  1. Gotcha - I've got a strong backlight, but I agree - the side light is blowing out and over exposed.

The exterior shot has HDRI lighting (Shawn Astrom's Perfect Clouds) - the yellow/orange background ones are just straight up Corona area lights and the darker one with the tentacle are using HRDI studio light panels from Pingo. No illumination in the materials. SSS on almost everything and my trademark excessive use of Bloom and Glare 🙂 No saturation pump - just making the colors on the materials super saturated from the beginning - trying to find the balance.

  6. My main machine (which is a few years old now) was built by AVA Direct and it's been excellent. I had a custom laptop made by Digital Storm, that is a good machine, but has crazy fan noise and seems more Gamer oriented. I looked long and hard at Puget Systems too when I built the tower and I think I would try them for the next one., though nothing against AVA.

  8. Saw this for Max and Vray - any idea how to achieve this kind of thing in Cinema? I could use this in so many different ways. TL:DR Add a flat plane to building interiors and it alters based on viewing angle. Here's the promo:

  11. Corona v08 included access to Chaos Cosmos which is a pretty nice set of assets that you can load into your scene with one click. I imagine this is the bigger goal of the Maxon asset browser, but the Chaos ones are such better quality. Here's a few close up tests of some accessories.

  14. The S key is the big one for me: being able to find things in complicated scenes either in viewport or in the object manager makes the whole thing so much better.
  15. Sorting through Shadowcatcher workflow with Backplates in Corona. Have to do a bunch of this for an upcoming project, so trying to get more comfortable with it. I get some weird coloring/refraction/reflection on the glass, so trying to troubleshoot that.
  16. I think these look great and are a good transition from 2d to 3d. The only thing that stands out to me is the bottom/underside of Deedee's foot - can't tell what's going on there with the SSS. But that's a minor note - great work as usual! e.

  19. Trying the new DECAL feature in Corona - this thing is amazing. So simple to use and such a nice way to add decals or aging/distressing to objects without complicated material or UV setups. Here is the before and after.
