  5. The ear is a standard example i think from Arnold, it has overhangs. https://docs.arnoldrenderer.com/display/A5AFMUG/Vector+Displacement I actually have no idea what the process would be to bake the displacement map from geometry, that is not my area of expertise.

  6. Very cool share, thank you! I watched this a while back and found it informative. I've also seen some people doing mechanical modeling in the volume builder! Neat stuff. But Adobe's new 3d program in beta looks like it does something similar to this, but REALLY fast. I've also seen people use volume builder for mograph effects. It's just really versatile.

  7. On the gun: the volumetric shape was first modelled from photo reference. The hot areas were illuminated with visible lights(s) inside. For the afterburners: the volume had varying density and noise to show the 'mach discs' - those brighter areas in the efflux. That varying density and noise was all controlled with fields. IIRC I used an emissive material for the illumination. The cloud was just a quick test. Redshift is pretty good and v fast with volumes, but needs some improvement on the technical aspects of light scattering in volumes to make things such as clouds more realistic. They are currently working on it, but It's a major job I believe.

  9. Hello everybody! We’re excited to inform you that for the very first time, U-RENDER will join RTC 2021 - RealTime Conference, the fully virtual world’s premiere event for real-time communities and innovation. This RTC edition will deal with a very exciting topic: The Rise of the Metaverse. Through workshops, panel discussions and open keynotes, you will be able to hear from the leaders who are changing the world in real-time as they share innovations across industries about how they are populating the Metaverse. How can you join us at RTC 2021? For all the event’s duration (2021/12/13-15) U-RENDER will have a virtual booth where we will show our latest demo scenes, but only. On Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at 11 PM (CET), you can have the possibility to follow a live panel discussion about the challenges of small companies and startups in the CG Industry. Our Founder & CTO Martin Weber and our CPO Ralph McEntagart will discuss this topic with Jean-Colas Prunier, Founder & CEO &Product Designer of PocketStudio. What happens if you’re not online during the event? Don’t worry! Our panel discussion, like the other events in the program as well, will be available on demand on the RTC’s website. We are looking forward to welcoming you to our virtual booth and interacting with you during the panel discussion. Registration is open now and free.

  10. Maxon has released Cineware for Unreal, a new version of its free plugin for transferring content between Cinema 4D, its 3D animation and motion graphics software, and Epic Games’ Unreal Engine. The new plugin enables users to import Cinema 4D scenes into UE4 and edit them directly inside the game engine, with any changes made automatically being transferred back from Cinema 4D. The workflow should make it easier to use Unreal Engine as a real-time renderer for content created in Cinema 4D or other applications that natively export files in .c4d format. Edit Cinema 4D content directly inside Unreal Engine for motion graphics or visualization work. Although it was already possible to import Cinema 4D content into Unreal Engine via Epic Games’ own Datasmith toolset, the new Cineware for Unreal plugin streamlines the process significantly. Cineware for Unreal requires a Cinema 4D S24.111 installation for dynamic import. Activation not required. https://www.maxon.net/en/cinema-4d/features/unreal-integration
