houdini experts ; ) you can help me out here... I have your class 101 object - a revolved vase. It has the 'clay' material applied. I want to add a bump map, but when I do I loose the underlying phong smoothing of the vase. How do I set up a bump on a smoothed base?
  20. A sad + 1 from me. And I do have to say that I very much agree with Flima. Selling a $3,500 software and effectively supporting it with bug fixes for just a month or two (until SP1) is unacceptable. A perpetual purchaser / upgrader should be entitled to at least 2 or 3 bug fix rounds IMO - a minimum of 12 months active bug fixing support.
  21. Seriously... have a word with Rick : )
  22. He won't get a Treeshirt !! 'Keep it positive...' LOL! PS: Could someone call the makeup and presentation skills department for Mr McGavran please...
  23. As I wrote elsewhere: Next time: Fiverr. Same quality, lower cost : )
  24. I assume you guys can see where this is going... I'm placing a bet that R25 will see the introduction of the C4D asset store : ) I hope it isn't subscription only ; ) - stop paying and your sofa/chair/bathtub/lamp/bookcase disappears from your scene LOL!
