I think I figured out my particular issue. As we said, the scene was jittery and unstable. Looking into the other setup I made last night, I tried it at large scale and all seemed to work as expected.
So, I mixed both things together, that is, making a cable with the diameter I needed (3.5mm) but made it really long, like 100cm long. This seemed to solve the issue. No energy 'being imparted' at the beginning, stable and reacting to forces like turbulence pretty well.
So, I think this is the issue: the rope dynamics system doesn't seem to work well at small scale. I am unsure if this is by design or a bug, but for my purposes this is the best solution I can come toβmake ropes super long and the objects used as connectors to be quite large as well.
