  1. I'd be curious to see if Insydium is moving their tools into node territory over the next year or two. Maybe they'll release more on that if R26 does show at the 3D Motion Show next month!
  2. yeah with Blender so hotkey heavy it can be a mess sometimes trying to figure out the steps to do one thing. I started creating a Notion page of all of the hotkeys for the functions as I'd learn them, including any addons.
  3. Maybe try S then hit SHIFT-X immediately? You're basically scaling, and locking one axis. In my example below I locked the Z axis (S - Shift-Z). This may be a case where you are forced to use the old hotkeys.
  4. I saw this on FB, from Jules himself - Meshlets (AKA Nanite for Octane) - AI Neural Rendering Kernels. link to post here, with accompanying video. https://www.facebook.com/577284846/videos/546256256929213/
  5. You can try lazyviewport https://github.com/cgfasttrack/lazyviewport shown here: It gives you back the old G, R, S keys along with the standard tools for move, scale, rotate. I prefer not to use the Blender defaults because addons. Blender defaults are meant to be changed, especially with tools like Hops, MachineTools, MeshMachine, Gizmo Pro, Friendly Pivot, Schoolism menus, ACT, BlenderSensei Power Select, and so on. Make blender your own and adjust the hotkeys as you find more addons that can replace some of the questionable stuff in Blender. Still waiting for Blender to get dev money to fix their crappy outliner. At least let ME drag/sort my meshes in my "collection" like every other DCC ever in existence..... (only ONE example)
  6. They all have a price, unfortunately. Allegorithmic, Pixologic, Softimage, Alias|Wavefront, Redshift, Red Giant, Silicon Grail, Shake, etc.
  7. Funny thing is, Apple doesn't have to strive to be the "best" at 3D/gaming/XR. They just have to provide the appearance to customers they are. "This is our fastest XYZ thingie ever". People will buy it. They've done this for years with their iDevices and Macs. As long as the appearance is strong (in looks and in marketing), they'll continue to succeed. Their eventual unification of iOS and MacOS will only further solidify their success especially with seamless experiences across form factors and devices. It will happen, especially with the M series chips. I've never been an Apple fan, and absolutely hated the trashy and glitchy Mac Pros at work and my mac book pro. Iphones and ipads work great though. Apple will make that single OS probably within the next 3 years.

    Surface Detailing

Yeah it looks like a surface noise alpha or stamp in Zbrush.
  9. What's the point of jumping on a forum to complain about a company and its software and mention you are moving to new software? Just do it. After all.. it should be about the art and the enjoyment of its creation.. Also, Core4D already has "that guy"... someone who complains weekly about C4D and maxon. You're too late for that role. 🙂 Don't sing it.. bring it.
  10. Yes.. this is a great C4D initiative that is finally happening. It seems Maxon has invested quite a bit of time adding support for scene nodes behind the scenes. It's a shame that it hasn't really been shown too much by Maxon since its inception. Even now, most Maxon training centers around Redshift and Red Giant products for their live streams. Hopefully this project can have others, including within Maxon, help to further the future of Scene Nodes in C4D as they continue to grow into a more full fledged system, akin to Houdini.
  11. is it Magic Bullet Looks or color management settings being applied at the end?
  12. Nah... unless you update to a version of C4D with Scene Nodes, you can hang out on Erindale or someone else's Blender youtube channel to learn about Geonodes. This thread is specific to C4D scene nodes as it needs a kick in the ass.
  13. Autodesk initially went subscription claiming they could push out features more at a more frequent pace... drip drip drip. It didn't happen. They even had to skip a version year. All hell broke loose in the beta. I think Maxon may have said the same thing, but still on these 6 month(?) release cycles with patches in between to fix other patches. If this cycle holds true, they would be pushing for an April release? Obviously no one wants a R25 repeat, so if it takes longer than so be it. I would imagine shifting development to a more rapid pace takes time and more planning up front instead of the typical 1 or 2 years between releases that most companies enjoyed in the past. Milestones happen differently and more testing needs to be done. However, SideFX continues to stick to their solid development cycle and it has worked for them.
  14. So you're curious enough to stir the pot (again) even though you've talked ad nauseum in multiple threads how you've moved on from C4D and just *love* Blender, while bashing Maxon for being Adobe shills and their subscription policies. But you're curious... and yet not curious enough to download a demo.. but still curious... this is very curious indeed. BTW, your answers you seek are found in the previous threads where you brought up your old version of R20, the lack of updates YOU found appealing enough to purchase, and ultimately how bad subscriptions are. I'm surprised you don't remember all of these previous conversations. It's a joy to revisit them again, from a philosophical and curious mindset of course!!!! 🙂

    X particles goes GPU

More interested when they'll push into the Node Editor with XP. I'm assuming more has to be done by Maxon to allow more data to flow into the Node Editor and make it more stable. That will push it more towards Houdini and Bifrost with node-based FX... sorry Blender enthusiasts.
  16. Chris Schmidt (Rocket Lasso) announced they are working with Maxon to create some node-based tools and consulting with Maxon regarding the node system. It may be worth checking in with him so there isn't a duplication of effort and to maximize the development talent on this.

