Youtube video available here. Let me know if this method works. -
Falloff-based selection of clones... is it even possible?
noseman replied to JustinLeduc's topic in Cinema 4D
I m using a Geometry Modifier Group and the Ray Collision Node to do what you suspected. I am loading an array with all the first hit points, and using them as a Point Cloud for a Cloner to Put Objects on. Encoding the Youtube Video as we speak. Will make Video and Scene file available Monday Morning Eastern Time... -
Falloff-based selection of clones... is it even possible?

Soooooo... I went down a rabbithole with this. Check out this video and if this is the effect yuo want, I have a solution. Youtube tutorial and scene file coming Monday. https://www.dropbox.com/s/wxrv0epg5c9o9qr/Ray_Casting_Clones_Nodes.mp4?dl=0 -
Falloff-based selection of clones... is it even possible?
noseman replied to JustinLeduc's topic in Cinema 4D
@JustinLeducI replied on Twitter with a short Video anti-tutorial. Even Raycasting won't solve your problem in the case of the Teapot as it would either obscure the body of the pot on the LEFT if you consider "shadows" or if no shadows, it will include the inner part of the handle in the RIGHT selection. As I see this, it's not possible to do that procedurally. Having said that, depending on the final model and how much you can deviate from the original idea, something similar may be possible... but needs a bit (a lot) of R&D. -
I don't mind AI at all... as long as there's an OFF switch

precisely! Calling all users: Tomorrow on "Ask The Trainer" we are showing more Pyro stuff. Come and ask and I can do it live for you, and if anyone has more questions we'll be very happy to show you.
-
Actually no. It's 100% grid based. No motion is generated, only voxel values for the 7 grids you see in the Pyro Object. Motion can be created and propagated to Particles and Bullet Dynamics by using the Field Force and a velocity Grid as the Source... Tutorials coming for all this in a few weeks...

Without the scene it's very hard or impossible to troubleshoot. How are you driving the rig? Are you using the Solver, motion layers or something else? I also see differences in the Joints. In the source I see 3 joints per digit, in the destination 4...

Computer Purchase for Cinema4D: Navigating Corporate Pushback.
noseman replied to BLSmith's topic in Discussions
I think your company needs to redefine its vendors. You need to lobby for that, otherwise you will be paying for it every day, unless you're on a hourly rate... 🙂 Your productivity is going to be lower and the PC more expensive... -
Put your Mesh under a Connect Object and turn OFF "Weld Points". Then Right Click on the Connect and Bake as Alembic... Done! Apologies. The first reply mentions that... 🙂

indeed 🙂 ...and very nice examples of Blender Curves! Thanks for showing.

Here's a 12 minute video showing how you can use splines in Cinema 4D while controlling scale and rotation data. The simple answer is MoGraph... This is an Unlisted Video for Core4D users only and depending on feedback I may do a "proper" one or make this public. For now it's a "Core4D Special" https://youtu.be/BPw36_At-CA Splines with Scale and Rotation 01A.c4d

The way to create "richer" splines in C4D is MoGraph. That's what the MoSpline was partially created for. Since a MoSpline is a MoGraph Object, similar to the Matrix Object, it allows for similar functionality. If anyone wants, please let me know and I can post some examples, or start a new thread to keep this one void of Off Topic distractions.

Typical Athenian... Sparta is famous for many things, Rhetoric was not one of them 🙂

On further reflection, 62.5% credit goes to @Icecaveman for the initial idea seed, 37.4% to @kwesofor the paper mockup, and I take 0.1% for drawing the Joints... 🙂

Auto, and a couple of Smooths... it took me 15 seconds 🙂 But it was all based on your paper image and post, so 99.99% credit goes your way

@kwesoyour hunch about joints is on the right track, and your paper test shows the way to a solution. You need to create joints in the arc shape you drew on the paper. Here's a quick setup: Waffle cone Joints 01A.c4d

For anyone that attended the session [which I forgot to record] please post any discussions here, and I will organize more in the future if necessary.

That's a great idea for Merchandise...
