You actually have largely distortion free mapping there already. It is just not contiguous, and were it to be so, then the distortion would be worse.
Test this by popping into UV Edit, making an edge selection down one side of it, and then using U,J (UV peeler) to unfold it along that seam, which will give you a single contiguous island, and depending on how you drag in the viewport as you run the peeler, 2 different characters of unwrap (proportional vs equalised)...
As we can see, fairly disgraceful levels of distortion whatever we do with a contiguous unwrap, meaning it is not possible with that shape to unwrap it nicely and still maintain the single island. What you had was better. Cubic might be better still, despite the rounded form at the top it still flattens quite nicely into a 4 sided map, though again, more seams of course...
You could also try a triplanar setup, better than cubic, and independent of and removing the need for any UV unwrapping - easy enough in RS, but also possible in Standard / physical with a bit more running round the houses...
