Any reason to think the cost of a sub for R26 will go up when announced in a couple of weeks. If some people's wishes came through and RS was added to C4D as the default renderer, I could see them raising the base to $800 or so? So far companies like Adobe and Foundry have raised their subs/maintenance often enough to be noticed. Not really interested in the Ice-rhetoric... just an idea if it's plausible the sub would go up this time around. I'm not sure if Maxon employees can at least give a yes or no here.

You could use Element 3D within AE as another option. Also, there is an AE2Blend which doesn't look like it's up to date or BlenderAE: https://aescripts.com/blenderae/ which will help with having the two apps talk a bit better.

So in blender there's absolutely no way to select multiple objects in the Outliner and apply the same parameters to them at the same time? For instance, if I want to turn on Auto Smooth or apply a new material to selected objects, I can't? Also, I found myself needing to toggle quite often between Blender's idea of using G, S and R and the traditional translator gizmos. Has anyone found a more elegant solution? I'm either having to go to the tool panel, or use Shift-Space then hit G to pull up the move gizmo. When first starting out I tried lazy viewport addon and then Gizmo Pro, but I'm still tied to the Shift-Space to pull up that panel. Also, i do miss R25's dynamic placement tools.

Outside of the rhetoric, it would be great to see that Unreal section, especially with people like Igor using tools like Houdini to publish assets for UE. With plugins like AlterMesh for Blender and hopefully something similar for 26/27, it will be great to see how people are pushing their nodes through to UE too.

Installing now. Rethinking C4D altogether at this point...

NVIDIA Research Turns 2D Photos Into 3D Scenes in the Blink of an AI

I know, it sounds great!! Nvidia is a beast!! I love it! -
So on 4-20, we'll all be *HIGH* on C4D R26? (4-20... 420... ok ok...)

Blender has A LOT more developers than Maxon does specific to C4D. Blender Foundation gets A LOT of money which helps to pay for surge development in areas. Some developers are helping out on the side, providing fixes and code recommendations. It's something you don't see in most commercial software. Blender has less management hurdles, which is good and bad. Good is they can develop at break-neck speed without management telling them to look at the board of 20 features and pick only 3 to work on. The bad is they develop at break-neck speed and do things in a non-industry standard way while trying to copy the best features from other software. Their success is also what is holding them back from being utilized more. They think they know better than the industries they're breaking into. Studios won't use them as a main pipeline tool. The user base has grown considerably and also more mouthy over the past 2 years. Could you imagine if they tried to make sweeping changes in Blender now to bring things back into alignment? Pitchforks, torches, rope... witchery. That poor crappy Outliner and "collections" will never get any real love. 😕 Blender is content with being an outside force... one with balls to change the industry. In a way, Maxon should admire that and take some notes. Who cares if Maxon is accused of copying. Blender is popular now is because they copied the best features from other apps while doing it at such a pace that leaves other commercial devs at a loss. As the tickytocky shroomed up kids say.. "lets goooooo!" *puked a little*

Shhhh the rhetoric is high with that one....

Snapping. It's ridiculous in C4D. A lot easier in apps like Maya or even blender. Along with snapping would be align. Quadcaps, relaxing points while maintaining shape, using normals or other shapes for extrusions, and so much more. Repeat last tool. Hell.. getting out of a tool requires either switching to the Move tool or the Select tool, in order to drop my current tool. Modeling modality: I shouldn't have to press M to get into modeling mode. It should already be present when I automatically shift into point, edge or poly mode. While some hotkeys for functions like Extrude exist outside of having to press M first. However, if I press D (extrude) in Model mode, it doesn't change me over a modeling mode to use it. It just sits there with an extrude mouse icon, looking at me all stupid like. Make hotkey sets where they will shift based mode or function? For instance, in model mode with the viewport active, CTRL-R invokes the Render View. However, if in modeling mode, CTRL-R invokes the Add Edge Loops tool. Speaking of edge loops, if I lay down an edge loop, my scroll wheel BEGS to be used. Let it dial in more loops, ffs!!! I shouldn't have to move my mouse at all, especially to change the number of cuts in the Attributes Panel, or the cute UI at the top with the +/-. Make C4D more efficient. The UI looks great, and back in the day it was considered artist friendly. These days artists want tools that expedite their content creation, including utilizing scroll wheels and hot keys and hotkey sets.

