  1. I mean yeah, I don't use Reflectance or Sculpting, but Takes were a gamechanger and made many, many things sooo much easier.
  2. Alrighty then, here's the Baloon thing from yesterday 🙂 Vellum1.hiplc
  3. I think we could start uploading the HIPs as well if we post something. I think that'd help out everybody.
  4. Oof that doesn't sound very reassuring...
  5. If MAXON is like a slightly manipulative partner that started out as the perfect relationship then Autodesk is that partner that beats you every night for no reason and then asks you for money.
  6. Very cool! I don't think you rendered that with Redshift though since that wouldn't take ages 😉
  7. Yep! I used the built in Karma Render for a couple of days but I don't like it... it's pretty slow as far as I could tell and I didn't feel like learning another render engine. Redshift compatibility is actually one of the main reasons I upgraded from Apprentice to Indie. That, and exporting stuff 😆
  8. And done with testing out Vellum (Particle Solver for Cloth, Hair, Softbodies, ...) EDIT: Slightly different Version EDIT: That's the Node Network (pretty much all of it).
  9. Oh yeah you're right. Huh weird. Maybe you can try to contact the guy somehow? E-Mail on the Website, YouTube Channel, something?
  10. Getting fancier with FLIP Sims! Chocolate.mp4
  11. I'm not too sure why you think the site is down, because for me it works perfectly, this adress: http://www.cinematographydb.com/cinedesigner/
  12. Oh I did not know this! That is good to know. But I think it would still be beneficial to have exactly explanations like these in the help documents so I don't have to load stuff into Houdini to see what it does. Maybe as alternative yeah.
  13. I think this is where we have to agree to disagree. Yes, most parameters are explained in a certain way. However, C4D often gives you examples on what you use them for or in what specific scenario a setting might be useful. I have yet to see a single line of text in the Houdini documentation that does that. They mostly just throw technical mumbo jumbo at you (not that that's bad per se) that doesn't really help if you try to understand the intricacies of a certain module.
  14. With my (limited) exposure to Houdini so far I can tell you that pretty much everything has in-depth explanation. However, as long as you don't understand all the internal Houdini wording and how certain data works, and what doesn't it's often really a guessing game. They do not go into detail like the C4D manual does, let alone give you any examples. They literally only describe what this node does, not even necessarily what it's for or in what context it would be useful.
  15. That looks really cool, thanks!
  16. And here's my first FLIP simulation 🙂 Untitled.mp4
  17. That is true, although I feel (at this point) that C4D works much more with it's very own VERY basic principles and these can be translated to almost any features. I am talking mainly about stuff like what tags do, that the order and parenting in the object manager matters, etc. This is where I think Houdini is very convoluted because this node needs to be in this specific place, and this node NEEDS to be there for some arbitary reason that many people can't even explain in their tutorials, etc. But clearly it's a very, VERY powerful tool and probably by far the most complex software I have ever worked with. Compared to others Houdini feels (at least for now) like it does not give you ANY restrictions or borders, you can pretty much do whatever the hell you want. I think I will need to jump ship from Apparentice to Indie very soon though, Mantra is just sooo slow and tedious to work with especially because I have Redshift license that also works with Houdini... but of course not with the Apprentice version 😕 Anyways, I'm rendering out a small animation right now, once it's done I'll post it here 😉
  18. Peer pressure is real man. I've spent the last couple of days diving into it as well and man... it's so different. There's so many concepts that no other software has and so many things that are just done in a weird or "houdini'ish" way. One thing that I really don't like about it is that it often doesn't tell you why something doesn't work. Or to be precise, it "works" but not in the way you expect it to. It doesn't tell you "hey this is not supposed to work like this, but rather with this" or anything along the lines which makes troubleshooting reaaaaaaaaaaaally difficult. Yesterday I tried to add a simple roughnessmap to my material via triplanar mapping and it took me around an hour to understand that the triplanar node does not just take the output of a texture node as input, but you need to add a freaking constant set to string(file) to feed it the path to the texture. Never once did Houdini help me understand this, it even rendered the texture, the triplanar just did not work and it looked exactly as if I simply plugged in the texture node directly into the material. That said, I got some cool stuff going already. Did you start this thread for everybody to post their stuff in? Otherwise I'll just use my sketchbook.

Again, this is not intentional. This is all done on a voluntary basis so there will be ^%@!ups at some point. I don't think it's too much to ask just not to be a dick about it.

I am 100% certain this should NOT be the case and is a bug. Thanks for letting us know. I don't know what resolution or zoom you are on, but on my 1440p screen there is a lot of empty space between the forum content and the banners on the right and left, not blocking anything.

I know. I specifically logged out to check how the ads look.

I'm sorry what? What "Pop Ups"? There are no popups. There are a couple of banners at the top, left and right. The banner at the top is debatable but the others do not hamper the readability in any way.
  23. That is true. But even without microtransactions games are raking in LOADS of profit. I am not against microtransactions per se, but you can't possibly defend the insane predatory stuff that companies like EA and Activision have been doing for years, especially in the sports games genre like FIFA and Madden. They ask for 60€ each year with some minor roster changes, literally copy pasting the majority of the games (there's screenshots of FIFA 20XX having the banners of the version from the year before on the internet) and deleting all the Ultimate Team progress for every player with each new year. It's insanely predatory and I'm glad it's finally being adressed by governments around the world.
  24. This is why I am a big fan of the maintenance model. It's kind of a subscription, but not really. It's closer to rent to own, but better. If I want a software, I can have it, get some updates and after that I can keep it and decide whether I want to get further updates or not. I totally understand the decision behind going subscription but the fact that 99% are not rent to own is my biggest issue, and the lack of perpetuals altogether if you don't like subscriptions. Yep you're right, we should get back to topic 😉
