  1. Yes but look at her ! Could you get cross with that ? Sorry - didn't mean to turn your thread into cat posts, although there can never be enough of those on the internet ;)
  2. Oh no, the cat is far too sweet and fluffy to suffer repercussions ! (see double standards). It was only a 36 channel production mixing console that could never be used again ! :/
  3. I would have thrown HIS toys out of the pram, and possibly into the fire. This is why I'm not suitable to raise children :) "Now son, I need to teach you what may seem a rather brutal lesson about the concept of loss"...
  4. Sorry - I shouldn't laugh :) But I have already PM'd my condolences to Vecs for his loss...
  5. That is quite a typical thing for large cartoon style eyes, though isn't it ? You know, the Pixar way and all that :)
  6. He hasn't got any poles on his eyes, @Visionnext he's quad-patched at the very center :)
  7. Ah yes, that's dealt with in the second volume, chapter 888, 'Why can't all characters be cubes?'
  8. Well yes, but then you've got character topology unsuitable for animation, so we're stuck with it :)
  9. I admire your dedication, but no there isn't. Wherever a circular loop joins a patch, there will be a 5 point pole. That's on Page 8412 of the IQP Quadratic Grimoire.
  10. Yes, but as you know, 5 point poles are totally fine - there's pride in your work, and there's just too bloody fussy :) PS - was tempted to mark this 'solved' as a testament to your modelling prowess :)
  11. Keep those cheekbones nice and high ;) Lovely topology, as usual, GI vector !
  12. Yep this year was e-portflio download only unless you paid extra for the boxed edition. And you're right that doesn't include the content libraries which are in-app downloads once you have the main app installed. CBR

    MSA

That is true, but not really how it applies practically, because there is no real disadvantage to delaying your MSA until just before the next version is released. So if yours runs out in July, you don't have to renew it until september. AFAIK MAXON will let you roll on as long as you contact them before release day, even if your MSA expired the January before... For a while my renewal was in Jun, but having told MAXON I wanted to see the next version preview before I decided on that year's MSA, that was no problem at all, and I renewed late August. So the only thing we can say definitely is that you will only ever get one full release with each MSA you buy or defer, and that your free Cineversity account stops being premium exactly 12 months after you bought your MSA. 14. You work standing up ?! Not even leaning on stuff ?! Impressive ! :)

    R2D2 in snow

You could fix that in a minute flat with Magic Snow from nitro4D ! :) So tell us - how did you get your lovely atmosphere ? CBR

    R2D2 in snow

From the thumbnail I thought that was gonna be rubbish, but am delighted to have clicked it and discovered it's actually very very good. Nice one ! :) If I had one criticism (and I always do :) it would be that it strikes me as odd that the rocks don't have any snow on them when the ground is covered - otherwise, it's a really pleasing atmospheric shot. CBR
  17. Yes that's exactly my problem with it - if I can't do it sitting down, I'm not doing it at all ! :D Actually, you can do it sitting down but if I want to be waving my arms about like a lunatic I'll get a job directing traffic or landing planes ! :)
  18. I suppose it was inevitable as soon as we invented VR goggles, and of course all the games and consumer nonsense came first, but today I found this, Masterpiece VR, which is the first true virtual sculpt app I have seen, and it works with Steam, Occulus, and Viveport. Main website is below. https://www.masterpiecevr.com/ It looks like it has some quite pro features from the videos, and whilst I think it's probably still less effort to use a mouse / pen than it is to be madly sweeping your hands everywhere and walking about, it is an interesting concept, and does open up the somewhat unique possibility for 2 or more people to model the same thing at the same time, which is pretty cool if you're into that sort of collaboration... So what do you think; any good - would you use it - would it be easier or more comfortable than the way we do things now ? Would it make us violently ill as we were creating ? All good questions, so just throwing it out there to see what you all think. CBR
  19. No image there, and very difficult to visualise without it ! CBR
  20. I've just been watching the C4Dlive stream, and have just heard for the very first time, from anywhere, including this thread (!) that R19 includes an <50% speed increase for Standard Render, most effective on scenes with lots of reflection, transparency and refraction. It is literally double the speed it used to be, and nobody has mentioned it ! I still use SR for hair, and in a few other circumstances too, so this is excellent news in my book, and I just thought I should shout about it here a little bit in case anyone else had missed that. Piano Keys

Is that a Bosendorfer 290 by any chance ? Always nice to see people modelling the old ivories :) Lookin good. If I had any criticism, it would be that your white keys are too long (unless it's for an alien with 6 inch fingers !) A while back I did a similar model :) I'd be interested to see a wireframe, particularly of your black keys... CBR
  22. If you're not going to buy a plugin, then you are really going to struggle to get snow, sand, ocean and explosions any other way. You might be better moving to blender, which is the only free option that comes close to these things. Actually, snow you can probably do with the internal particles or magic snow from Nitro4d, but not the other stuff... CBR
  23. Houdini is one of the hardest things to learn you can do in 3D - it's a years long and initially vertical learning curve that one. But very very capable if you're willing to put the effort in. Realflow is much easier and more limited in scope, and you'll need something else for snow, sand and explosions, probably xparticles is the most intuitive solution to those sorts of things without resorting to proper voxel solvers like Turbulence FD etc. CBR
  24. Not in the film he wasn't ! Production level-wise, you would have got a lot nicer edges if you'd SDS modelled it. But it's OK; the texture work is going a long way to save it... it's only modelling purists that will notice or care. But you have posted in the area where we all hang out, so notice we did ;)
  25. Yeah texturing work is great, but modelling less so. Horrible ngons everywhere, triangles that don't need to be there, over-dense geometry in places. Most of this has happened because things were made with splines in generators. However Wall-e is good example of an object where this isn't a massive loss, and we don't compromise the render too badly as a result, if only because subdivision has been largely avoided. CBR
