The next instalment of the 3D and Motion Show - on Tuesday September 14th - opens with a morning presentation from David McGavran detailing 'Maxon News and Announcements'. Paul Babb normally takes that slot when they're just giving a general Maxon update, and Dave takes it when they're doing a bigger announcement. So you'll almost certainly be getting the details of R25 on that date next month.3 points

I'm sorry, maybe my posting was bit off. I'm actually unhappy with C4D updates and the subscription model. It just reminds me of the Adobe move nearly a decade back. And we all ranted about that year after year. What did Adobe do? Ignore all this and just ramp up the marketing budget. It's not exactly tiring to read about it, it's tiring to contribute to it. In my opinion, the only way to make yourself heard, is by means of money. Voicing an unpleasant opinion and paying the money is fine for the company. In the books the paying customers are the happy ones. As a UI/UX Consultant for a software company, and a small-percentage-shareholder of the same, I attended all critical business meetings. The topic about perpetual vs. subscription, too. It was commonly agreed, that the subscription model brings more money and binds customers way better, while not having any need for ground-breaking updates. The only question left was "How could the company sell this as an advantage to the customer". Maybe you're point is true, too. They shouldn't forget what it's all about. But you still could switch to blender and voice your discomfort about Maxons Moves.3 points

That would follow. My suspicions are that we will be getting another gut punch similar to what happened with R21. In short, no more perpetual licenses will be offered starting with R25. This is purely based on the following: The surprise email that Redshift is now subscription only. The warning that all licenses will be consolidated under the MyMaxon account system with that email The statement in that email that Maxon is moving to subscriptions because it is better for us. The move to 3 months of support only for C4D perpetual licenses. Maxon has been moving to get everyone on subscription relentlessly since R21 and have been growing their account server capability to support that goal. Honestly, I think server development is probably a higher priority to Maxon than C4D development simply because there is more revenue tied to their server capability to control all licenses. I also find it interesting that they announced Redshift subscription only in an email and not via their monthly Motion Show format (well...maybe they did as I don't attend them). Why did they do it before the R25 announcement? Why did they then offer at the same time the ability to re-up your perpetual licenses while still under maintenance? Well, to test user adoption and reaction from those who have perpetual licenses. They also wanted to try out their sales pitch that Redshift subscriptions are actually better for us: the poor dumb perpetual license user who can't figure out if we need the latest and greatest version or not. That whole reasoning was probably part of their plan to cut perpetual license support for C4D to 3 months as well. Well, if you are only going to support bug fixes for 3 months then, yeah...you are right - subscriptions are better for me. This is all groundwork for the big announcement that perpetual license model will be discontinued --- and remember everyone: Maxon is doing this for our own good so you best shut-up and OBEY! The server is ready. The trial balloon with Redshift moving to subscription only has been released. The time is now. Finally, McGavran is probably the worst presenter of C4D features I have ever seen. He shows more passion for product licenses than he does for the product features. Whenever he gets up to announce a new release, I flip to this site. What a pleasure it is to see people who actually have real passion for what they are developing. Dave1 point

I think my previous reply was a bit too extreme towards you too, sorry. And you are right. a paying customer, for the company, it is ultimately, a happy customer. And yes, let's not kid ourselves.. I feel this is a point of no return. But I feel that, differently than Adobe, that has no direct competition to their whole package of softwares (there are some good options, but not industry wide Im afraid)... C4D has Blender, Maya, 3Ds max to compete with.. they are the best at Motion Graphics, but when it comes to 3D, there are options for sure. So.. my hope? Would be.. at least... a decently priced indie license. Something that Autodesk already does with Maya. Everytime I mention how much I pay for Maya here in Brazil, my friends here gets a bit confused..thinking Im pirating the software or something... They cant believe this is what Autodesk is charging for... even with all their limitations for indie license. PS: im switching slowly to Blender and Maya... but yeah.. I wish I was 25 again to get a fresh start with these softwares hehe.1 point

The core argument always cycles back to the MSA and Cineversity, those are the key difference between now and then. There still is a perpetual, there is still the option to keep it current at comparable prices to before. The key difference is that the only way to have Cineversity access is the new subscription since the old MSA was discontinued. The scope of this decision is imo blown vastly out of proportion in some of the postings here. I see a lot of steam being blown off, that is something i can relate to, but i won’t interact with it since there is nothing i can contribute. I’ll gladly try to bring things into focus that sometimes get distorted a bit, and i try to point out when there is often more than one valid point of view, but not much more. I have no fear to agree or disagree with opinions here, there is no reprisal i would have to fear from my employer. As long as i state my personal opinions and not try to talk as a company spokesman, which i certainly am not, all is good. The only thing expected by my employer is that i show professional behavior, which is not much of a stretch for me, and that company internal information stays internal, which, as an IT guy for many decades, is second nature to me.1 point

This scripts allows you to bake multiple objects into Global Space. This can be achieved in multiple ways by using modifiers: 1. Default (no modifier): Creates Nulls copies of the objects in global space and bakes them 2. Shift modifier: Creates Nulls in global space at without baking, this is essentially "Convert to Nulls" 3. CTRL modifier: Creates Nulls in Global Space and bakes them, and constraints the original object to the nulls. 4. Alt modifier: Bakes the same objects in Global Space. You will need to unparent them manually in order to see the correct animation. As soon as I heard about volumetrics changes in 2.93 using Eevee, I wanted to recreate the looks of one of my favourite games for PS4/PC/Switch - "INSIDE" And after 6 hours (and a character I had rigged already in Blender before) I think it got pretty close 🙂 Here is a test, using only eevee, combining the toon look with a more realistic shade for the rest: https://vimeo.com/591316074/2c3f8c0e151 point

I love Redshift; I like the dev-team's transparency and openness. They should have my money -- it's a good product with good support. But -- and this is crucial -- I want to pay on my terms, and I want to be able to access my stuff at all times. An ongoing subscription feels just extortionate. It's so easy to solve everything -- let me rent the software; if it's long enough, let me exit my subscription with a perpetual license (that no longer gets updates). It should be the same for C4D (and Adobe and all the likes). They way it is -- just robbers sitting on my files. The way it coud be: A fair model that respects my investments and honors me as a customer.1 point
