  1. Hi everyone Glimpse VFX , a Portuguese based vfx and animation studio is looking out for Cinema 4D freelance riggers and animators for an animated advertisment project for the next 3 to 4 months. This will be a team project so freelancers will be in constant contact with our core team. For more information, please contact us at: info@glimpsevfx.com Our studio, like many others in Portugal and across europe is a multi-software house, and we use what we consider "the best tool for the job". Cinema 4D, Houdini and 3ds Max are tools we use in our pipeline. https://glimpsevfx.com/ cheers

  2. Animating visibility is tedious. Especially in long technical animations with hundreds of Cad objects which are introduced and have to vanish again. This script automates the keyframing for you. Select the objects, hit a hotkey and all the visibility keyframes are there. Get it at Gumroad for free: https://laurenslefebure.gumroad.com/l/txfsj

  4. On the topic of User Data. I would very much disagree. Groups as well as Assets can have UIs that exceed the abilities of User Data. Where User Data is an add on to any object or tagt the UI on Capsule Assets and groups is basically native, but as easy to create as User Data, but much more refineable with the Ressource Editor than User Data. As for comparisons to other node systems, Houdini is a beast on its own, decades of experience shaped it and it is as powerful as it gets. Not for the faint of heart though, it does require a similar level of technical understanding as Scene Nodes do. Blender Geometry nodes have their moments, but they are still missing fundamental concepts that are a core part of Scene Nodes, especially iterations.

  5. Imagine you are making Laketown out of Lord of the Rings. Do you wanna model 20,000 individual buildings, or do you want to spend the time creating the sort of nodal setup that can combine and randomise the 50 parts you modelled traditionally earlier into all the assets you need ?!! I hope that illustrates why both approaches are needed, and how they are often used together. You would not (ordinarily) use nodes to model a character. But once you had a character you might use nodes to get 50 more just like him but randomised for your army ! I am not into nodal modelling as much as I a) want to be, and b) need to be, but I do appreciate its vast importance to the way are things done in the future. But with that said, until doing nodal modelling is functionally identical to trad modelling in terms of viewport interaction with models, there will always be the need for the latter, so it ain't going anywhere anytime soon ! I am too old now to be anything other than a trad modelling expert primarily, but I will still learn the nodes at a relaxed pace all the time my brain seems capable ! So far I am kept away by the lack of vp interaction, but still use capsules wherever I can squeeze one in... and those, I feel, are a decent bridge between the 2 worlds... CBR

  6. Yes ! And it can do multiple edge loops at once as well... It knows what to do because of the edge loops either side, in the way that preserve curvature in Loop cut does. CBR

  7. No, not THOSE simulations, who use the background triangulation (or averaged normals thereof) of every surface to calculate their collisions. The sims I am referring to are the new cloth components, and bullet soft bodies for example, which can sometimes benefit from cross-triangulated topology. However, I do note that we have excellent control over that in the new cloth regardless of the actual triangulation or not of the mesh because we can choose whether the diagonals springs are absent, single or double (same result as poke polys), so I am unsure how that is different. 8. Yes. Poke polys will be the least-used of the new modelling tools, but I remain glad it is there, like you say, for all those whiskey glasses, knob knurling, and getting alternatively triangulated topology for use in the new simulation stuff... other than that I don't see it getting a great deal of use... 9. Oh wow... 😮 since ya put it THAT way, I can certainly see it! Thanks, Cerbera!

  10. Hey everyone, I recently made my little sculpting tools plugin free. On the phone right now so check the links below to find out what it does and where to download. Supports R20 to S26. Note that this has absolutely nothing to do with Xpresso, but the forum forced me to add that tag otherwise I couldn’t post. @IgorSomething you could fix perhaps? This is a C++ plugin. https://www.plugins4d.com/Product/SculptProjectionBrush https://www.plugins4d.com/Product/SculptAnimator Cheers, Kent

  11. 2 materials, glass being the base one, and then the chrome masked over the top using the alpha channel I would think. Substance will probably be helpful in eradicating seams / unwrapping that. CBR

  12. Maybe Igor can just charge the regulars (ie us) who are hanging out, and let newcomers in for free? Call it the old timer bill.

