  1. Sure! Given enough interest and motivation I could certainly port the plugin to R23 and above. ... or at least try.

  3. Yes, our own polygon pen does a lot of very similar things to quad draw, including reprojection, which is quite nice. HB Modelling Bundle and its retopo setup provides even more functionality than Mayas quad draw, so we are not bereft in that area so much. CBR

  4. Wow, I'm very surprised, thanks very much. I thought several of dast's entries were great, but the game controller was superb! And MJV was quite resourceful with the chips and the rose. I'd have never thought of using one poly the way he did. That was really awesome in both submissions. There were many others that were quite good as well and the competition was fun and challenging. Thanks to the sponsor, whomever they are and to Igor, it was a challenge that made you plan and think. I'm looking forward to more.

  5. Not LIDAR but you can extract textures with photometric stereo capture, it's the way to go to capture detailled surface information. There are some nodes in SD Designer to process this kind of data. The process is really simple and you can get interesting results very quickly. But the "PBR" part is the most difficult one, with much work to do to get consistent and repeatable result. 6. looking good! I think we also need to consider that much of these sci-fi models, with lots of detail, cut out sections etc especially weapons and sci fi gadgets are modelled in cad software like fusion 360 and moi, where you can Boole all day long to your hearts content and not have to worry about topology, vastly improving the modelling time. Not only that but, allowing you to really play around with design aspects and experiment without having to worry about booleans causing ugly distortions to the mesh and so on. A lot of those models would be truley horrible to model any other way, I’ve done a few sci fi models of that nature with sub d modelling and a nightmare doesn’t put it in to context.
