  1. I watched the movie Free Guy. Seemed similar to movies like Wreck it Ralph, Ready Player One, Tron and Truman Show. Overall amusing. Movie Info: Plot: In the extremely popular video game, Free City, a NPC named Guy learns the true nature of his existence when he meets the girl of his dreams, a human player. This player's interactions with Guy has massive affects on him, the game, and real world as they play it. Genre: Action, Adventure, Comedy, Fantasy, Sci-Fi Trivia: The fictional 'Free City' is based on Liberty City from Grand Theft Auto III (2001) and Grand Theft Auto IV (2008) games. In turn, Liberty City was inspired by the real-life New York. The high-end sports cars, tanks, helicopters, motorcycles, etc., in the various strongholds are all real and had to be carefully protected from typical film crew wear and tear. At the end of filming the helicopter flew away directly from the studio. This movie is heavily inspired by the science fiction novel Simulacron-3 (1964) by Daniel Francis Galouye. In the novel, the main character realizes that he lives in a simulated world inside a computer. A female admin enters the world, and with her help he can save his world from destruction. There have been several adaptations of this novel, a.o. the German 2-part TV-miniseries World on a Wire (1973) by Rainer Werner Fassbinder. Have you noticed C4D in the first scene at the Soonami offices ? Here's some VFX breakdowns and backstage videos And some unexpected C4D/Red Giant related tutorial

  2. The most detailed VFX video of DUNE. Almost 2 hours.

  3. Whatever the merits of the certification, at a 'suggested' cost of £1k for the 'basics' and an additional £2k for the 'trainer' it seems to me that some folks at head office have a seriously over inflated sense of their own self worth.

  4. Space Jam 2 and The Matrix Resurrections were also not taking themselves seriously and they weren't meant to be taken seriously but the audience received it wrong burring their reputation deeper than the Mariana Trench. Even Don't Look Up was not successful. For some reason it's like people get offended for things they shouldn't. It's like they are being in denial when shown the reality through exaggeration lenses, they feel they are being mocked at. I think it's safe to state that a parody will never be as good as a comedy. The only successful parodies I can remember are The Disaster Artist, Kung Pow, Scary Movie (the 1st one), Space Balls and Monty Python, and none of those had a big budget. I'm not sure if it is a parody or a comedy but with so many references it does tip the scale towards parody. It's sad to see so much money thrown to make movies like this. Will children even understand it the way we do ? I don't think so. There is not a single frame in that trailer targeted to an audience below 27. I guess Disney knows too well it's clients. Kids don't pay for the stream, and adults will buy Disney+ more for themselves than for their kids.

  5. Thank you HappyPolygon! Ever since Cinefex went out of business last June, I have suffered a sense of loss. 172 issues and 40 years of commitment will do that to you. This definitely helps. Dave

  6. Newtek used to be really quick to implement some cool new research in Lightwave. But that was 15 years ago.

  7. This depends on how much on the look-out the companies owning the products are and how much they are willing to spend in R&D to implement the tech (hire the authors ? let their developers decipher the papers and write the code from scratch ?) There's also the implementation to the rest of the app headache. Most of these computational methods are like 4D puzzle pieces. You can't just throw the code in your app and expect it to work. There are so many factors that need modifications to make it compatible with your app: The language it was written in External dependences like language specific libraries Reference to other papers which could lead to more code 3rd party technologies like hardware and communication with it and most importantly will it be on par with how the rest of the app handles the data structures and representations ? (voxels for example, C4D can't render voxels, only polygons)

  8. I've changed many of the Cinema specific shortcuts to shortcuts that are faster to hit and easier for me to remember, so I probably wouldn't do well on that part of the test without looking at the list in advance. But for me a person's problem solving skills and especially their troubleshooting skills are important considerations, as so many of the technical aspects of 3D as well as workflow speed require those talents above all else. Someone should make a course and certificate for that. 👨‍🏫
