  1. I seriously wasn't sure if this was just an elaborate april fools joke... but then I looked at the calendar and remembered that it's Autodesk. Best part is, it seems like you can only buy a minium of 500, which is 1500$!
  2. I don't think people are necessarily complaining about the interface. They are complaining about something that nobody asked for and getting almost nothing else. Makes you think at this point, doesn't it? This borders on intent at this point.
  3. Just a wild guess: Most of the dev team is working on the new core (still) to get it done fast, cause they're scared that people will leave (for a reason). So no new features until the "new" C4D is entirely done. What we get is just stuff that they developed to have SOMETHING for the new releases. Because people have been getting their new C4D releases at the same time, every year, for a long time now.
  4. So not only did they deliver features NOBODY asked for or were already available as free plugins, they also broke plugin support YET again to make it even MORE of a headache for the user, AND the developers? Wow! I just read up on the changelog (if you can call it that) and this is truly pathetic. I think this is the worst C4D release I've seen yet, by far.
  5. I'll just leave this here...
  6. Oh wow, I didn't know this dude made videos! I bought some posters on astrography.com recently (highly recommended btw, awesome quality) by Melodysheep. Weird seeing this here just a couple of weeks later.
  7. That is all true, but it is Early Access. That technology JUST came out and I doubt it'd be really production ready until another year has passed. Just think about how long they patched UE4 and how many awesome features were added later on.
  8. > PC Masterrace has entered the server > Igor has been permanently banned from the server (Reason: Lack of taste in videogames)
  9. C4D with U-Render 😉 @Igor That's a dream for room planning! Is that all to scale? Or do you need some kind of reference?
  10. You can do Photogrammetry with anything that can take half decent photos.
  11. Hehe, no. It was just an iPhone XR. It was the thing I got around me with the best camera without having to set up a DSLR or something. I gotta add, those ULTRA fine details you see on the mesh (in the material, not the geo) is a bump that I added afterwards... by itself the texture is not very highres for closeup shots like this but I am 99% sure that's due to my lack of patience. If I took a DSLR and made these photos instead of using the video (!!!) function of an iPhone and just straight up exporting the frames from the video the result would have been much, much better.
  12. I've been playing around with Photogrammetry / Photoscanning in the last couple of days and I gotta say I'm impressed by how easy this has become. I've tried two different softwares so far: Meshroom (which is free and open source) Agisoft Metashape (which is 170$ for the basic version) Why am I posting this in the Blender thread? Because I rendered the scan with Blender and I really don't see a point opening up another thread for this 🙂 I think the results speak for themselves. Mind you, this is the second object I scanned and I didn't really prepare much for this at all! Of course, the topology sucks, but that's not the point of these kinds of models, is it? And here's the original: What you see here has been done with Metashape... I've tried Meshroom but it's increadibly slow and also way more complicated to use than Metashape. I'd say 170$ for a perpetual of a software that gives an absolute photogrammetry beginner these results is okay though 😉 The bulk of the time needed for this was just the computer calculating the result. All that I did was walk around the model with an iPhone (video recording) and trying to get every possible angle. I then extracted every fifth frame of that video as a jpeg, fed that into Metashape and let the software do it's thing. I'd say that's pretty user friendly. For the curios, that's the final shots the software calculated. Not all shots that I fed into it were actually chosen by the software as "good enough" and / or "necessary":
  13. Now now, let's not get angry here. What he probably meant is that he watches the rest of the show... but not Daves announcements. Which I can kind of understand. I solely (used to) watch it to get the info without waiting for someone else to just make a tl;dr. He's definitely not making it super exciting that's for sure.
  14. The yellow skin is so freaking nice. Looks tasty af.
  15. Good stuff! Now add even more blur and shittons of chromatic aberration, some floaties and that thing looks amazing!
  16. I'm sorry but I have a hard time believing this, and the very colorful wording in the quotes doesn't help. I think there's a reason why CGI has started to look better ever since ACES was introduced. There's tons anecdotal info on why for example the LEGO movie looked as good as it did and most of that is attributed to ACES (aside from very talented artists of course). I have tried it myself and it just looks better, in my opinion. Sure, maybe you can produce the same effect via linear workflow and lot's of grading, but I prefer the output ACES delivers because it's faster. I haven't dabbled in gradin with ACES yet, though.
  17. Oh yeah, that's an issue definitely. I was never active in that forum but it's something you have to massively moderate otherwise stuff like this gets out of hand fast, especially nowadays.
  18. Well in the end the users decide what they want to talk about. You can try moderating everything and completely removing certain topics but at some point all you're going to do is alienate and piss off your users. People want to rage about stuff that frustrates them and I personally see nothing wrong with it.
  19. I recently had a super complex testscene with thousands of objects. Just out of sheer curiosity I opened them up in all 3D packages I have available: C4D imported the FBX super fast (under a minute) but the scene was unusable. Barely 3FPS, selecting stuff took seconds after the click 3DS Max took over 30 damn minutes to import. Barely 5FPS, selecting stuff took seconds after the click Houdini imported in seconds, decreased but very, very usable performance. I didn't expect anything else tbh Blender imported in seconds, decreased but very, very usable performance. The UI snapiness took a hit, but that's about it After that I can definitely understand why the Maxon team have been reworking the entire software from the core up. It's insane how much faster Blender is in viewport performance, WHILE doing fancy shader stuff at the same time.
  20. Other way around, it would be awesome if Maxon was an Insydium company. Those guys are great with fair prices, tons of openness about their products and their stuff is generally really well made.
  21. Insydium is doing fine as long as C4D doesn't go down the shitter. I can't imagine they enjoy being in this position. It's like having one client that covers all your revenue but you're screwed if he switches to a different artist.
  22. Hey, I feel you. Can't justify it. I luckily still have an R21 perpetual... and I gave up on waiting for an Indie license. I doubt it's ever going to come. For me it's too late. I'm learning Blender right now and thus far I don't see anything that it can't really do, compared to C4D.
  23. Could have worded that differently 😅 But you're a special case too, can't upvote your stuff either!
  24. Igor is a special case, you can't upvote his posts. For everybody else it should work, Button is at the bottom right of every post 😉
  25. As we are far from stagnating in software, which big innovations every few years have proven again and again, the only reason IS money, I have absolutely zero doubt about it. "Oh man, our software barely had any updates worth mentioning in three years.. you sure wish you had a perpetual right now, right? Well, too bad... so sad we don't offer that anymore..."