    Blender to C4D

Thanks.. I was looking for that. UVs are still tedious in C4D even with their updates in 21 and 22.

    Blender to C4D

Is anyone using Blender specifically for modeling tasks to bring back into C4D for layout? I still prefer C4D but have been using Blender a bit for modeling since the tools are more robust. I was wondering if others are doing the same thing, or have you completely shifted to Blender for everything?
  19. would recommend exporting out single assets from C4D/Forester then instancing the assets and rebuilding the scene in Houdini. Houdini is more efficient with data.
  20. eek.. there has been enough work to have this be considered "SP2"? very sad.
  21. Maxon needs to force themselves to put out scene node training instead of having guests come on showing stuff they've done in previous versions of C4D or having half the stream taken up with Red Giant plugins. I'm not trying to down what they are doing.. they do more than others like Autodesk. But I feel if they have spent a HUGE amount of development time coming up with these scene nodes, they should be highlighting it a bit more with focused streams on how scene nodes actually benefits the artist. I don't mean just making capsules. I mean doing hardcore node work for something you'd see on a client job. Right now scene nodes seem like a footnote in c4d help files and marketing materials. I despise mentioning Blender, but quite a few blender youtubers have dedicated large amounts of content specifically for their geometry nodes in 2.9 and moreso with 3.0.. even while it was in alpha.
  22. Separate.. I'd like to see Maxon invest more steaming time into things like Asset Capsules and the node editor in general. I know it's been talked about on some streams but it just seems like they aren't really investing that much time talking about. They have these great 3D Motion road show streams but it's people using R20. It would be great for Maxon to find more artists using, pushing and even almost breaking the new R25 nodes and tools. R25 appears to be more than a UI facelift, missing icons and bug fixes. Showcase that stuff. I'm not a huge blender fan and use it sparingly for modeling, but a youtuber Erindale is doing these ridiculous streams showing how he's creating everything in Blender 3.0's geo nodes. Granted, blender crawls on the floor like a dying dog, but he's at least showing how much can be done in their geo nodes now.
  23. Yeah but you need a target for each release, or you could just keep R25 in a perpetual state forever or until 3 years later when nodes are finally finished. You need specific date for the next release and then adopt milestones for progress along the way. You need to figure out what you can realistically accomplish in that amount of time. A year is a good number of billable hours to produce a next version. Also, it provides paying customers and the press this idea that the developer is continuing to refine and update their software. Even bad press is press. If Maxon waited 3 years to release a new version, in general they wouldn't be talked about as much while developers like Blender, SideFX and Autodesk are continuing to release on set schedules. The fact that a year passes and a release is imminent with "seemingly" little done is on them. They'll have to take one on the chin, as is seen now with Maxon. Also, lets face facts, people are more whiny and bitchy these days because the internet has given them a place to complain as much as they want with a larger audience to hear it. Maxon could have added X, Y or Z features to R25 and yet some whiny kids will complain it's not enough, or it wasn't the features THEY requested, or the blender kiddies would have chimed in about their free software with little to show that they've done anything in their free software except talk about it online. Lastly, I thought there was something about releases needing to happen at least once a year to appease EU laws since it's subscription or maintenance? I can't recall.
  24. He's like Woz.. hasn't worked for Apple for years but finds time to search out articles and comment on all things Apple. Not sure if it's sad or still passionate about it.
  25. whiners. I dare them to jump ship and find something else even remotely competing with Zbrush for that kind of work. 99.99999 percent are puffing out their chests as if they're going to do it. They're also complaining after getting YEARS of free updates which no other company does. As many others are starting to say, it's PIxologic's fault. You can't expect to make money by giving away free updates forever. You can't expect to make money after everyone already has a perpetual license with free updates and you decide to do subscriptions. No one is buying that bullshit. I saw somewhere Pixologic took about a 30 million or so drop in revenue over the course of a few years. I'm surprised they were able to keep innovating, unlike Blackmagic which gives Fusion away for cheap with free unlimited upgrades and they don't do crap with their software. Someone was going to buy Pixologic sooner or later. I'm surprised it took this long. Poor 3D Coat guys wish their software was at least looked at in such regard as wanting to be purchased by a bigger fish.. a las.. it's still crappy bottom of the barrel. The great news is Maxon masked their minimal C4D R25 SP1 release by buying another company, instead of investing the dollars back into dev of C4D. WEEEEEEE WHO NEEDS MORE ICONS!! Still not understanding why they won't just buy Insydium.. it would at least have made more sense than Zbrush.. but Zbrush was underwater I guess.