  13. Here is geometry modifier capsule example. This, well, deformer is generating wave like motion of various type through any mesh (or spline). Has multiple controls for defining wave type, frequency, speed and amplitude Here is the main graph (double click the icon of modifier in object manager) But all the "magic" happens in Wave deformer group so here is the subgraph This setup can be expanded quite a lot, hope it gives you nice insight on how to build your own modifiers/deformers 32_Wave_Deformer.c4d

  14. I think it's time to weigh in (after being not sure whether to laugh or to cry about your puny bitch fights 😉 ) . I recently praised the forum in a PM for being a real community (in contrast to things like reddit) where people not only help and inspire each other, but also know and sometimes even care about each other. So I really support the idea that people working on this website should be compensated for their work. And maybe even make a living from it. Not to speak of the costs of the website infrastructure itself. But I strongly second @JThreeDs standpoint. Many regulars here, including myself, will not have a problem with spending a few bucks to keep this running. But 90% of the members will just drop it and head over to reddit. And the new member count will go to zero. I don't know if this is "a g'mahte Wiesn" (fixed decision), but maybe, instead of bitching about members or corporations, we can find solutions to this in order to prevent something that even the board owners don't want. Promoting the donations is one thing. Community created banner campaigns maybe help. Maybe even "influencer" marketing (Chris Schmitt, EJ Hassenfratz, etc). Another possibility could be challenges where entering is tied to a fee. To the point where this becomes a annual award ("And the Golden Core for outstanding use of the python effector goes to... CAIRYN!"). With minimal prices (so revenue goes mostly to the site). I'd do it just for bragging rights. And then there is the possibility of merchandise. We have some awesome artists here. We wouldn't have to restrict the target audience to cgi and motion design people. But of course, all of this can only work if people work together. If that would mean, that the two or three people already running this show just have to work even more, this cannot work. And then there is advertisement. I don't really understand why this is such an unwanted option. Would it not be possible to spam the site with google ads and banners, and when you contribute, you'll get the version like it appears now? Well, I hope I'm not being naive. But I also hope this site can stay free4all and maybe become pay2win. twocentsout...

  15. I don’t comment on a lot of discussions or frequent the forum much these days but I’ll throw in my 2 cents for what it’s worth. Now while I agree sending people an invoice maybe isn’t the best approach. The reality of the situation is the forum is growing, in terms of memeber numbers, features etc and with it comes increased costs. Google Ads are all but gone, so there’s no revenue coming from that to help support the core running costs, and honestly I don’t think it’s fair or realistic for Igor to brunt all the costs from his own pocket along with the small number of contributors to keep this all going. He’s clearly not keeping this going for profit making purposes…but to give people a place to come to, to ask questions, gather knowledge, share art, and literally have access to some of the most knowledgeable C4D users out there. When you look at the wealth of resources this community offers, Asking 10 euros a YEAR to help maintain it is a very small ask, 10 euros a month would easily be justifiable in my opinion. 10 euros is roughly £ 8.50 in the UK, I’ve just spent £10 today on lunch…we’d all love for this to stay free. I’d also love to walk down to the end of my garden and pull money off the tree instead of having to work for it, but we need to be realistic. Without turning this into a Maxon slagging match, the reality is, this is the biggest forum on the internet providing help, support, technical knowledge, hell essentially free advertising for Cinema 4D and the fact they pulled funding is a massive slap in the face. Even more so because I know that Igor has put this off for as long as possible, and is not a decision he would have taken lightly. The alternative being that we potentially lose the core, which would in my opinion be a massive loss to the C4D community as a whole. I’ve been a member for 8 years, since Nigel owned it, then Hrvoje now Igor. I’ve been a moderator before in the past and know first hand all the blood sweat and tears that have gone into keeping this place going updating it, adding new features and so on. It would be a damn shame for all that to be in vein if the core disappears. If Maxon won’t help then it’s down to the members to keep our community going. V

  16. I dunno why gentle ribbing is meant to be a problem. Igor even cracked a joke back at McGavran rather than whining. Also a more conciliatory tone would help keep McGavran here. This is another potential 5 Euro sub, and every dollar counts, so do you really want to scowl at potential subscribers? I thought this was a fiscal emergency, yet a few here are alarmingly cavalier about keeping such users around. If I was the CEO of a software company and I found a cool forum that talked pro and con about my product, I would hang around and weigh in. This is what McGavran is doing now. I hope this continues. If we were really encouraging perhaps we could also persuade Dave to start a personal blog. This could be a bit like the work of Scott (‘Dilbert’) Adams, with daily reflections on life, and insights into the CEO’s personal hobbies. Any other forum and I likely wouldn’t sub but Igor has displayed such personal dedication (like the time he offered to show newbies around Houdini) that I am happy to contribute.

  18. Amazing! Well done. It looks like I will need a new computer soon. What half-decent GPU would you recommend for UE5 as a minimum?