I believe it's still the same file format, regardless of Maya proper or Indie. Maya isn't a bad all around software. I used it for years. https://malcolm341.gumroad.com/l/cZvxZ (check out the Mel Script Mega Pack) Very indispensable. (playlist below for his tools). Once you understand mel, you can tweak some of the scripts, or add additions like Import/Export FBX or ma (versus his .OBJ) https://www.wzxstore.com/ (various scripts as well as training). ModIt, PlugIt, StampIt, Evit, Cable were all pretty good for Maya. https://im3djoe.gumroad.com/ He has a few free scripts. A few of us invited him into the beta. Subsequently, I think he speedcut was ultimately added to the Bonus Tools package which is a separate download from Autodesk for free. https://eriklehmann.gumroad.com/ Erik has some nice script... some a bit pricy for what they do. https://klaudio2u.gumroad.com/ (Select Similar is great.. I wish apps like C4D had this). Wedge and Mirror are also useful free tools) https://www.highend3d.com/maya/scripts-plugins/c/downloads (old repository for scripts... sometimes updated with new content

That reminds me... Maxon should continue to diversify and add designers like Gryun Kim, Woosung Kang and Jeff Han to their 3D Motion Show. Training companies like Coloso and Wingfox have talented artists creating great tutorial content in Asia.

False sense of ownership. Only NFT "bros" care about what is in other NFT "bros" wallets. The fact some groups were able to parse data from some auction sites and post the content as a torrent speaks a lot. Also, the fact anyone can right click on an NFT shill's post and save it to their own photos brings up the issue of "ownership" and how most people may not even care, as they're using a downloaded NFT image as their desktop background. I consider some of these gaming NFTs similar to when you get boxed collector's editions of games and it comes with a mouse pad and a coin. umm ok. you show it to a friend, then it sits in the box, until you're tired of the box and you throw the stuff away a year later. Eventually people will have a digital wallet full of crap they really don't care about anymore. But hey.. it's a good scheme.

I found it happened on the Mac too. We didn't have the same issues with Maya.

So new tools in Create, Mesh, Volume, Mograph, Character, Simulate, and Render...

not always how a beta works. Beta testers don't necessarily get a "vote" when it comes to features or changes. They are solicited feedback but as something as extensive as a UI overhaul, it has already been decided by the dev team and started work on it even before it hits beta. At least this is the case with some Autodesk betas. Also, the engineers aren't making the icons or fiddling with the placement of toolbars. There are separate people for UI/UX, so it doesn't stop development of fixes or features. The joke about the "blender-like" ui has passed. It's like seeing another Drake meme these days... or an uncle joke. No body cares anymore. I agree.. the beta should be more open.

Do you actually USE Blender as much as you post about it here? I've seen way too many blender hobbyists extol the virtues of Blender across the internet, to any eyeballs that can see their cute little posts.... but they have shit to show for it. I mean it's great to have a hobby you're excited about. Do you actually USE Blender daily, or did you just jump on the hype train like the rest of them? As much as you rant about it, you should be surpassing Ian Hubert... right... about... NOW! BTW, no one *really* digs a hole. It's the internet. Relax. Barnstorm's use of Blender is an interesting story because they were a young studio, having used other apps like Maya and started w/Lightwave. They were seemingly listless and found blender and kept at it. Meanwhile, other companies such as Elastic who use apps like C4D and Maya worked on the title sequence. I'm sure others contributed shots to the show, who also weren't "Blender" purists.

The memory seemed fine. I just had to wait for it to calculate. It also appeared as though if I even moved one of those nodes in the editor, it had to recalculate as well. After I let it settle down, I was able to delete one of the greeble nodes and keep messing around.
-
I made a mistake by pushing a greeble through a greeble and paid the price while waiting for it to calculate. I noticed in task manager C4D was only eating up 5% of my CPU though.
-
I actually enjoyed Chris Schmidt's segment on nodes on today's show. I think I understand a bit more what Maxon is maybe trying to achieve in the future. I'm hoping they make a universal Node Editor. In Maya, I loved being able to open multiple shader networks in the same editor. Separately, I know the Arnold team is continuing their work on Arnold Node Material. Redshift and Octane could also learn a thing from Arnold's toon.

