  1. Maxon have ignored requests to make public forums for over 2 decades, I'll be amazed if they create anything at this stage. Though the irony here is that maybe you've potentially just shown David that he can charge a subscription for forums, and so will have one released by next week 😉

  2. From the Asset Browser drag a Object Group into the AM and double click the icon to open the node editor.

  3. Esc key should work as well, but it can only be tested for so often without reducing simulation speed substantially.

  4. Hi, This means you are going 'out of core' - significantly. In other words your graphic card doesn't have enough memory to hold the texture data needed to render your scene. Your 1050Ti card has just 4GB of memory I believe. Windows will use some of that memory, some will be used to drive your monitors etc. As you can see above RS reports just 2.13GB available. That's not really adequate TBH. This means RS has to transfer a lot of data back and forth between the CPU and you GPU - rather than caching it on the GPU. That larger number on the left shows the total amount of data doing that transfer during the render - that's why it grows over time. The good news is that RS is pretty efficient at working with 'out of core' textures. While it will dent your rendering performance it's not a big hit and you will get away with it for basic work. Ideally you need a card with 8GB or more memory.

  5. In Houdini, whenever the simulation freezes or something goes wrong while seeing the animated preview of any kind of dynamic system like smoke, particles, etc. , repeatedly hitting 'escape' button stops the processing and helps us to save the freezing and crashing of Houdini. How can I do similar thing in Cinema4D when it overwhelms my laptop and I have to stop the simulation preview suddenly?

  6. If you're aiming for realism, then yes, use real world units, or at least something somewhat approximately close to them. DOF is based on the real physical size of the lens, its aperture, the camera sensor size and the focal length. If you use values 10x higher then you'll find you have to use silly values 10x higher/lower elsewhere to compensate. Or when you grab a readymade material with SSS like milk, it won't work well because it is set up to allow light to travel X distance through the substance. If you find c4d's cameras and materials are too large at default scale, then press ctrl + D and change the default project scale from 1cm to 1mm (or smaller) This will bring down the default size for primitives, materials, modelling tools etc.

  7. Here is an interesting one. In a nutshell, a linear cloner which respects boundaries of input objects. Generator takes any number of input objects and arranges them on selected axis There are controls for axis, count and spacing Here is a graph The "magic" happens in LCV subgraph 47_Boundary_Clones.c4d

  9. I'd vote for sculpting and/or displacement too. If you've got access to any reasonable photographic gear... you might want to consider physically wrapping a suitable bottle (job expenses etc : ), then unwrapping it and photographing the wrap when flat. That might give you some useful reference, and also might be useful as a secondary bump / displacement on top of any sculpt.

  10. The comedy of this is that this board is chock full of self proclaimed current and past Maxon employees, beta testers, and interested third parties, and probably not a one of them doesn't have at least a dozen ideas of their own that they would like to see implemented first and foremost above any random thing they might read here. Whatever Maxon's problems are, lack of ideas is not one of them.

  11. Just to reiterate here in case anyone is missing this, ICM is stopping this useful and amicable thread because he thinks I'm a Maxon spy gleaning ideas for the company. Sorry to everyone else who was enjoying the discussion, but you can blame ICM for this dumb bout of paranoia, not me. You asked me in another thread why I am here. Given your propensity to drop personal attacks at the drop of a hat, I really do wonder the same about you. If you want to deep dive people's 'identity' with the sort of foul snark you posted right above, go and have a good look in the mirror.
