Would be cool if those leaving c4d for Blender would share some concrete examples of what they find better about blender, instead of just making empty assertions all the time.2 points

You can abandon it if you like, and enjoy your time in Blender, but no need to shit-post Maxon with a load of unevidenced assertion on the way out. A lot of what you say is self-evidently untrue. You are IN one part of the Cinema community right now by being on this forum, and there is Cineversity in addition to Maxon's training channels, not to mention hundreds of thousands of tutorials on Youtube, with new ones being added every day. There are current podcasts, videocasts, and Siggraph presentations from present day and going back years. Geometry nodes are far from useless, and their potential is becoming more obvious with every release. There are literally THOUSANDS of plugins and scripts for Cinema. CBR2 points

Looks very impressive. I just wish I had chosen a career with less demands on hardware. Writing, perhaps?2 points

Folks, please, this is not a geo political forum, there are plenty platforms for that. Topics like this will only lead to very bad escalation between members as shown repeatedly in the past. Let's keep the politics out and appreciate that we can escape to this safe haven which is free of war, politics, ideology, propaganda - topic locked, hope you all agree it is in the best interest of all members.2 points

What we do with C4D is frivolous and unimportant to the world. We draw pictures of products which could have been photographed. We draw architectural visuals which could have been sketched. We add special effects to movies which could have been filmed. What we do is make visuals that look a bit nicer than those which came before, for slightly less money. If all 3D software vanished overnight. No lives would be lost, we would all just pick similar careers and continue living with different job titles. The point of sanctions is to piss people off, to the point where they start rising up and demanding that something be done. If all it takes is depriving people of one specific brand of cheeseburger, forcing them to move from an apple phone to android, digging out some dvds because netflix closed and downloading blender; then that isn't such a bad cost. The more companies join in, the more likely the russian people are to rise up against their "democratically" elected leader who has lead them to this situation. If the options are literally a third world war with nuclear armed states, or telling Alexei to download Blender, then I'll even send a few blender usb sticks out myself.2 points

It's not politics, its war. Russia is a nuclear state deliberately bombing civilian cities in europe. Economic and service sanctions are the only way of trying to keep control of that state without falling back on wide-spread european or world-wide war, and the potential nuclear catastrophe that that would bring. Every company and individual should help keep this situation under control if possible using the avenues open to them. 'Punishing artists' is totally irellevant in the scale of such things. Apple has unveiled the M1 Ultra, the latest chip in its new line of Apple Silicon processors, which it describes as the “most powerful … ever built for a personal computer”. According to Apple, a Mac Studio equipped with a M1 Ultra processor “can play back up to 18 streams of 8K ProRes 422 video [simultaneously] — a feat no other chip can accomplish”. The firm also featured a range of CG applications, including After Effects, Cinema 4D and Redshift, while announcing the M1 Ultra at yesterday’s Peek Performance event. The video above shows staff from firms including Adobe, Boris FX and Maxon discussing the performance of the M1 Ultra, but they all essentially just say that it’s faster than previous-generation hardware. The closest it comes to a specific figure is Maxon trainer Elly Wade saying that “scene rendering is up to 4x faster”, presumably in Cinema 4D and Redshift, but it isn’t clear to which previous-gen processor the M1 Ultra is being compared. So which CG applications natively support Apple Silicon? It’s also worth noting that for a DCC application to take full advantage of the new hardware, its developer needs to have implemented native Apple Silicon support. Other applications can run on M1 Macs via Apple’s Rosetta 2 translation environment, but the performance gains aren’t usually as significant. At the time of writing, Autodesk and Foundry have yet to release native Apple Silicon builds of their software, and Adobe has yet to release a native build of After Effects or the Substance 3D tools. US reseller Toolfarm has a regularly updated webpage that shows the current status of common post-production tools. M1 Ultra processors are due to ship in new Mac Studio workstations, available from 18 March 2022. Pricing for a Mac Studio equipped with a 48-GPU-core M1 Ultra processor and 64GB of unified memory starts at $3,999, with a 64-GPU-core processor and 128GB of unified memory costing $1,800 extra. Which CG applications support Apple’s new M1 chips? http://www.cgchannel.com/2020/11/which-cg-applications-support-apples-new-m1-cpus/1 point

