  1. More real fake lighting instruments.
  2. Simple sconce idea I've been thinking about lately. Modeled in Cinema and rendered with Corona.
  3. Well, I maxed out my attachments to the forum with my first Sketchbook so I deleted it and am starting a new one. I have been totally off the radar, jammed up with client work for weeks. 2019 has been relentless, but I can't complain. Here are some volumetric tests with redshift as I'm working out a new system for doing concert renders. Random shots on a set I just made up. -evan

    Excellent work as always!
  5. Thanks guys! Forgot to mention - modeled in Cinema4D and rendered with Corona.
  6. Can finally show some work I did for the Walking Dead Season 9 last year. This was a pretty dreamy project. The props department needed a sword designed for the Jesus Monroe character. They gave me basic dimensions that they had tested out with the actor and some research from the comic and previous action figures and then I was let loose from there. I designed three different options - this is the one they ultimately went with. Stitching, seams, etc in the renders could be better overall, but the whole thing went together in just two days.

I agree with most of the above. The plant looks like plastic here and needs better shaders. I don't know that the DOF is helping you here much. It's a great start - keep going.

Yes, you can either use the node editor or build matials the tradional way now (similar to Octane), but the traditional way is very well intigrated into Cinema. Corona uses native procedural noise, Fresnel and other shaders.

I agree with Everfresh - though don't rule out better CPU engines on older Mac hardware. Take a look at Corona. Easy interface - integrated much like native Cinema and will still run on a CPU and give you almost real time feedback with an IPR. Not to say that Octane and Redshift aren't awesome - they are, but CPU engines have evolved past Physical too.

The two days on the hair was totally worth it!!
  11. Keep in mind - especially with Metal shaders - that the shader is only half the story. What is being reflected and the scene lighting drive the other half of the equation. So, for example, if you just have the wrench sitting on a plane and nothing else in the scene - there is a huge black void above your wrench and no architecture or objects to reflect. So you need an environment around the scene for the material to react to. You can cheat this with a HDRI image instead of having to model a room out, but even with aged and blurry materials this makes s huge difference. As does placement of light sources. One of the advantages of Redshift is how quickly you can play and tweak these kinds of things.
  12. Nice work - the reactor looks great and I like the Green/teal wire overlay. I can't help but think this would look stronger with a darker background though. More contrast - the Arc is getting upstage by the floor below it.
  13. This looks very nice. Following with interest. Do you know which engine you're going to use?
  14. Nice work! It looks great!
  15. This is starting to shape up nicely - the new paint shader makes a big difference. Eleanor is a '67, but I like this body with that paint treatment too. I would encourage you to make the (studio) floor darker to contrast the paint color and make the car pop more. I would also blur the floor a bit to break up the HDRI reflection, but I realize you aren't into final shots and lighting yet. Keep going! e.
  16. So good. I love this style.
  17. Doctor - yes, but it's so AWESOME!!!! I'd say time well spent. Please tell me you're working on animation for this.....
  18. Hi - one thing that stands out to me - you've got this roaring fire in the fireplace, but it seems to be giving off absolutely no light. The inside of the firebox should be glowing and that should spill out onto the floor. You can do some nice spooky lighting and shadows with this. Keep going!
  19. I'm pretty committed to Corona, but Next for Maya looks so good, I'm hoping that will come to Cinema too.
  20. Interesting. https://www.chaosgroup.com/news/chaos-group-welcomes-v-ray-for-cinema-4d-to-the-family https://www.chaosgroup.com/vray/cinema-4d
  21. Agreed - the best render engine going I think.
  22. Hi - looking very nice! Two things stand out to me: 1. The floor looks very waxy - almost chocolate like. I wonder if your reflection map needs to be inverted or if the roughness is too high. 2. I don't get sense of the light actually coming from the window/exterior. The shafts of bright light indicate it, but the rest of the room feels a bit flat and low contrast. For example, the door wall and the ceiling look almost identical. See the attached example (just an image I found on Google) as examples of what I'm talking about. I feel like your weights and the Hamper side of the nightstand should be darker and more contrasty. Hope that helps some - keep going! e.
  23. This is shaping up really nicely. Looking good. Maybe slight imperfections or smudges. Looks too perfect. Curious to see where this lands. Keep going!

Amazing as always. Nice drool dynamics! I can't believe how clean your topography is - so efficient - very inspiring. e.
