The task in this thread relates to some some work I do myself, so I had a couple of hours free this morning and I thought I'd see if I could come up with a basic multi-level patchwork generator in Houdini. It could certainly have a more efficient network and could certainly have lots of refinements, but for a first prototype I thought it was a promising result!
There's easy interactive control of the proportions of large, medium and small areas, their relative sizes and random seeds.
