Am I the only one that finds this comment in extremely poor taste? Disclaimer: Yes, I considered not posting this comment at all because what’s the point? You can say that it is only a joke, and I shouldn’t take it so seriously, which is probably true. Disclaimer: Yes, I’m sad that I wasted my time writing this comment. Disclaimer: Yes, I may not have all the facts as they are written below, so feel free to correct me. Situation #1: One person establishes a forum because he wants to create a community around a software that he enjoys working with, and he supports it for several years; however, after realizing that the software he created the forum for is going nowhere fast, he sells the forum and transitions to a new software. The new owners want to continue supporting the community, but they do need to make it financially worth their while because in the world as it is, time is money (another sad topic for another day, which is why I should have spent my time doing something more productive), and they are on the hook for the costs - they are not part of an umbrella corporation to help finance their endeavors. Since it isn’t currently financially viable, the owners thoroughly explain why a membership fee is necessary, discuss how they tried to make the fee as minimal as possible, and explain that they hope everyone will be okay with it. Situation #2: A successful software company isn’t satisfied with their high amount of revenue, so they bring in new management to further increase that revenue. The solution is to remove a subscription service (MSA) that users have no issue with, because it allows users to keep the previous version of the software if they don’t upgrade. The company then implements a subscription service that costs more than the previous subscription (MSA) and discontinues the ability to keep previous versions if you are on the new subscription service if you don’t pay. The company also removes benefits to perpetual licenses holders in an effort to force them into the subscription service. The company doesn’t provide a good explanation as to why this new service and cost are necessary (aside from the “it’s better for users because of updates” talking point). There is a small, but unsuccessful, backlash to this decision, mainly made up of freelancers and small creators. Their dissatisfaction is voiced on the forum discussed in Situation #1. Due to this backlash, the company’s representative thinks that such a comment is absolutely not in poor taste to make because the two situations are so similar, so if you have a problem with Maxon doing everything they can to force you into a subscription with less benefits than you had before just to increase revenue, then don’t be a hypocrite. You should have the same amount of backlash to this forum asking for 10 euros a year. Am I the only one that thinks this comment is completely out of touch? Whether you like subscriptions or not, these are not the same scenarios, and I feel like it is a slap in the face of Igor after he posted such a transparent and honest post, and the decision to charge a fee doesn’t seem like it was an easy one to make. I have a feeling Maxon’s decision was very easy to make. I just feel like it shows a total lack of respect for this forum and the support they try to provide users. EDIT: I didn't write this from an angry perspective, to try to start yet another subscription discussion, or to incite an anti-Maxon response. I'm just tired of society as it currently is. Igor and the team are trying to provide value to this very small corner of the world, I assume because they really enjoy it, and they are doing their best to support it. The negatively, joking or not, as they try to do their best to support their efforts is so disheartening.3 points

@cendrick : What @mododo wants to say is: Don't use different shaders with a specific color. Create one with a MoGraph Color Shader on it. And control the color with fields...3 points

Hey everyone, I recently made my little sculpting tools plugin free. On the phone right now so check the links below to find out what it does and where to download. Supports R20 to S26. Note that this has absolutely nothing to do with Xpresso, but the forum forced me to add that tag otherwise I couldn’t post. @IgorSomething you could fix perhaps? This is a C++ plugin. https://www.plugins4d.com/Product/SculptProjectionBrush https://www.plugins4d.com/Product/SculptAnimator Cheers, Kent2 points

Here is an example how to rebuild align to spline as a capsule. Generator has link slot to load a target spline and child object is aligned Available controls Nodes that make it work Result in viewport As one can see, just a handful of nodes can actually make nifty functionality. Feel free to expand on this setup! 20_Align_To_Spline_capsule.c4d2 points

In much the same sort of way that I enjoy pushing polys around I also enjoy watching other people do much the same, but with small piles of sand and various geometrically proportioned rakes. So sharing this, for interest's sake mainly, presuming as I do that here I may find a few like-minded souls who would enjoy it merely for the sheer zen joy and relaxing sake of it. In some ways I find myself wishing that it had @Hrvoje's dulcet tones commentating, for the ULTIMATE in zen meltiness, but the gongs will have to do 🙂 This is one of my favourites... but Here's the whole playlist... But of course I can't help thinking how we would replicate such things back in 3D land, so it's in a discussion thread so once we've all stopped appreciating this sort of thing at the aesthetic level we can hear how everyone might go about that in their various DCCs of choice... I think in Cinema we'd have trouble doing it with actual particles (certainly without XP help) but I wonder if collision deformer could get us a decent start... and then there's the 'double pivot challenge'... Seems like it would be more productive to address the issue the thread presents than spend time interpreting the motives of those who contribute something to it that is so benign and jokes about it at the same time. Not everything needs to be attributed to some malicious intent.1 point

I can render 10 million grains even on a 32GB system using multi instances, preparation time was a couple minutes. You should be able to render as many grain as you want as long as you have enough RAM, you should expect longer preparation time the more grain you add though. Of course you need to keep the grains visible only when rendering because the viewport won't display millions of individual objects.1 point

Well, 10 € aint that much and it maybe some kind of 'quality assurance', too. And besides that it's almost always the same: People don't value free stuff, they take it as given (see example above). Charge it, they wouldn't contribute/donate for free anyway (who didn't donate/contribute till now, wouldn't do it in the future anyway. I like the idea of core4d being something as a premium club. And maybe we can add some additional eye candy to attract new members.1 point

it seems fair. But to be really successful, you might want to consider exclusive contents like assets, scripts, plugins, deals, ...1 point

Here is an capsule generator which sorts input objects based on their size (bounding box) and spreads them in linear fashion. It can sort in ascending and descending manner. This example shows how to work with multiple input objects. Here is the main graph There is an "algorithm" for sorting which is separate group, here is the graph 105_Sort_Objects_By_Size.c4d1 point

I think @MODODO has a lot to throw in here.... And I hope @jackTheStorm updates some of his experiments to R25/S26 and also throw them here.1 point

For those old duffers on Core, anyone around long enough to remember 3DKiwi's Spirograph tutorial using Xpresso? This thread fits right in with that. Now, I don't think that tutorial still exists (maybe the admins could dig it out archives as nothing came up from a quick search) but a quick google search did yield this discussion with examples on Reddit. There is also this Core4D thread from 2017 Dave1 point

I have an X-Particles 3.5 license and they are doing an offer today for half price upgrade. But I was also looking at Houdini and that seems more powerful :-) So I am in a dither whether to upgrade my X-Particles or go down the Houdini route and have very little time to decide. So I thought I would ask here what seasoned users would go for?1 point

You're not the only one. it was in poor taste. Especially if we consider that McGravan sent his employees to this forum to harass the users who dared called him "AdobeGuy" in a joking manner during the subscription transition. I guess jokes are ok for CEOs, not for mere mortals.-1 points
