Thanks Dan, I must say I'm still scratching my head. Can you tell me what a Substance is?
I think since Reflectance it's much easier to import maps from other programs as they all find a place somewhere in the stack, but this is based on my experience bringing textures in from 3DS Max.
When you say '1:1 ratio between the actual model and UV islands' do you mean to make the UVs all a comparable size to get the same detail?
And am I right in thinking I can model something in C4D, unwrap it, send the mesh to SP, texture it, export baked texture maps which I can then apply to my model back in C4D?
Can anyone clue me in on the workflow from C4D to Substance Painter and back again? It's something that must seem so obvious to pros that they dont bother to mention it. I have seen some people mention unwrapping in C4D first, others seem to apply basic materials in C4D then export directly to SP.
If I wanted to texture the lantern they have in their recent demo video, and I had modelled it in C4D, how would I round trip it out to Substance Painter?
Oh god, that's my evenings taken care of until 2020.
Congratulations to all at big M, by the way, must be a good feeling to announce. Enjoy it before everyone piles in to ask where the Bodypaint update is :)
EDIT - i was too late
Everyone is secretly expecting something pretty big, so if it is a limp release you can expect a megathread here on the cafe to enjoy your popcorn with.
For now, you can ignore Bodypaint, the animation tools, the character tools, Xpresso and probably the sculpting tools. You can concentrate on modelling, texturing, Mograph, spline creation and lighting.
May I take this opportunity to offer a grovelling thank you to all the contributors on here. The cafe has literally been my primary resource for gaining the meagre knowledge I have accrued, and I have always been humbled by the generosity of you guys with your time and expertise. The idea you would get disheartened and log off is terrible.
...I'm just saying this obviously so you'll keep answering my dumb questions :)
You could grant free access to this high level forum to those users who serve the community by helping out in the lower-level forums. So those contributors who are already adding so much to the site don't have to put their hand in their pocket to get something back.
Bear in mind people like Beeple give these things away for free, so that is your competition. Having said that, there is no reason to give your stuff away for free for 'the exposure' or whatever, just don't go mad when you are setting your price.
Hi there,
I have been watching HelloLuxx's tutorial on proxy objects - Tim gives advice on setting up a simple Xpresso rig to switch an object to a proxy. But he only shows how to do this for one object, in passing he mentions that if you have many objects that need changing then you can use a Hierarchy or Object List to make this work.
Can anyone help with this? I can flip a User Data switch now on one instance object to change it back and forth from Hi to Lo res - but there are dozens of these objects in the scene and I'd like the switch to change them all over.
This is the tutorial in question:
Thanks
