  1. Apart from Rigging and FX ( Biforst, Particles, Mash etc), you can probably get up and started over the weekend. Price aside, I of course prefer Maya over C4D. On any day. The only thing that will probably throw you off is how it is designed. Unlike in C4D, where you see everything in object manager, you'd probably check node editor every now and then, mostly in rigging. If you are stuck on something Maya, hit me a PM. I might be able to point you to a way. I have the same learning years in Maya and C4D. Roughly 6-7 years. So if you have questions, how to do something like in Maya much the same in C4D. I might be able to answer it, except for MASH (The Mograph) one. I don't deal with that since if its mograph, I use C4D before and now Houdini.

  2. You haven't heard an argument against choice because there isn't one to be made. Lack of choice only benefits the company. Toon Boom Harmony is the industry standard for 2D animation. It is to 2D animation what Maya is to 3D animation. They have offered perpetual and subscription options for years. Every year, I buy their Silver Support plan, which is the equivalent to what the MSA was. I pay more for that option than I would have if I had bought a subscription, but it isn't a ridiculous amount. The company makes a little extra money off of me, and I get a perpetual license with the same upgrades as the subscription users. Companies can still subscribe if they need to increase or decrease seats. Everyone has the same access to the same program. There are no walls blocking training or plugins, and the difference in price is reasonable. There is no argument to support not offering both options except greed and user control.

  3. Hello, For those of you who also know Maya, how much of a learning curve is there learning Maya from Cinema 4D and to gain an intermediate proficiency (a matching level from C4d)? I might be required to learn it, so I'd like to prepare myself accordingly. Thank you for any insights! Kevin

  4. I finally figured out the issue. It was because I am working on a Mac M1Pro Computer, so I needed to start the application with Rosetta. Furthermore I needed to add full permissions to use the plugins from unknown developers. This took a long time to figure out so hopefully it can be useful for someone else with the same issues.

  6. @kkamin No worries. I'd be glad to just do it for free (although admittedly based only on my extra time). As others have done the same for answering my questions in forums 🙂

  7. Thanks, Bentraje. Would you ever be down for a paid consultation? I'd gladly pay for a few hours of training. This of course would be after I completed some tutorials and started hitting some walls. Thanks so much for these resource links! I'll check them out!

  8. Had used Maya since Maya NT days and still stay in touch via testing but don't use it much anymore. Some decent training: https://elementza.com/mastering-3d-modeling-in-maya/ https://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/tutorials/introduction-to-maya-2023-volume-1 https://www.udemy.com/user/nexttut-education-pvtltd/ Wizix has some too also some nice scripts: https://www.wzxstore.com/ scripts: https://www.artstation.com/marketplace/p/3Yjgb/gentools-collection https://malcolm341.gumroad.com/ https://gabrielnadeau.com/store https://cgelementary.gumroad.com/l/MayaX https://www.polygonflow.io/ some of the newer scritps are starting to make use of Bifrost behind the scenes, sort of like what Blender users are doing with geo nodes but not like what Maxon is doing with Scene nodes. 🙂 GraphN seemingly have made their own standalone node editor which pairs in Maya and Unreal.

  11. Does $20 even pay for the electricity it took to render the video? You should get an amount you feel good about or not give it to them at all.

  12. Pixel Stretch Development Difficulty (5/10) If developed by Maxon it would be an extra option in the Material Tag properties. As a plugin I guess it can have the form of a Tag or Material Node but probably a Shader is best. Enables boundary pixels of textures to stretch on all directions filling the rest of the space. Available in all projection modes except UVW Mapping and when Tile and Seamless are disabled. Example 1) Original texture. 2) Pixel Stretch disabled. 3) Pixel Stretch Enabled (actually in viewport the pixel stretch effect is present as a side-effect at least up to R23).

  13. This was definitely done with AE with "special" retro plugins. it's impossible to have that kind of light behavior in 3D physical render. I have some theories that could work in any 3D DCC though... The text's outline is NOT flat but has wavy irregularities. Using a simple rotating multi-light rig around the text would give some contradictory reflections. But in order to make the text look flat you should render it from an orthogonal view to eliminate any perspective revealing the irregular surface of the text, A simple noise bump/normal texture could also work. This makes any geometry editing redundant. The next hard step is to emulate the NIGHT reflections See that reflection making an ark downwards ? It's impossible to do in 3D without a concave geometry. The texture has to be designed this way. For the letters N,I,H,T can be the same but the G needs it's own design. You could still fake that using a normal map for each specific letter, that would also make the texture react naturally to the environment, but I don't know how one could make an emboss normal letter texture (totally possible) and if it's even possible using Material Nodes in C4D (I'm interested about that, not sure if possible at all, (it's been long since I asked for an Emboss node)).

  14. Patience, an explanation is forthcoming (the slight amount of blurriness, is temporary)...
