  2. Just noticed that Insydium posted a new sneak peek video 4 days ago on Terraform and before that was a Mesh tools update (see them both here). Not that interested in Mesh tools but Terraform has made some pretty good enhancements to landscape creation and closing some workflow issues with landscape editing. The road system is also pretty interesting. The cover image is a bit deceptive though as it shows a lush forest giving the impression that Terraform also has made improvements to its ability for distributing trees across a terrain - but that is not discussed. Maybe it will be discussed in a future sneak peek video. We can only hope. Dave

  4. I think Vue has that capability and is one of the options in terrain generation. Here is some detail from their web-site: Now, I have to say that Vue is beginning to become attractive again from a feature perspective. There is also a big push on Redshift integration, import/export of all elements (including clouds), render optimization and I have always loved their lighting models. The big downside is their subscription model which ONLY comes with the bundling of Vue and Plant Factory. And personally, I am not too thrilled with Plant Factory. Honestly, it just seems like too much effort to master to only make a tree. I would rather just pay less to get Vue and import trees from Forester. Dave

  5. Please do not take MaxTech too seriously, is very Mac biased and not a 3D guy, running synthetic benchmark is one thing, real work is quite a different one. We have a 16" MBP with a M1Pro(10coreCPU) and is already plenty capable for working in 3D, from our tests on real scenes is about as fast as a 12core Intel/AMD desktop machine, is safe to assume that the Ultra will be about twice as fast. here is a video I've recorded on the MBP, Vray now runs much faster since they fixed a few things including the interactive denoiser: I'm not sure the MP will be showed this summer, most likely for late 2022, it will probably use a smaller TSMC node that wont' be ready for the summer.

  6. The elephant in the room regarding landscapes in DCCs are the small tiles. It still a lot of work to convincingly fake a vast landscape with a cameraview to the horizon. My very first feature wish would be some sort of streaming engine as seen in games. My PS3 was capable of bigger landscapes than my 2022 PC with C4D 😕

  7. The guys over at Max Tech on YouTube have three of them shipping soon. They do crazy detailed, real-world tests of anything you can want to know. In fact, they've already done some comparisons on the ASSUMPTION that the chips will scale by doubling etc, but there is some question at whether the Mac Studio may run a little faster since it will have more power. The point to a cooling system made from copper instead of aluminum which is a better conductor. We'll see soon. Of course, there is the looming Mac Pro which should be shown during the summer. Fingers crossed.

  8. It's worth noting that this approach creates a single long spline. You can simulate multiple segments by adding a material with a multi-colour step-type gradient in the V direction.
