  1. I get all my files from a cloud somewhere, but I want textures on my machine to actually load them from so that paths are established properly in the file structure... CBR
  2. Learning learning learning was the key for me. I had a drop-off in work that has (for now at least) recovered to some extent, so had some extra time to play with and have been using that to not only catch up with some personal 3D work, but also to start a new hobby, which in my case was learning orchestral arrangement pretty much from scratch. I still had (remote) contact with all my friends and family, so didn't feel that 'socially challenged', although I must confess to being somewhat reclusive and night-owlish even when I'm not in a lockdown, so not much has practically changed there. I don't watch the news at all, other than what I can't avoid seeing on social media streams, and a once a week visit to the BBC to see what the latest guidelines / scientific advice is. I suspect I am a lot happier and less worried by excluding news and media on a fairly wholesale basis 🙂 The cafe has been very helpful too - lots of covid threads have come and gone which have all helped pass the time and see how our 3D friends have been getting along, and of course if I can help anyone a bit more, then that helps (me at least) feel better about valuable use of downtime etc etc... Like you, I also tend towards depression and anxiety if too many things start going wrong at once, but have so far managed to stay on the right side of that particular black hole, although I think anyone freelance in our industry has some level of background anxiety going on, crisis or not - sort of the nature of the game we are in, but +20% because we're all in a lockdown ! But I'll still happily take that over job security and having to go into some horrible office all day every day to do something I am uninterested in ! 🙂 So, for me, the recipe for 'Covid contentment' is: Learn new sh** Push a lot of polys around, fully absorbing the zen-like calm that doing so imparts Minimise news Maximise music Keep talking to friends Try and help where you can. Drink a lot of tea / spend a lot of time with cat. Stay safe peoples... CBR
  3. Lols - I am so rubbish at Xpresso 🙂 Try this one, which is my next badly informed guess, but definitely does work ! Mix factors both set to 50%. CBR
  4. This is just a null (that also contains this xpresso) with user data sliders for L, R and Both, dragged into Xpresso multiple times, so no special nodes required. Obviously you can drag the sliders into the HUD for on-screen controls. I'd do it like that, but someone who is good with Xpresso will probably see a more elegant way... CBR
  5. You will need to show us your xpresso ! You should upload the scene file. CBR
  6. Welcome to the cafe 🙂 May your learnings be excellent ! CBR

    Escher's Cube

Nice 🙂 We could improve it though if we were so minded... See that judderyness / stepping in your volumetric light, particularly visible at the very top where the godrays are prominent. Don't know what you rendered in, but if it was physical / Standard you can fix that in the visible tab of the light by reducing the Sample distance down to something much lower. Very much adds to render time if you go too silly with it, so best to keep it as high as you can without getting any visible stepping... CBR
  8. Now is here by Clannad is one of my favourite pieces of music of all time, but I can't really see why the cafe is the right place for this sort of post. CBR
  9. Thanks Bob that was a very interesting post to me - don't suppose we can have that node tree a little bigger can we, so old duffers like me can read the text ?! 🙂 It's a very nicely constructed model, which is not what often see from Houdini, so interested in how long that took you to put together. I must confess to smiling at the examples you gave for how parametric is great here - noting as I did that we could also alter bevels and selections later in Cinema 😉. And I'd like to know what happens if you alter something topologically fundamental near the bottom of the stack, does it work with all the stages above it, or do some of those nodes need redoing to make it work ? CBR
  10. Welcome to 3D in general and C4D and the cafe in particular 🙂 It's a lovely place to be... Make sure you've had a read of our 'How to Post on the cafe' bit, but then you're good to go, and happy learnings 🙂 CBR
  11. Indeed. Thanks @FLima. A lot of people worked very hard on those tools. CBR
  12. Excellent 🙂 Let's use this thread to discuss the exciting new things in it, and see if we can do so without mentioning the S-word, which I hope we can all agree has been comprehensively covered elsewhere... CBR
  13. Yes it's surprisingly seamless and pro-looking isn't it ! 🙂 CBR
  14. Oh excellent 🙂 Pm sent... CBR
  15. Yep, don't miss the start folks - it's big Dave McG with exciting things to say... For those in the UK, that's 4.30 pm... CBR
  16. Even though it is sometimes the bane of the drone flyer's life (see 'ground effect') that vorticity coming off the back of blades and wings is a beautiful thing... CBR
  17. You gotta be careful, lest these things get out of hand... Lovely job there by Nick Shaheen, so just sharing here for the general amusement of anyone stuck indoors... CBR
  18. We don't have that tool unfortunately, and i have to say I too have never seen a plugin that does this, but that is not to say it can't be achieved with either Xpresso, or other scripting. But I am not the best person to advise there so will have to leave it to those that are... CBR
  19. Are the objects in question inside a cloner ? CBR
  20. There are already a number of threads discussing subscriptions. There is no need to go round it all again here. Please can we keep this one on topic - comparisons between Houdini and Cinema. Cheers CBR
  21. Welcome to the cafe 🙂 It's one of the best resources out there, so you're in the right place... Happy learnings ! CBR
  22. Anyway, let's not derail the threads - and this one is all about the music 😉 CBR
  23. 'Word' (as I believe the young people might say). I find it very hard to believe they were 'armed to the teeth' as well ! If anything, they would have been sitting down peacefully, having a protracted discussion about philosophy, or trying to get some sleep during Colonel Steinbach's annoying racket while he was misguidedly trying to subjugate them ! 😉 CBR
  24. Cerbera

    Plasma Ball

    Very nice result... CBR
  25. Lols, yeah, that might start out calm enough, but you're gonna end up quite stressed when it all kicks in 😉 Great tune though. CBR
