..for the modern age π I loved these when they first appeared, and they are certainly no less impressive at 4K ! My favourite is the one below, which isn't 4K, but still nice enough at 1080... CBR2 points

Excuse me, but I do not understand such posts. Is your only statement that people who don't like Maxon's decisions or who don't want to buy or rent the latest version of C4D shouldn't post here? If you don't like it: Maybe use some different forum instead? As you can see, posts like this don't make sense. Is it just about getting rid of alternative options? But different options is precisely what such forums are made for.2 points

Today, a new version of Fused has been released which already includes this new Taiao tool. At the same time, everyone has started downloading, because at the moment there are problems with reading the license after logging in. You have to wait. But you can try to download now. π2 points

That's my sister! WTF? That explains why she never wanted to get together and only keep in touch via Zoom calls all these years - especially during the pandemic. ...it was all a lie. Dave But then again, am I real or an AI application flooding Core4D with posts. You decide. END OF LINE1 point

I do. I mostly shifted back to Maya after the R25 debacle, both for my classes and my work (I still use S24 for some stuff, though). I'm pretty software agnostic, I'm equally skillful in Maya as i'm in Cinema 4D, and I can handle my own in 3ds Max. But I don't really see the point of your post. I don't see how this change the fact that what I wrote is true: all those features in Cinema 4D were abandoned around 10 year ago. So it's logical to assume that Maxon won't touch other older features in Cinema 4D. Should we never talk anything negative about Maxon to not hurt your feelings? I teach three undergraduate 3D Animation classes every semester and I can give you my perspective about this. I can tell you that although Blender has some diehard fans among my students (always 1 or 2 in a 18 students class), Maya is pretty popular due to the easiness of getting a free student license and the prospect of a cheap indie version. Blender is conquering some ground but is not as much as I expected after 2.8. Meanwhile, Cinema 4D is not very popular due to the fact that Maxon charges for a student license and the ridiculous high price in comparison to Maya/3ds Max indie or the free Blender. Maybe this is different in the Graphic Design department, but I teach in the Film and Animation department,, here Maya iis liked by the students, Cinema 4D, not so much.1 point

When I watch Resonant Chamber, I get a headache thinking about Figuring out how to design a single musical instrument which incorporates 9 separate string instruments All the modeling and rigging required The work to break down each musical track for each separate instrument and developing the scripts required to auto-animate both the string plucking and string dampening to occur at the right moment. Note: I am not a musician so I am pretty sure that "string plucking" and "string dampening" are not the right terms...but you get the point. Do Midi files contain both tones and a data file that says "Now I am playing a C note and holding for x seconds? If not, then that is an additional extra step. And I am pretty sure I am missing about a dozen additional activities. So when you think about just how difficult standard Animusic videos are to create, Resonant Chamber just takes that all to a new level. Question: Is this stringed musical instrument used in other videos? I ask because the harps were never used. Overall....outstanding. Dave1 point

Unfortunately some of the C4D plugin devs have left over the years. Others haven't done much to update their plugins other than just make it "work" with new versions at the most. It would be interesting to see Maxon fold in some of these smaller devs and some how integrate their tools, like HB's modeling toolkit. Autodesk did that years ago with NEX, integrating it into Maya's modeling toolkit over a version or two. Then they brought in Mainframe to bring their MASH plugin into Maya and after working on it for a couple versions, their contract was up and Autodesk let it sit there. Even the forum was shelved in the beta. I feel the atmosphere is a bit different that it was years ago regarding old tools. Many of these tools have more ways to share data through more robust file types. Back in the day, these rusty tools had obj and fbx as the main conversion types and back then fbx was hit or miss it felt like because of versioning between the apps. As it stands, many of us now use different apps for different parts of the pipeline... (maya, blender, max for modeling/uv, ryzom for UV, zbrush/3D coat for sculpting, substance/mari for painting, various renderers for rendering and so on). Also, with the younger artists coming on board, they have instant access to free software with plugins that cost about $10 a piece, compared to paying a subscription, and paying for a real renderer, then paying $50-100 (or more) for any C4D plugin which has a unique capability which you may only need for a shot or two. For these kids, the buy in for C4D may be cost-prohibitive. I mean, at least with Maya Indie or Houdini Indie you get a solid renderer for free. As some people on this particular forum have realized, they may not need C4D as part of their pipeline. They've found other tools that can get them most of the way there, including Blender. Right now Blender is some how the darling of the industry, seemingly from the grassroots social media marketing found on many forums, including this one. Granted many are hobbyists or beginners, but the volume of voices is louder than Maya or C4D users. That should be worrisome for Maxon. Meanwhile, Houdini users sit back and say "I don't have time for this.. I have shit to do...." π1 point

