I don't plan it out persay , I tend to just build all the loops in as I go, the topology does differ slightly from model to model , depending on how detailed the face is or how high or low poly it's going to be, I tend to build the face in a specific way, so I'll start with disk, with the centres removed for the eye sockets , and make sure these have the desired loops , same for the nose and mouth areas , once you've got all those made its just a matter of connecting them altogether, I know that Its impossible to avoid 5 sided poles so I'll just make sure i put these as far away from the mouth or any area that's going to deform as possible, sometimes I'll come back to it later on and adjust the topology if I can see a better way of doing it that I didn't spot the first time, it's sort of like a puzzle every time but after you've built a few characters you can kind of visualise the topology and where to put this and that before you've even got to that part.

looking sweet man, one thing that bothers me though is the movement of the jacket, especially noticeable on the left hand side when he's stationary, i think this would look a lot better if it was a bit stiffer
  8. Lmao , sure man no problem , I'm just out at the moment when i get back home I'll send you a link, be warned it's a heavey mesh with sub D on, 11 million polys heavey haha.

Hmmm , as Fresh pointed out at the moment it's looking weird because you now have more stylised proportions but still have a relatively realistic look, and usually these don't really go together well, if you're going for stylised I'd soften things up a bit so it all flows from top to bottom more smoothly so the whole character has a nice silloette, at the moment he kind of looks like a dwaf with a stretched torso

Hey man looking good so far although if you're going for a more cartoony look and are intent on having the head that large I'd make the body shorter with more stubby short legs, I'd have the feet somewhere roughly where the knees are now, as at the moment you have a relatively realisticly proportioned body and a massive head, and it looks a bit off to me but that's just my 2 cents :)

Whats up guys so heres a bit of an update, fair bits changed since the initial post, started to refine the materials, added some moonshine and rope, shotgun, redid the rolled up blanket on the back and made a few other adjustment, did some higher res renders so you can get a look at him up close :D just click full size.

I have alot of respect for riggers, complex rigging really is an art form in its self, far more complex, technical and difficult than modelling in my opinion, which I could pretty much do in my sleep at this point, my main problem is I'm not as passionate about the technical side of 3d as I am about the art side, once I get an idea for a character I'm off and modelling and finished by the time most people are just about done planning out what it's gonna look like etc, and I've pretty much got the next one planned while I'm modelling the current one, so it's something I definitely need to work on, @everfresh has been chipping away at me for ages , I think he may have given up now though lol. I appreciate the offer Dan that's very generous :D

Let me know when there's an auto fit drag and drop rig I can just plonk on to the character and have it auto weight it 100 percent accurately and I'll jump on board

Might have to compromise and go for a barrel of it instead

This is Pig, he's er, well...he's a Pig, and also a not so noble steed by the looks of things! still a work in progress :)
  20. Certainly not going to be able to please everyone, but it is disappointing, as @everfresh has made a point of, that there's no updates to the character animation side of things, and @Cerbera hopes for a properly working opensubdiv, seem to have been dashed again, still some nice new features like nodal materials which i wasn't expecting :)
  21. Bob the first link there doesn't work for me when I click it, I'm with vozz I was expecting some crazy good robot renders, was quite pleasently surprised :D
  22. No worries man glad you like it :p , renders looking pretty sweet too :D
