    Slowdown

You might find this to be an interesting read - relevant to Cairyn's solution. Wearing another hat I train people in After Effects and there are similar issues 'keyframing speed' in that. Dan Ebberts explains all... https://www.motionscript.com/articles/speed-control.html
  4. Happy new year to all! Here's hoping '22 is a good one : )
  5. It was BIG. In fact it was almost BIGLY BIG. Forfeit your £3,600 licence for about £290. BIG DISCOUNT.
  6. On the gun: the volumetric shape was first modelled from photo reference. The hot areas were illuminated with visible lights(s) inside. For the afterburners: the volume had varying density and noise to show the 'mach discs' - those brighter areas in the efflux. That varying density and noise was all controlled with fields. IIRC I used an emissive material for the illumination. The cloud was just a quick test. Redshift is pretty good and v fast with volumes, but needs some improvement on the technical aspects of light scattering in volumes to make things such as clouds more realistic. They are currently working on it, but It's a major job I believe.
  7. Yep - I use fog volumes quite a lot with Redshift. You can do some really powerful manipulation with fields. Here are a couple of examples from jobs I've done - the cloud is just a quick and dirty test:
  8. Just be aware: If a user has converted their licence to subscription, the original perpetual licence is no longer valid. There may of course be people with a valid (un-converted) perpetual licence who might be willing to sell. I'm assuming Maxon are still willing to transfer perpetual licences, but you'd be well advised to check.
  9. Interesting to read that Twitter response from Per-Anders Edwards. How times change.
  10. Don't worry guys - the next version of Z brush will be great - it will just have half the icons missing... 🤣

    Software sale

If you guys want a real blast from the past... check this out. Shot in 2008 I believe. The day of the floppy disk was long gone - 1.44 MB per disk : ). It was time to throw all those disks hanging out in the back of the cupboard away. I hesitate to think how much they originally cost. I piled them all up before they hit the bin... God, I'm old.
  12. I love the painterly feel and mood in this. Great job : )
  13. I'd second Cairyn's comment. A new Jed video always get a watch from me : )
  14. Yes, I thought that 'Blender is...' video was quite inspiring. Much more so than your typical corporate software demo reel.
  15. What about a simple two-state pose morph which could be range mapped to the vertical position of the actuator with a bit of Xpresso?
  16. Yes, I saw this video a little while ago. I thought they made a very decent attempt at it, but I also agree with much of what has already been said here: * It's almost an impossible task to do fairly. * There's the speed of rendering and the speed / effort of 'set up' to consider. * Speed is everything: if you have 10,000 frames to render and a tight deadline. * Speed is nothing: if you've spent two weeks modelling, texturing and setting up a single still image and now need to render it. * Who cares about speed? What about the looks! * etc. : ) Bottom line: What a toolset! I started doing 3D when the thought of calculating any form of global illumination - even for a still image - was a pipe dream... Take your pick from a fantastic group of renderers.
  17. Well, it's been awhile but Maxon support eventually responded to my ticket - dated 23 October - yesterday, the 17th November.... Quote: "I'm really sorry for the late answer. Unfortunately your ticket get lost in our system and just appeared today in our support group." Ummm... OK. Glad it wasn't urgent... Anyway, credit where credit is due... they did send me direct download links to the installers that were in my ePortfolio: R18, R19 and R20 - and copies of the final serial number documentation for each.
  18. Enjoyable images with character - thanks for posting them.
  19. No response whatsoever to my ticket - which is currently 6 days old and remains open. (I'm in the UK so support may be handled by a different office to others.)
  20. Very cool and inspiring design - thanks for listing these. We've come a long way since typing HTML in notepad : )
  21. Maybe we're both being blacklisted - I haven't heard either : ) I did note there was a banner on the support page. Something like: we're very busy at the moment, it may take up to three days etc. Don't you just hate those 'we really value your call... you're number 165 in the queue...' phone messages? Well, C4D support seems to have taken up the same approach. Another benefit of the subscription move I guess... : )
  22. Noted. I was really just looking it up to confirm the version when the format change was made.
  23. To be fair it's not always (often?) the fault of the VFX studio. More often it's a case of time, budget, no one will notice... etc. A big job progresses well over weeks or months, then things start getting changed a few days before the deadline... and sacrifices have to be made... frustrating, but life : )
