  1. Speaking as someone that goes back to R10.5, I think I am right in saying that MAXON has, in that time at least, never produced any new functionality that didn't work almost perfectly straight away on first iteration (occasionally small issues would be fixed in short order via in-cycle updates). This changed with R18, which introduced about 150 separate problems with the new knife tools ( the most crucial of which weren't fixed until nearly a year later) and (forgive me for banging on about it) a broken OpenSubdiv implementation that still hasn't been fixed 2 years later ! So, I'd say that even if we remove largely non-functional ProRender from the equation, that previously stellar reputation is rather in the balance at the moment... CBR
  2. Guys, we can't have F-bombs in the thread titles !! But otherwise a good idea ? Maybe. You can model pretty much ANYTHING with Sub-D, and that's an awful lot of things to have in one thread ! I help people model stuff every day on this site and a lot of that advice is quite specific - if all those were in one thread, it would be several thousand pages long, and would be so old it would never show up in the main topics list ! Also, people uploading gifs and pics to help their explanations quickly run out of media space here, which I worry would ultimately result not in a stellar resource of all types of models as we'd hope, but in a thread full of broken image links and incomplete solutions ! I think I am talking myself round to this not being such a great idea after all, or maybe we could restrict media to external links to avoid that problem, or find another way round it... We do already have 2 clubs devoted to topology (admittedly I could spend a bit more time on mine !), so perhaps the place for this, or something like it is in one of those ? CBR
  3. Great project. I like that first image a lot. Great font choices and I am enjoying the 'vibrant-but-tasteful' graphic style. I do have to have my customary whinge about all the triangles, unless they are necessary for some later fracturing reason I can't see, but as long as you are happy with those razor sharp edges on your planetary rings and don't plan to use subdivision, you are obviously getting away with it in the render :) May I venture a suggestion for the bump on the blue planet ? Delta down, or higher res bump map - it's a little pixel-y to me at the moment... CBR

    The Keys trailer

Ha - awesome :) Love the landscapes especially. And great sound design, though they have gone a bit nuts with reverb :) CBR
  5. Again, very useful stuff, but the thumbs up I gave it was for Jesus Saves (incrementally) ;) CBR
  6. Well that's all working fine isn't it ? :) Nicely done ! CBR
  7. Multimedia Generalist, I would have thought ! :) Or just CG artist ? CBR
  8. He's got proper superpowers, that guy. Not only in C4D. The other week on AskGSG he turned hiccups off ! Literally just 'did a move' and they stopped ! I suspect he can also jump vast distances ;) CBR
  9. Just a heads up for those that don't already know, but Chris Schmidt is up on c4dlive.com at 1430 PDT (2230 BST, UK). So about 2 hours away at time of posting... His presentations tend to be better than everyone else's, in that he usually spends 100% of his time packing in an incredible amount of practically useful information, and I think he's doing another Top 50 Tips and Tricks session this year, which are always essential viewing, I find... CBR
  10. Oh, I dunno - I doubt any harm will come to youngsters if they view this, and it will make the rest of us laugh ;) I'd leave that right where it is ! CBR
  11. Wow - what a job ! :) MUCH more than just a list, and very attractively done. Thank you for doing this - very very helpful. CBR
  12. Yep, all good points :) Thanks for the explanation... makes a lot of sense. CBR
  13. Yeah, and more cartoony to do that too... Also, I think his ears should be sticking out of the ninja gear :) CBR
  14. This is excellent, and should help a lot of people understand this. Have added to my list of reference videos for people asking about this ! I like the subtle humour in it as well - definitely moves it up a league ! :) CBR
  15. I can't decide if I like the eye bulge there, or whether they should be flat and ridiculously magnified, like through glasses etc :) CBR
  16. But if that is the case, then what is happening here ? :) CBR
  17. I like the idea of having his eyes at the end of his scope :) And beautiful topology as always... CBR
  18. No, 'New users and beginners' is not the place for this, as you are using a lot of 3rd party stuff that doesn't come with Cinema. For that reason I have moved it to the 'plugins, making, finding, using' section. CBR
  19. But we are still losing the specular from the material, which is arguably not a good idea, as some specular is unquestionably part of realistic lighting. We definitely shouldn't have it twice, but just wondering if we can get that render saving and still have, say 20% specular as part of a Beckmann layer for example... CBR
  20. That's interesting. I'd always assumed that if people were using reflection layers like Beckmann etc they should use the specular controls in that, and delete the standard specular that is only there by default for previous version compatibility. I notice you didn't do that, so was wondering if you would get your render saving by removing that without having to disable it in the lights ? Also, for general information we should probably add that with Physical Render you can go one stage further than this and get an even greater render saving (in some circumstances) if you bin the colour channel as well, and do that with a reflection base layer instead. CBR
  21. It gets points from me for out-ridiculous-ing the original, which takes some doing ! And respect for sheer amount of animation - however long did that take you ?! CBR
  22. If you can't find it I'd suggest using an alternative like Poser Fusion which comes with Poser Pro 2014+. CBR
  23. We can't tell that without seeing the lines ;) It might be all booles, triangles and phong ! But I hope not - guess it depends who was driving... CBR

    Zbrush 2018

Hugely powerful as always, but I wish someone would throw that entire interface in the bin and start again ! :) CBR