In 2032 there will still be C4D users jumping into every second thread determined to let the world know which features havenβt been updated, how they hate what Maxon has become, and how Blender gives them choices. Shrug. Maybe use some different software instead? Youβve had ten years to observe this state of affairs. If a better software option is out there for you, what are you waiting for?1 point

The issue is more one of 'materials conversion' rather than capability. Yes - you can do 3D linear gradients with a bit of node work, but for a simple Y / height based gradient you can use the 'ray position' output of the Rs state node. I've attached very simple example. The Rs state node 'ray position' supplies the position of the shaded pixel in object or world space (node setting). The Y data is extracted with the vector to scalars node. The change range node 'old maximum' value is set to the height of the landscape - roughly 100 units in this case. The node then outputs a 0 to 1 gradient over that height. That gradient can be manipulated with a ramp node. There are lots of uses for this type of technique in Rs π Rs state landscape.c4d1 point

Things never move fast enough, people will always be disappointed over something. I have been getting yearly updates to C4D since 2005. I really like the recent updates: Big fan of the Scatter palcement tool, and dynamic place, I like the revised UI, improved, CV artsmart, all of these are kinda small features but for my workflow are huge. im hoping Zbrush is well integrated and comes standard (same price for Maxon One please! lol) I also hope redshift has much better integration and becomes the standard renderer1 point

At the same time, it should be noted that we have the release every six months since the R21. Therefore, you should count them twice. Considering @imashination rating, it would look like this: R20 = 9/10 R21 = 3/10 R22 + R23 = 7/10 R24 + R25 = 4/10 So there is some dependence that better releases come every other year. Of course, probably it is by accident, but this is how it is currently presented according to the announcement of what will be in the R26. π1 point

No one's mentioned it (I think) , but the cumulative improvments in R20-R25 for character animation have been really good & useful. The pose library, the character definition re-targetting system, things like auto-keys only being made on channels where a key is already set, timeline improvments. Where I work, we use Cinema 4D for previs animation (among many other things). Not the most elaborate stuff but lots of re-use of rigs, libraries of animations, always working in small teams. The accumulated quality of life improvements across these last releases has really allowed us to be more efficient. I know it's not an area that many Cinema users work in, but there has been substantial improvment.1 point

my experience: i am c4d user since v6/v7, atm i have r19 still in use for converting some old stuff, all real work in r25 meanwhile . r25 is the most stable for me since r19. despite several other people for me c4d improved in good ways, for our big scenes (4gb+) it is many times faster in many ways, rendering, and interface than in 19,20,21,23. many small and partly also bigger things improved. i had issues first with the r25 gui , but now i prefer it a lot over the old one. for me it is a pain to go back to r23 or even 19 for some conversion tasks. of course i hope too for improvements (modelling for me mostly)1 point

So you're curious enough to stir the pot (again) even though you've talked ad nauseum in multiple threads how you've moved on from C4D and just *love* Blender, while bashing Maxon for being Adobe shills and their subscription policies. But you're curious... and yet not curious enough to download a demo.. but still curious... this is very curious indeed. BTW, your answers you seek are found in the previous threads where you brought up your old version of R20, the lack of updates YOU found appealing enough to purchase, and ultimately how bad subscriptions are. I'm surprised you don't remember all of these previous conversations. It's a joy to revisit them again, from a philosophical and curious mindset of course!!!! π1 point
