  1. Yeah, it's dodgy for me too, but was working well yesterday !
  2. No, I don't know of an alternative, and also feel the loss. If you do write one I'm interested !
  3. You're not wrong, my friend. That'll be fixed in round 3 of the texturings :) Main scratch layers are going to be dialled back, but I'm going to add some reverse AO 'edge wear' as well, and work a bit harder on contrasting ultra-shininess with more subtle 'worn sheen' that you get with frequent over-polishing. I imagine some poor Imperial orderly would be tasked with its maintenance, and would be in constant paralyzing fear of DV noticing his helmet isn't shiny enough, and probably goes at it with an anti-static cloth and some isopropyl alcohol every morning like his life depends on it, little realising the risks of over-polishing... :) But there aren't any fingerprints or smudges on the helmet, because everyone that ever touches it is wearing gloves.
  4. No no - never give up :) Just accept 3D takes a long time to be good at, and don't beat yourself up too much for having lofty ambitions, and optimistic timescales. As I would have said to your lecturer - "I have all the time in the world to think about what I'm trying to say - but I am busy learning the technical skills to be able to make it happen when I've decided". I got the impression that you enjoyed working in C4D, and were starting to really appreciate the joy of edge flow. So it's great shame if you quit now, because in a way you are over the hardest bit - the initially steep learning curve, the realisation that 3D is actually quite hard to do well, and you were just about to get over the basics and into the really interesting sides of the application. OK - I had a look, and it's all fine except the boole :)
  6. Yeah I couldn't enter it - people don't want that sort of heart this time of year.
  7. Hmmm. Mine doesn't do that for some reason. My + and - buttons do work across everything together, but don't ever give me levels of rotation I can't control whatever I set them to. Perhaps this is one that is worth asking 3DConnexion themselves about, because I am not aware of a way to only affect the speed of one property.
  8. Thanks dude. Scratch layers are part of the material in c4d, though I made the map(s) in photoshop.
  9. Round 2 of the helmet textures... This took half an hour to render (physical, adaptive, AO, no GI) ...and his top half nearly done (except arms)... If anyone could tell me why my Irwan reflectance is doing that moire discoloration thing on his right shoulder in that last render, I'd like to know ! Thanks CBR
  10. 3DConnexion make lots of different controllers. On mine, the space explorer, I have 2 buttons labelled + and - that alter reaction time. Does yours not have those ?
  11. Well - there's more lines in that suit control panel than you'd think... not finished yet, but I gotta sleep sometime.

I can't give you modelling advice without seeing a wireframe render so I can see your topology. But I'm not seeing any problems in the render....
  13. Pffffft :) I bought my drummer some drum sticks like that last year, which looked amazing, but lasted for just under 30 seconds of professional drumming ! Yours might last longer than that if you don't eat anything too hot or spicy with them. But they are cool, no doubt about it :)

  16. Bit more progress from me - I notice I do seem to be doing all of him now (sigh) :) Quite pleased with my version of the breastplate so far (though I am going to refine and tighten up those central divots tomorrow and add some more shoulder pad details), and also getting nice results on a temporary cloak mesh using Irwan reflectance, which isn't taking too long to render, even on medium quality. This render took 10 mins (physical, adaptive, No GI, AO). Now to work out if I can model in the cloak folds or if cloth and some wind is worth a go. CBR
  17. No no, it's fine but please update your profile from 18 studio to 18 prime - that was what was confusing me...
  18. I'm confused - you're in 18 studio right ? So you should have access to Mograph... I don't know how to solve your specific problem, but I've always used this method of creating tank tracks, and it works really well. CBR

Probably best not to upload tifs to the internet :) Jpegs via cafe attachment system much better. ;)
  20. Thanks, @Sigor. I'll upload it once I have perfected the modelling. It's almost there.
