  2. Based my my short story and my first new animation in a couple years it seems. The short story is illustrated but the animation isn't really based on them. Trying new stuff, black and white, adding some 2D animation with the 3D. I have no idea how long this will take. the open shot through the trees was 49 hours to render! This is in the gothic horror vein most of my other projects are. A village near a cliff by the sea loses some of its residents over 200 years to a mysterious call to go towards the sea.

  4. spring final.mp4 That hurt my feewings... Houdini has an L-System implementation that why I asked Maxon for one... I guess they also think it's not useful that's why they don't update it with other things I suggest...

  6. Sorry to take so long to respond, I have been busty with work and not checking into core 4d. Thanks for your kind words. I come from a film, that is pre digital background, for photography and cinematography, plus most of my art is pen and ink. Oddly this was my first black and white animation! I used a muted tone and style I like, at the moment, in my photography. I didn’t want an expressionist or film noir look for this. I certainly see me going that route in future as I LOVE those styles! I have never seen that short! It looks very advanced for that time! As for the tombstone names, a couple are fictitious and reference my original short story but the vast majority are dead friends and family mostly from the last decade. There are four sides to that monument and I ran out of space when I went further back in time so I just showed some more recent or meaningful names to me in the shot. The newspaper articles are friends and family as well. Including me. One friend was very excited he was amoung “the lost”!

  7. Measure and Construction cannot be accused of being intuitive to use, but once you can use it, it is actually quite helpful, and can do what you are asking for IF your models meet its requirements, which are, basically, that your meshes are editable poly objects, and that you set it up carefully enough. The procedure is as follows: 1. Prep - make sure your meshes are editable, and have their axes in the correct place for rotation. 2. Activate point snapping. The Tool itself should auto-snap even without this, but this aspect of it is flaky, so rely on proper snap instead ! 3. Get M&C Tool from Tools / Guide / M&C. A red line should appear arbitrarily placed in viewport. 4. Drag the start of the red arrow to the nearest vertex to your intended hinge point, then the end of it to an equivalent point at the end of the object. 5. Hold control and click again to establish a second measure (green line), and snap / align that relative to the first. At this point the angle between the 2 should be displayed and selectable for editing simply by changing the rotation value in the M&C attributes. Here is a quick video in which I attempt to demonstrate that... MandC Wrangling.mp4 CBR

  8. Good thing I asked the exact purpose as this is a special case. Use the Turtle. Turtle is your friend. Copy these to your MoSpline attributes You can control the Angle and Movement to your preference. As long as your opposite bars are parallel the setup works as it it. If the bars converge or diverge though, n order to connect them with the turtle you'll need to deform the spline with the Spline Deformer which might be a bit difficult to work with.

  9. Here is the overlay feature and the first junction ; if a spline point is very close to an other one and its previous point is close enough to be a lane, the very close point will melt into the road (still some work to do with the bezier melting) : If we add a point selection to the spline and a material with its name as a restriction selection, the decal will be on the segment previous the selected spline point :

  10. Didn’t win a prize but being a finalist was nice. I have several other festival possibilities in October and another next spring. I hope to get into one!

  11. Ok It seems done. DAST, I think you will be happier with the walking towards the monument clip. 🙂 If anyone is interested in some more information I have a blog post about this project. Eventually I will add English and French subtitles but I don't have the energy for that at the moment. Thanks to everyone who has been following and encouraging me here.
