  2. We only have to model a quarter of this. Start with a cylinder (no caps), and get the cone shape of it early on, then bin off all the bits that symmetry won't do. Then, extrude sections out to the side of that cone, and go from there... CBR

  3. We have very different idea of what is deep and rich 🙂 and our world is not a Youtube 3D contest.... since crappy NTF are sold for the same money of a Picasso I guess people are getting out of touch from the reality more and more. I do not consider them top 3d artist. For me a top 3d artist is someone who can produce really stunning results, but beside Hubert those Youtubers are not even very good one to be honest. If we judge people by the number of visualizations then we must conclude that this girl is a genius (just a random video with 3 million visualizations):

  4. Correct, I am well familiar with those sites. The OP mentioned specifically how MTL files (which implies OBJ files) are not correctly opened in C4d, so I downloaded a bog-standard free OBJ file with MTL and textures. Of course native Max files load perfectly well in Max 😉 My own experience with OBJ/MTL files is that it is a fragile format and should be avoided at all costs for interchange between DCCs, if possible. Collada or FBX are much more reliable, and even then there are almost always smaller (and at times bigger) issues. Luckily more and more vendors offer native converted and manually corrected files nowadays for all major DCCs. Blend files seem to become a standard part, which is great since the user can then convert to any exchange file format they need. As for Max: I have had to use it a few times in the past two years again for work. Its GUI feels terribly outdated, and crashed on me multiple times so far, at a rate that I now expect to have it crash at least one time during a work session. No such issues with Blender, C4d, or Houdini* (*which isn't that stable with its new work-in-progress GPU renderer, though...)

  6. I have set up a zoom call for anyone interested in the Cinema 4D Basics Comprehensive Certification for the 15th of March, 12 noon Eastern Time. There were some questions and a few misconceptions I would like to talk about, and reply in real time to attendees. This is going to be a discussion, face to face (or voice to face) and a great opportunity to explain what the Certification is about and listen to comments and suggestions. The current information page is here: https://www.maxon.net/en/certification A short overview video here: and here's the meeting link: Athanasios Pozantzis is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting. 7. Based on your build up and the two runner ups who are EXTREMELY good (Ian Hubert and Clinton Jones), I was a bit let down by your selection of a winner. Now, Polyfjord is also an extremely gifted artist and had you just started with your third post, I would be clapping along with you. But in reality, all three artists (Clinton, Ian and Polyfjord) are equally amazing influencers in the world of 3D. But that build up was just incredible and you really set a high bar of expectation. Honestly, if I ever needed a publicist, I would hire you. So, bravo for that!!! Now, I will admit that I have a bias toward Clinton Jones as he is a C4D user. Second, he really excels at environment creation which is an area of interest to me as well, so his Pwinsher tutorials are immediately applicable to me. I mean this work is just amazing. Plus, he is an ex-Corridor Digital member and I do enjoy their content (I even have one of their T-shirts given to me as a present). And third, they set him on fire.... literally. I mean that is commitment to craft and career. 🙂 Dave

  8. See, this is what I always hear about 3DS Max. It's also one of the main critiques C4D always get's. "Can't do much with it unless you buy plugins". I've had the questionable pleasure of having to work with Max for over a year now, here and there. I hated every single second with it. Many, many things C4D and Blender just do out of the box you need scripts and/or plugins for in 3DS Max. It's also unstable as hell and the entire UI is a giant pile of trash held together with duct tape.