It could also be Maxon is coding the changes into Maxon app to include ZBR and looking at changing the licensing model within ZBR itself which would fall in line with the rest of Maxon/RG licensing schema. Who knows, they could make an announcement as early as their 3D Motion Show next month? Also, they could go the route of Adobe and start to muddy their Maxon One subscription model and offer Zbrush separately, or a separate "Maxon One - 3D Edition" (C4D, Redshift, Forger, ZBR). There are probably a lot of us who could give a shit about the Red Giant apps, especially when many aren't OFX.

Unfortunately some of the C4D plugin devs have left over the years. Others haven't done much to update their plugins other than just make it "work" with new versions at the most. It would be interesting to see Maxon fold in some of these smaller devs and some how integrate their tools, like HB's modeling toolkit. Autodesk did that years ago with NEX, integrating it into Maya's modeling toolkit over a version or two. Then they brought in Mainframe to bring their MASH plugin into Maya and after working on it for a couple versions, their contract was up and Autodesk let it sit there. Even the forum was shelved in the beta. I feel the atmosphere is a bit different that it was years ago regarding old tools. Many of these tools have more ways to share data through more robust file types. Back in the day, these rusty tools had obj and fbx as the main conversion types and back then fbx was hit or miss it felt like because of versioning between the apps. As it stands, many of us now use different apps for different parts of the pipeline... (maya, blender, max for modeling/uv, ryzom for UV, zbrush/3D coat for sculpting, substance/mari for painting, various renderers for rendering and so on). Also, with the younger artists coming on board, they have instant access to free software with plugins that cost about $10 a piece, compared to paying a subscription, and paying for a real renderer, then paying $50-100 (or more) for any C4D plugin which has a unique capability which you may only need for a shot or two. For these kids, the buy in for C4D may be cost-prohibitive. I mean, at least with Maya Indie or Houdini Indie you get a solid renderer for free. As some people on this particular forum have realized, they may not need C4D as part of their pipeline. They've found other tools that can get them most of the way there, including Blender. Right now Blender is some how the darling of the industry, seemingly from the grassroots social media marketing found on many forums, including this one. Granted many are hobbyists or beginners, but the volume of voices is louder than Maya or C4D users. That should be worrisome for Maxon. Meanwhile, Houdini users sit back and say "I don't have time for this.. I have shit to do...." 🙂

I'm guessing the end of next month they'll premier it at the 3D Motion Show (Apr 24-27). My sub is up at some point next month or two. I may wait to see what R26 is all about before resubbing. Hopefully they won't raise the price. Getting back into Houdini right now anyhoo. It looks like the show is a multi-day event: https://www.3dmotionshow.com/ Still nothing solid on their calendar: Sunday April 24 10:30"Artist and Presentation TBD" 11:30"Artist and Presentation TBD" 12:30"Artist and Presentation TBD" 13:30"Artist and Presentation TBD" 14:30"Artist and Presentation TBD" 15:30"Artist and Presentation TBD" 16:30"Artist and Presentation TBD"

Dunno.. their about us page shows a list of devs and engineers. https://insydium.ltd/about/our-team/ I'm still hoping the reason why XP seems flat on dev is not only GPU but also node-based development behind the scenes. With such a small team it's probably difficult to maintain two internal versions of XP? I guess we'll see soon 🙂 I read on one of the YT videos that more info on Cycles will be coming out later this year, probably due to Blender 3.1 cycles?

Truth. Insydium bought TerraformFX and have kept developing it. They just showed another update a few days ago. I will say though, World Creator 3 promo stuff looks AMAZING. Aaron Westwood posted a bunch of shots using WC3, C4D, Octane, Megascans, Speedtree.... https://www.artstation.com/aaronwestwood