What's the point of jumping on a forum to complain about a company and its software and mention you are moving to new software? Just do it. After all.. it should be about the art and the enjoyment of its creation.. Also, Core4D already has "that guy"... someone who complains weekly about C4D and maxon. You're too late for that role. 🙂 Don't sing it.. bring it.1 point

Wow...and that diatribe was the edited version! Really, it is okay to be unhappy with C4D and that is one of the nice things about this forum and its moderators but to bring up some social media hot buttons and then say it is not a political post? Honestly, this is not the place for it. Dave1 point

No I think it's just that it will only be available direct from Adobe now, not from the original developer's old site. However, perpetual licences continue to be available via Steam. CBR1 point

You´re in UV edit btw, switch layout to paint, create material, create new texture, adjust brush and color and paint... (maybe switch material manger to expanded/compact to view "standard layer hierarchy) If parametric projection is enough for you, don´t need to convert object to polygonal and create UV map... You could paint directly on object or in "flat" texture view1 point

In the Soviet mind a nuclear war means turning everything else in hell and Siberia to a summer resort with agricultural prospects. For the communist any irrational action is backed by an irrational justification. From their point of view what ever they do leads to victory (except Alaska, they will be regretting that for ever).1 point

When you are part of an alliance (be it NATO or EU or whatever) you do what you are told to. MAXON is a Germany and US company, these countries have declared economic and technology sanctions to Russia. Software is technology. Don't see only one side. Russia has turned full Soviet and uses the same propaganda methods it used under Stalin and former politicians. BBC has stated that 13.000-14.000 people have been thrown to jail with 15-years time for just protesting in a so-called "democracy". Russian media do not report any other aspect of the war except what Putin approves (the usual special operation denazisation b.s.), they produce their own fake news and the Russian government has drafted social-media celebrities to support the propaganda reciting the same script. Russia has gone full medieval, gulag era is back. What would you do when 2 men in black and 4 police officers knock your door, give you a 3-page NDA with instructions of what they need you to do and the blackmail of jailing you right now if you do not agree. After that they bug your whole house and tell you any attempt on talking about this anywhere will result on you and people you know termination. Maxon and other DCCs did well on retracting from Russian territory because where you see "artist punishment" I see "prohibition on technology that can de used for mass brain-wash and disinformation". There is also an ethical aspect on this, something that Putin completely lacks. Of course the actual effect of banning is non-existent 'cause digital piracy in Russia was never regulated... But it's still something that will eventually bend Russia's infrastructure. Windows and Mac will soon be outdated, many other software and hardware will be filled with unfixed bugs and backdoors and the Russian militarization hacker movement will backfire when the West will be fighting back using better tools. In the 21st century wars are not fought only from ground, sea and air. Now we also have space and cyberspace fronts. It's funny to see the hated subscription system work in a satisfactory way...1 point

well. this hole thing is a test. the world is testing if the globalisation and the resulting economic connections between the countries is capable to stop, or shorten a war. If this works and everyone can see how harmfull it is to start a war, then maybe we can live in a better future. not just in europe but on the hole planet. For maxon this is a delecate situation. stopping people from using a paid software is a absolute no go. But I am not shure if they are doing this anyway. looks like they just want to stop selling and supporting?! When they want to help they should use their activation server to bring independent information into russia. for example every startscreen coud have a small information video.1 point

I have an M1 Max MacBook Pro already on order (but tossing up whether I will swap it for a Mac Studio equivalent or pay a little extra for an M1 Ultra). Personally I am not expecting 3D performance that will light my world on fire, but a machine that will be a better fit for my often After Effects heavy projects. I bought a Razer Blade 2070 model in 2019 and while it's great for what it is in C4D and Blender, it runs like absolute dog shit in After Effects, so it's been effectively unusable for most of my client work. Not willing to go PC again after this one. So the new Macs - as long as the CPUs are all they're cracked up to be, and the GPUs are workable if not amazing, then that's enough for me.1 point

From our tests, going from x16 pcie3.0 lanes to x8 loses you 5% performance. Going from x16 to x4 loses 20%. The difference between x16 pcie 3.0 and 4.0 is almost impossible to measure. Unless you have a system with a high number of pcie lanes, almost certainly a second gpu will be knocking you down to x8 lanes.1 point

You could use formula effector... For first clone use formula "id=0" and for last clone formula "id=(count-1)" and adjust parameters in formula effector for your needs1 point
